If you're seeing this post, you're part of the Sneak Peek tier! There will be four more strips after this, set in my town and based on the characters for my book. These strips focus on Miranda and her friend (friend?!) Nicole.

I decided to only share these with you guys, because shoving a quiet graphic novel character into a comic strip means she's being introduced a little more... comedically... than she'll be in the actual book. And I'm still working out Procreate, so the coloring is... experimental?? I'm curious what you think! (I think the next ones came out better.)

But also, c), thank you so much for supporting me at this level. :) I hope you enjoy this little strip series! Oh, and for comparison, here are the digital pencils (Procreate) vs. the finished inks (Zebra brush pen):

I just can’t wait for you to get this story out there! It’s like waiting for a baby to be born - hoping it all goes well for the mom and the anticipation!

Eeeee this is so exciting! Also, I just recently started doing all m'pencils in Procreate and inking by hand too - and finding it SO much faster and more enjoyable, howboutchoo?

I was admiring the coloring before I read what you posted about it. It’s a lovely palette, particularly with the inkline color choice! And I’m digging the paper texture on the background. Go, Danielle!

I like it! How are you liking procreate from a comic standpoint? I did your comic class a while back and did the Sweet Bumbling Bearcakes comics, and I had a hard time really getting what I wanted using pencils/markers/pens. I was wondering if maybe I'd have better luck digitally but I haven't made time to sit down and figure out where to go with it yet.

UGH GOD it's so much easier!! My only problem now is that, as much as I LOVE making the finals in ink, they look so similar to the pencils that it seems silly to bother doing "finished inks!" But yeah, either way, it's soooo nice to just be like... "that leg should be 20% bigger, BAM, it's 20% bigger" instead of redrawing the whole thing!

Ooh thanks for all of this, especially for liking the "paper" "texture" in the background, because that's just a fake texture thing! When I start putting these out f'real (I'll be finishing with Photoshop), I wanna superimpose actual watercolor paper textures on each page.

Definitely try it, Sheri! I feel like traditional media only does what you want it to after you've tried it over and over and over until it becomes as familiar to you as your own hand. Unless you're up for trying those tools a ton, digital may bridge the gap for you, if nothing else for the unlimited use of an "undo" button!

that's mostly my thought, a lot of times on my paper comics i might be happy with 3 panels but used the wrong marker or totally schmutzed an inked line or text or whatever. the ease of clean up/fixing mistakes might be less discouraging
