I had this super talented Girl Scout in the comics workshop I taught last weekend, and she showed me a short animation she made (this is for some meme that I don't get because old, but check out the rest of her work, too, I love her characters!).

I asked her what she used to animate it, she told me about FlipaClip, I realized it was free and downloaded it immediately, and in about 24 hours I made this! Pip really does love to eat butterflies, little jerk.

I started off drawing and re-drawing and re-drawing the same pose for Pip for each frame at first, and it wasn't until he sits there blinking & digesting his fluttery meal that I realized you can copy & paste a frame (you can tell I copied & pasted Pip for that second or two, because his body doesn't move at all).

This was the perfect exercise to indulge in during Art Night because it's a lot of repetition, so I think you'll see more of these in the future. :) Let me know if you have any trouble viewing it, I'm new at this!

Gonna have to check out this app for myself! I would love to hear any impressions or tips after you explore it some more

This is AMAZING! I'm going to take a look at this app! Seems interesting! Thanks for the tip and for this lovely animation! ❤

Jamie Noguchi

So it IS true. Pip is what he eats...? (Can you imagine what a flying Pip would be like, though? ... ) -j

I have a feeling I'll be getting to know it much better over the next few weeks!

dcorsetto

Yeah it's really really good for a free app!!

dcorsetto

NO and somehow I forgot that it exists!! Thanks for the link, I'll give it a look so I can feed my new obsession. ;)

dcorsetto

Hahaha Julie that's exactly what the filename is!

dcorsetto

(Oh pft I guess you can read it on the YT page!)

God he'd be able to reach ALL the door locks!!

Hugh Eckert

That's very cool and very funny!

Mike Boas

Very cool! A lot of my animation students like FlipaClip, too. They zoom in and out like crazy to get the details, which I have trouble doing myself. My phone animations tend to be blunt-fingered and gestural.

Terry Peterson

That's very cute! I look forward to seeing more of these.

Sheri Spangenberg

awesome! I'll have to check it out. I used to do quite a bit of animation in Flash, but as flash got degraded, I never learned how to use canvas or any of the other new tools.
