This is Berto. His apartment is real cute and everything he cooks is good.

Fred Baker

That's a seriously ancient apartment.

Welcome to Elephant Town, where we don't use rulers to draw the walls because nothing has been straight since 1892.

Dean Reilly

So what is he cooking? Or will we find out later?

Elly

Looks like spaghetti boilagnese to me.

Meisterj

The boil and simmer are so clever.

Monica Gallagher

I appreciate the one slightly-open cupboard SO MUCH!

Emily P

I can just feel the paint sticking as I try to wrench it all the way open!

Patricia Roy

More importantly : What is he drinking? :P Tell me what you drink and I'll tell you who you are bwahah!

dcorsetto

You guys actually helped me pick it, long long ago. :) You'll find out!

In reality I think ALL of them were hanging slightly open by default! I love how imperfect everything is in this town. :)

Mini-fridge and 2 hotplates. Does he have a sink or does he wash his dishes in his bathroom? What a lovely romantic setting he's putting together. Everything else is so tidy, too.

I'm basing Berto's efficiency on my boyfriend's tiny apartment (mercifully, one of the two rooms is a kitchen - Berto isn't so lucky). Somehow Luke keeps it so tidy and cozy despite the space limitations! They're both good, even-keeled dudes. :)

Built-in cabinets! How I miss them...(also wainscoting. Man, I'm old!)

Mattie

I’m loving the sound effects on the first page! The lettering is *chef’s kiss*

Thanks! I realized too late that a lot of panels in Paul's chapter move too fast, because there's nothing to read. We get a lot of alone time with the characters in this book, so I'll probably be slowing down a lot of the pages with more sound effects from now on. :)

Ripley LaCross

This looks like a Garage-turned-apartment, I dig it!

dcorsetto

Yeah! I don't know what the heck the IRL apartment was before they rented it out! Like, the place where they kept the lawn mower and power tools, maybe?
