Last night my pal Mathew New hosted his first scheduled figure drawing session online and it was a great time! Artist buds Lucy Bellwood, Steph Zuppo and Jared Cullum were all there, and while it wasn't really a social event, I was surprised by how cozy and sweet it felt just to know that my friends were there drawing Mathew along with me.

I've been using a light, scratchy ziptone pen by RetroSupply to lay down the pre-sketch, because it helps me focus on volume rather than line quality.

The poses were 15 minutes, but 10 has always been my favorite cutoff and I know when to stop!

Drawing digitally makes it super easy to use the first finished sketch as a guide to draw a simpler, more cartoony sketch overtop.

Shannon Hagen co-hosted this session and was giving beginner instruction to those who wanted it, narrating her approach to the drawing (you could opt out of it simply by muting the sound and keeping your screen on Mathew's account).

Sounds like they'll be doing this weekly, so if you're interested, keep an eye on the Insta account or sign up for their newsletter to keep track of when the next session is!

I'm so mad at myself. I saw your post yesterday and said "that sounds like a good thing to do this evening!" and then evening rolled around and I totally had nothing going on...and totally forgot about it so just watched BoP and cross stitched. which was fun, but still totally would have drawn instead if I'd remembered.
