Partially true story, back when some friends worked at a hippie restaurant in my hometown. A patron sent back a bowl of hummus because it was giving off "bad vibes." The waiter politely returned the bowl to the kitchen, had his coworkers hurl insults at it, and brought the same bowl back to the patron, who was pleased with his new and improved hummus.

The service industry's a racket, but they sure get some good stories.

(I was gonna add a backstory about Creamy Neil, but there's a chance he'll make an actual cameo later, so I'll leave it 'til then. ;)

**sorry if you got this twice! the first one looked like it didn't go through!

Never worked in food service. But I do have a slightly funny story. Some people like to come out and see the farm before they purchase any products from it. I imagine it's to make sure we don't live on a landfill, or physically torture the animals. Anyway, one lady came out and asked which hog was hers. So I pointed out which one was earmarked for her. She promptly told me it was too happy, and she wanted one that was more sad. I just told her it was the saddest one we had, and that was fine with her. Weird interaction.

$2 is big change! ...if it's in 50-cent pieces, I guess?

Dean Reilly

Haha, instead of big change she got small change.

Captain Awesome

And my wife informs me that we've had people at the farmers market not want any vegetables that have to be "plucked or picked" because they can feel their pain.

Lisa

Berto's about to propose, right? Hence the way he's looking at her when she talks about the fortune teller congratulating her on a big change. Or maybe Meighan is about to, and Berto has guessed it, hence his look. I guess we'll find out! BTW I'm loving how expressive the characters' gestures and faces are. I'm not an artist so I don't have the right vocabulary for it, but it's almost like I can see them moving.

Tudza

Yerba mate, do they serve it in gourds with bombillas?

Drazi

Please have a listen to Carrot Juice is Murder, by The Arrogant Worms. You and your wife might approve.

Gangler

Dishwashing was tough work but I was always glad I didn't have to deal with the customers.

Andy Ihnatko

_So_ many nice, highly-observed details here in the writing and the art.

Ben Hatke

I'm enjoying every bit of this.

MyOtheHedgeFox

Geez-Louise, Dani, this is one of the coziest story archs I’ve seen in a webcomic ever. Thank you so much for planning this so far. =)

dcorsetto

I read up on yerba mate before I had her switch to it, so I'm proud to report that I get your reference!

dcorsetto

If you like cozy, you'll definitely like this book. Well, at least half of it. ;)

Cab

Gwaaah, I love how natural their conversations are. It's so good.

Ruth Merriam

Getting a little post-dinner high and Berto's second guessing what to do next. Yes? No? Edit: I just noticed the filter, so that's obv a cigarette and not a doob. Nevermind. LOL *Everything* about this is so damned perfect. I feel like I'm eavesdropping from a car in the parking lot. You've already made these two come to life and the apartments are really beautifully rendered.

Hugh Eckert

"Creamy Neil"? I'm trying not to imagine many of the potential reasons for that nickname. ;-)

dcorsetto

Somehow, it's both not that, and at the same time it *IS* that. He's a special man.

MyOtheHedgeFox

I liked Girls With Slingshots a lot even though half of it made me feel quite uncomfortable and sad (which was done really well!) – so I’m really optimistic about your work. =)

Lisa

Yes! That was the moment that really made me stop and notice.

Beth A. Kaplan

We once made the mistake of moving into a home that came with a *very* interesting flatmate. She believed if we stayed the rooms she claimed as hers for too long we would suck out all of her positive. Never been so happy to be kicked out of anywhere in my life.

Theadora

I sense a thickening plot! (gotta say, the ciggie-pitching in the last panel is making me twitch. I presume that's on purpose....)
