I've been working with Hiveworks to make a beautiful dedicated website for Elephant Town and I'm getting hyped about it!

Kevin, my designer, has been outrageously personable and thoughtful about the process, letting me nitpick things like "can we lighten the purple color by 3 levels" and other ridiculous shit that resembles my painfully particular coloring process.

I added a bit of pink to the header image, which was originally all monochrome, and it's warmed up the look considerably:

(Though I love that cat, I also changed my Patreon avatar back to my little watercolored face, just to keep things consistent across platforms.)

As much as I liked the whisper-like cloud quality of the original title, Kevin pointed out that colorblind people will see absolutely nothing there if I keep the contrast that low. Things I would've never considered!

It's also nice to have an accent color to pep up the site design a bit. Who knew my childhood nemesis, pink, would be the color I used the most often throughout my various comics' branding.

In order to make the header image at the top span wide enough to have it fade into that dark gradient on either side, I needed to extend what I had originally, which was a bit of a headache since it was drawn in ink on paper. But it's nice to have a final image to use for the future. Here's what the cropped image looks like:

... and the whole entire thing:

(If you're local, some of this will look familiar, but some of it has been fabricated, like the far left house being the end of the block - there are at least one or two more houses before Shoe Lane!)

I had the thought that maybe I should ask Kevin if we can change the title & hover button color to match the chapter you're reading...

... but that might be a bit Extra of me. ;)

Did you notice that the color of the linework changes depending on which character we're visiting? Points if you picked up on that (lookin at you, Lucy B)!

More sneak peeks on the way as we build this thing! Thanks for letting me share my glee with someone in relative secrecy. :)

I'm so glad this is going to be a thing! I've had a harder time following on Patreon with it mixed into the rest of the people I follow, and a dedicated site to read it all together will be awesome. I love the design, and the accent color changing with the chapters would be really neat touch :)

Yeah, Patreon is NOT a good way to archive serialized story posts!! Great for weekly updates and (obviously) funding, terrible as a prime website. I can't wait to have tags and a table of contents for everyone to see. :) Tags will become helpful as we progress, you'll see why. ;)

Danielle. Please be Extra! I work in web design and focus on user experience and accessibility, so I am SO GLAD that those things are being taken into consideration. But back to the Extra bit, I absolutely love details like this in web design and my online comics, and I think it adds a whole lot to the entire picture. It's not Extra: it's Art! This addition would be worth more than the time it would take to implement it. (There might be some accessibility issues with the white on a couple of those colors, but Kevin could help you find a workaround for that, too.) I AM SO EXCITED!!

I second Mr. Hardman's comments above. So looking forward to seeing this more holistically. Also, I didn't actually catch the different line colors per character ([sad face] no points for me!), but I had noticed that something about the palette changed per character arc -- something I really love about the work!

Hehe. :) I'm gonna ask Kevin if it's possible! Thus far I've been kinda blown away by what people are capable of having websites do. My only holdup is branding; I'd like to keep colors consistent throughout my branding of ET, so I'm not sure having a spectrum of not-really-unified colors is the best idea. I thought up the color-changing thing today, so I'm gonna let it simmer in my head for awhile before I ask about the practicality of it. :)

Now I'm thinking about how to get splashes of each color in your branding...

Yay it looks GORGE!! Everyone appreciates your nit-picky sacrifice to the Coloring Gods! :)

THANK YOU *cries* *collects tears to give to the Coloring Gods*

Paul W.

Excellent! And thank you.

Love where this is going! Yay! So excited for you! I mean, I like Patreon in that it comes to my inbox and I don't have to think about it, but it's really a terrible format for a comic... especially if I want to go back and see a previous strip. And that "extra"? OMG yes! That little Easter Egg of color change would be so awesome! YOU are so incredible! I love supporting you!

Cathi Andrews

I hope you decide to go for the "Extra" as I think it would be really cool. Also, though I'm not a web designer, I'd imagine that the changes & challenges you might request are probably way more fun & interesting than the average web build. It looks amazing! Edit to add that I'm wondering how you did the additional drawing, since you commented on it being a bit of a pain.
