Lil Bonus Forrest Post (Patreon)

Here's a little extra Forrest for my Whole Elephant patrons. :)

Some sketches of my bottom-heavy longkitten from earlier today:

My favorite thing about Forrest (except when I'm trying to sleep) is the little melodic chirruping noises that he makes. He sounds like a shy little cricket, and when I say "cricket" to him, it's the only word he responds to. It seemed like the PERFECT name for him. Too perfect. I wondered why it seemed SO perfect for him.

After two days of calling him Cricket, I remembered:

Not only did Yuko and Ananth (of Johnny Wander fame) have a cat named Cricket, Cricket looked almost exactly like Forrest. NO WONDER IT SEEMED SO PERFECT.

So, I dunno... the name Forrest is growing on me, but I still might call him Cricket at home. Maybe he'll become like one of those guys whose name is William but everyone in his town calls him Fishtank. (This might be a West Virginia thing.)

Before I forget, here are the brushes I picked up yesterday that I used to draw & shade that post I made earlier!

Liner Toothy Black for all the black linework, Watercolor Flow Flat for the shading, and Fountain Pen Toothy for Forrest's name. Oh, and I plopped the hot press paper texture in the background - that came with the watercolor pack, too. 

I picked these up after I saw Monica Gallagher's new The Biggest Bigfoot comic, because the "watercolor" she's using on it is so convincing I couldn't tell if she was drawing digitally or traditionally. I asked her what brushes she used and bought them immediately.

By the way, friendship aside, Monica's one of my top 5 favorite Patreon creators.
