Sleep is still my favorite important thing.

I got my first shot yesterday! This is my way of telling you that. (Tbh my arm only hurt when I woke up and tried to pet the cats, which is my second favorite important thing.)

That's why I did my left. I can sleep on my right for a day or so. Congrats on getting your first shot!

Cindy Haughey

Dang, I didn’t even consider my sleeping arm! I sleep on all the sides, though, so maybe it wouldn’t have mattered. I’ll find out, I guess. Had my shot today! 🎉

Miranda Schubert

I did my left because I'm right-handed, but do mostly sleep on my left. Definitely made sleeping more awkward.

Larry Haller

I got my first shot in my left arm, and my second one in my right. Keeps my body guessing!

Betsy

Congrats on getting your first shot! I got mine in my left but I sleep on either side.

Melody

I got my first shot today too! I did left because my left shoulder has already been hurting a bit this week so if it hurts a little more I probably won't notice 🤣 I've gotten into a round of conversations about changes to menstrual cycles post-vax, (trials found none but many people who bleed are reporting things). I'm supposed to get my period Sunday, so I'm interested to see where that goes.

Ugh, I'm a rolling side sleeper and the first couple nights were rough from the pain. I do my left, because I usually get pain, swelling, and weakness for two or three weeks with the tetanus shot. This one was just pain and weakness for two days, then poof! It was gone! Getting my second next week... 🎉 -j

Cat

Huh, really? That's good to know. I wonder if that's throwing me off, too.

Emily Wolf

I always get shots in my dominant-hand arm, since I've heard the more you move your arm around, the sooner the soreness goes away

dcorsetto

Oh, did you get yours too? (I'm not sure which throwing-off-thing you're referencing!)

dcorsetto

I didn't know that, interesting!

Melody

Yeah! A friend of mine is collecting survey data to do a study for more info (like, GDPR compliant and IRB approved official study stuff, it's impressive). Went public this morning and they have over a thousand responses already. I gotta get my data point in!

TinaFoo Spencer

Non-dominant hand... worst thing is, um, bathroom time if your arm is too sore to wipe... But, yes, don't tense when you get it and the more you move it, the better off you'll be no matter which arm. Yay you!

Cat

I *did* get mine, got my second one in March and am fully vaccinated per the CDC requirements. I meant my flow timing had been thrown off last go-round.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I had to get a blood draw, and they picked my left arm when I offered their choice of both... then I had to get a second draw a few days later, and where before they would switch to my right arm to balance it out, this time they just did a second draw from my left =p arm hurty for twice as long, yay

Crushbot (security*)

I got my second jab last Thursday, and it put me on my ass all day Friday and part of Saturday. Still totally worth it!

Joanna

I've also heard that you can develop lumps in the breast tissue for a while after it (it's the lymph nodes) so you shouldn't have a mammogram for like 6 weeks after the second shot.

Gregory Cotton

I hardly noticed the first Moderna shot, the 2nd one put me down for a day.

Jessica Grady

I had the J&J in my right arm and it was sore for a few days after. I also had mild early-flu-like symptoms but fortunately no real fever.

Kabluey Crystal

As a leftie in a right-handed world who used to share desks with right-handed people (mouse on the right side), I got used to using both hands a lot so I figured it didn't matter which arm I got the shot in. I should have thought about the sleep thing though because I do sleep on my right side. My arm stopped hurting after after a day or so and a lot of stretching.

Sheri Spangenberg

Glad you got yours! I have my appointment for next saturday, I'll have to think about haha. I'll probably go with left because I'm right handed and I roll like a tumbleweed when I sleep.

dcorsetto

I'm always incredulous when I see someone casually switching hands on something, like most of you lefties have learned to do. My left hand is good for opening doors and holding wine bottles and that's about it!!

Pete Jordan

Asked me which arm I wrote with, and did the other. Not that I had any noticeable arm pain after anyhow (Pfizer) 🙂

dcorsetto

OOH gotchya, Melody's comment! Yeah, that's super wild. (I'm so glad you're all juiced up! So is Luke. Have you been back to teaching in person?) (PS Patreon is a weird place to ask you this so feel free to text me if logging in here is awkward. ;) Miss ya!)

Kabluey Crystal

I had to adapt because of shared workspaces. After years of sharing with right-handed folk, I 100% cannot use a mouse with my left hand. When I have had to sit at another left handed person's desk, I don't know how to function.

Got my 2nd Moderna jab on Tuesday and while yesterday was pretty damn rough, I'm starting to feel a bit better today. Oddly, the first jab incapacitated my arm for nearly 2 days. This time, my arm is a little sore but I can move it. It's the rest of my body that's gone tits up.

Terry Peterson

I chose my non-dominant arm, and was happy i did.

Erik Hawkinson

I'm left-handed so I always get my shots in my right arm. I got both Pfizer shots in that arm. While I usually sleep on my right arm, I can sleep well enough on my back or left arm. The second shot took me out for a couple of days, starting about 10 hours after. My shot was at 7am on a Monday, I didn't start feeling better until Wednesday morning and was still dragging through Thursday.

NJGR

I always just do arm exercises/stretches every hour or two after I get it for a few days, but it never helps the pain and weakness from other vaccinations no matter which arm. This one was so mild, though!

Wild Card

I flip back and forth between left and right. First shot I got in the right. But as I am right handed and the second shot is more intense after effects, I will get it in the left for the second one. I just need to move my water bottle to the other side of the bed for sipping on at night.

My right hand is my dominant, and I've been sleeping on my right for a while now because this stupid helix piercing on my left keeps making me think it's healed, then I'll make the mistake of sleeping on it, and then ug, new crusties >.< Got my first Pfiser shot in my left, and it was honestly not as bad as the flu shot was. My second in coming up in a couple weeks. We''ll see how that goes.
