More people probably means more brunch foods, shush and enjoy it Meighan.

*updated to include some missing accent marks and to clarify Meighan's silent "what the heck are they saying" glance to Berto!

HUGE thanks to Kier for translation help!! (Aka Kier did all of it, unless there are mistakes, mistakes are mine.) And thanks to my $3 patrons for helping me pick a name for Berto's family at the last minute! I agree with yer choice. :)

Why is the woman in pg5 panel 3 surprised that the ring is on Meighan's left hand?

reportt

Maybe Berto's family's culture generally has the ring on the right hand?

fudo

I think it's because in their culture you only wear your wedding ring on that finger. She's saying "¿Ya estan...", i.e., "Are they already..." (married)

I'm surprised to see no accents on any of the words. But of course I only have taken formal classes and I do know that when many Spanish speakers type informally (say, on Facebook) they don't bother with them.

Ruth Merriam

I think they already love her. Perhaps Berto has been talking her up a bit?

dcorsetto

Haha ACTUALLY I think I missed a few and I'm glad you pointed this out!!!

C.H.

Now that I look over all the pages I do see that you included them on some! Lol. My inexpert eyes see estan, aqui, and asi.

dcorsetto

Inexpert my ass! I caught así & aquí, but I missed están! Nice job, and thank you!

And then Berto's Mama replies "No, no, this is how they do it here."

Sara Testarossa

¡Que reunión tan bonita! I love the warmth from Berto's mom and excitement from the family as a whole <3

Sara Testarossa

I like this detail so much for some reason!

Oh, as charming as "Charming Jack" MacCharm, ten-time winner of Charmington's "Most Charming" competition. I had a reflexive social cringe at the "Call me 'Mama'" line. Knowing that I was raised in a culture where the only person other than your mother whom you call "Mom" is maybe your second-grade teacher, by accident. And even there, if it happens more than once then somehow you're the only kid who doesn't get a meatball on Spaghetti Night...

Theadora

Interesting! For me, "mom" & "mother" would only be the maternal figure closest to me, but I could use variations in other "languages" for other people without too much trouble. Of course, everyone is different.
