This whole past week was overloaded with meetings and caricature gigs and errands and cleaning, but this page is the real reason Elephant Town won't be up until (if I'm lucky) tomorrow night!

Getting the authentic Peruvian food right was one thing (anticucho, papa a la huancaína, and ceviche), but that first panel was tricky! Anytime you see a busy background - especially a hint of ceiling or floor - you can be sure I took extra time on it.

Oh and the cake... Luke says I could've probably baked a cake and decorated it in icing faster than it took me to figure out how to place a cursive font in a circle like this to create a reference image so I'd get the text right:

I also would have HAD CAKE afterwards. Oh well, it's done and I'll never use that ridiculous Photoshop workaround again! I'll just bake myself a delicious cake next time.

(I speak as someone who bought a birthday cake from the bakery and decorated it "for a funny photo celebrating the 300th episode of one of my podcasts" and then oh jeez now here's a delicious yellow cake with thick buttery icing left over whatever shall i do with it)

This reminds me of Los Bros Hernandez at their best. Love this.

You shall first eat it and then write it off on your taxes. u_u

Your dedication and attention to detail are part of why I so deeply admire your work and consider you one of the Great Artists at work today. It's such a privilege to get a glimpse into your process.
