I drew this last night and found these this morning:

I was ready to leave these toilet paper roll snow peas for dead a month ago, but figured it wouldn't be any trouble to just keep watering them, just in case.

The jalepeño seedling on the right below was the only one that grew out of the seeds I sowed in March. I did NOT expect more to start growing two months later!

I read that peppers are slow growers, but damn!

Bonus: future raspberries...

... and ladybug larvae turning into proper ladybugs:

This has been your Danielle's Garden of Garbage update, stay tuned for more riveting footage of the literal equivalent of watching grass grow.

Green babies! I love these garden updates.

You don't say where your seeds were located, but it's possible it finally got warm enough for them to get the "grow" signal.

I love these! I keep sharing them with my 30+ friends who are slowly realising that gardening is inevitable. Even if all you have is a sunny windowsill!

TP roll seed starters. How clever!

Congratulations, it's a legume! I wanted to tell you that the "ladybug" larvae may actually be that of the invasive Asian Lady Beetle. They do eat aphids but can become pests in large numbers in the autumn and winter. They also bite and secrete a foul-smelling orange liquid. Consider talking with local gardeners/horticulturists/arborists on the best ways to control them for your location. :(

Yay, excellent! I'm loving all the posts about the garden. I planted kale seeds at the weekend and they're actually sprouting already, wtf, where is their chill?!

dcorsetto

I thought that, too, but they've been sitting out in direct sun for a couple of weeks now, and it's been horrendously hot! Oddly, yesterday was a 30 degree drop from Sunday. Plants!! They do what they want!!

dcorsetto

Ahaha that's relieving to hear!! It seems like a LOT of 30+ pals are catching the bug. :)

dcorsetto

Apparently they need a LOT more water than the plastic planters! But, well, I'm learning. ;)

dcorsetto

Whoa! That's news, I'll ID them when they start having faces. Thanks!

Christina

I SO love seeing the garden updates!

Amy Crook

I love the garden updates -- I can't grow plants for shit myself, so it's amazing to watch yours (and not have to do any of the work).

Meisterj

I'm glad your sprouts are showing up Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️

"stay tuned for more riveting footage of the literal equivalent of watching grass grow" I laughed so hard! I've been enjoying your posts- I am also trying to garden, and it's going like crap, so this is good for me too!

Snow peas. My folks managed to grow a ton of these one year and I pretty much ate all of them. Dump some out of the bag in the freezer, pan fry, eat. Eat something with them? Not necessary.

dcorsetto

Yeah I am SUPER looking forward to eating a ton of snow peas this year!! And I'm thrilled that the ones I planted in March that never sprouted... are somehow... starting now... ? Plants are ALIENS.

NJGR

And the Asian Lady Beetles can be harmful to pets if you have a pet that eats bugs. 😕 We get them inside every fall and they are a freaking nuisance.

look at me i’m stephy dee

There’s nothing as thrilling as seeing those first little seedlings sprout. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first garden of 100th! There’s this quote from horticulturist David Hobson that everyone who’s ever grown a plant can relate to “I grow plants for many reasons: to please my eye or to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience, for novelty or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy in seeing them grow.”
