I promised you a lil comic about Ollie's new form! Here it is:

I am obligated to share proof of our beloved jester:

So far, I think it's worked! I've seen zero birds! But most importantly, he finally presents as his true self, Ollie the Clown. (In case you're interested, the brand is BirdsBeSafe.)

In other news, we've been eating extremely long green beans from the garden:

... and by we, I mean myself, but also these two beauties:

Lucy Bellwood and Erika Moen are staying here for almost two weeks and I'm over the moon. They're in my home and they feel like home to me, so I'm feeling double at-home right now. <3

It's tempting for three cartoonists who use & love Patreon to share eeeeeverything we do together with patrons, but I hope you'll forgive us if we're relatively absent online in favor of being on REAL vacation and staying present with each other, and off our phones. (Okay, I'm not actually on vacation - I'm still updating Monday - but these two are, and I'm pretending I am in between work!)

That said, Erika and Lucy joined me for figure drawing on Wednesday (which I'll post for my $5 patrons shortly), and I'll let you know if they share theirs so you can check out how different all our styles are. :)

(EDIT: As if the clock tower rang Patreon Update Time, Lucy posted her figure drawings like two minutes after I posted this! Enjoy!)

And as a little bonus, attached you'll find Pip taste-testing our town fool, who I imagine tastes exactly like rainbow sherbet.

(Additional edit: Lucy has confirmed that, prior to meeting Ollie, she may not have believed that he SPROINGs the way I drew him SPROINGing in this comic, but, she's seen it, and has validated my representation of said SPROING.)

Hey Danielle, our little cat almost killed a bird today. I remembered this collar story. After... Wow! 4 years, does Ollie still wear it and do you think it's efficient?

dcorsetto

WHOA, way to hunt down (no pun intended) this post!! YES! I still put the collar on him every time he goes out (with the exception this time of year - I let him take short trips out at night neck-nude). It still works! There was a short spell of time when JUST the collar wasn't enough - he nabbed a few young birds - so I put the bells back on it. But yeah, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! https://www.birdsbesafe.com And if you're handy with a needle, you can make a pattern from one of these and make your own so you don't have to keep shelling out $15 when your kitty inevitably loses one!

Thomas Blanc

Thank you Danielle! I'll order one. Do you please have the pattern, or a link to it so I can sew a spare one?

dcorsetto

I made my own pattern (it's easy!), it's basically just a tube! When you get the collar, measure it before you use it and you can make a copy easily, if you're familiar with sewing (you can even hand-sew for this). Just leave like 1/4-1/2" extra to give yourself space to sew, hem both ends of the tube before you close it up on the long end. It'd probably be easier to talk to someone you know (if you know someone who sews) in person to show you how to do it. Good luck!

Cartoonist party times!!!!!! And kitties!!!!

Dan Berry

Aw heck yeah. Jealous!

Deven

So jealous that you get to know and hang with such cool people. Love that collar though. Hilarious.

dcorsetto

Just hop a plane and come out, apparently it's super easy!!

Meisterj

Lol that collar

Nancie

Ollie is such an adorable derp! And I love the colorful CRASH in the last panel.

Dean Reilly

How does the collar stop him from catching birds? Is there a bell in it?

Julie Howard

I would think Pip would be the mighty hunter type! Ollie is adorable! How does the collar work?

kaitou

The birds can see the bright colors a lot easier and can fly away. (See the FAQ on the BirdsBeSafe site.)

Jessica Bernard

It's a visual alert to the birds, instead of a sonic one via a bell.

Dan Berry

NUDES?! I love drawing nudes! *googles “how to plane ticket”*

What a great photo of the three of you! You all look so happy!! I'm so glad you are able to have visitors now ❤ I don't know why but I also get a huge thrill when i find out that artists I admire know eachother irl. (And hope for myself that if I can ever break into comics/illustration semi-professionally, I won't have to be All Alone to do it 😂) . On a similar note, I just found out you know Kelsey Wailes, who I also hugely admire!! Funny where chats about googly-eyes on plants can end up! 🤣🌵

Melody

Oh gosh, this makes me so happy. I know Erika has had an especially rough couple of years, so I'm DOUBLY glad to see her taking a long vacation and being with good people <3 Make sure to give each other ALL the hugs, okay? And several more, from us.

dcorsetto

Pip would LOVE to be the mighty hunter - he looks like one!! But his beautiful neutered-male-ponch keeps him from running fast enough to successfully catch anything. ;)

dcorsetto

Hey M Aidan! (I'm not sure what you go by, apologies!) YESSSS having these two (whose work I also admire!) in my life is one of the best things that's come out of the Internet in my life. :) And you most certainly would not go it alone! Making comics and sharing them is like... a beacon for your people. Your people will find you, I promise. :) And yeah! I don't know Kelsey super well but I'm very fond of her! And happy that she's one more local-ish cartoonist to me. :)

dcorsetto

RIGHT?? Erika's deserved this long vacation forEVER. I just read a bit of this out loud for her so she knows she's being sent love from even more people than the two of us. :) Thanks Melody! <3

Melody

Thank you, because I love her so damn much. (I love you so damn much too, I just especially want her to hear it)

dcorsetto

Erika: "!!! Thanks, Melody!!" You're right, she does need to hear it. :)

I got those collars for my boys a couple months ago and they are doing the trick. 0% birds murdered so far. Both of them lost their collars on the first day because they had the breakaway ones so I had to re-buy and get them stretchy clasp collars. Grayson managed to get his leg caught in it one day but no harm done.

Cathi Andrews

That is a stunning photo of the 3 of you and makes me feel warm and happy just looking at the 3 of you together. I hope you all are/were able to build a beautiful little storehouse of happy memories and feelings to look back on.

dcorsetto

Ollie slipped his a few days after I took this, too! The next rainbow collar I get for him, I'm just going to make a quick pattern out of it and make my own, because I anticipate he'll slip out of several before I find a collar that fits better underneath. Glad it's working for your boys! (And that your boys are both back home now; I remember one was out for awhile!)
