Y’know, there aren’t even THAT many backgrounds on this next Elephant Town update, but I’ve been looking for any excuse to avoid drawing them this week, even though I really like what they contain.

So I fucked off today and sketched an updated self portrait, after finishing the copy of the Dirty Diamonds anthology I bought from Anna Sellheim, because I perused the artist bios at the end and thought to myself “I don’t know what image I’d have used if I was part of this anthology.” So I drew one.

It’s amazing how empowering it is to draw your mouth creases, brow furrows, threadbare favorite shirt, bedhead, and scrappy stray cat with his clipped ear and leftover scarring from an eye infection. I hope my generation paves the way for embracing every sign of age and every smile and story we wear on our bodies.

I really love this! The smirky zen sort of expression is great. It's been pretty nice putting my own mouth creases and weird chin in my self-portrait this year! It helps that I have sarcastic eyebrows, heh.

Beautifully said. I love your attitude and I love your art.

Lovely! Author photo and artist's statement all in one. (And: nice to see the young, freewheeling Pip again. This is him before he assumed the responsibilities and burdens of the DanielleCo Chief of Feline Operations title.)

I love the texture of the colors!!

I like to say I've leveled up when i get to a new birthday

This feels so damned peaceful. I can almost hear him purring as you're taking a moment for yourself.

MaxU watercolor brushes! That ol' Gallagher got me into 'em. :)

Oh this is him on the job! It's a tougher job than it looks, though, and I think he'd appreciate knowing that you recognize that. He sits in my lap to keep me from getting up and leaving the drawing board. He has gotten VERY HEAVY in order to maximize his effect on my lap.

Hah! Sarcastic eyebrows are the best. :)

Love the statement about aging. Also love your "I'm fucking off" smirk. ;-)

I am trying to make peace with my changing body as I come into my early 30s (plus weight gain from COVID downtime), and seeing artists embrace their own changes is really empowering ❤️❤️ thank you!
