Sunday's a work day for me, so it feels like I'm playing hooky if I do any fun stuff.

But I heard live music down the alley, coming from the backyard of the Meck, and I couldn't control myself. I had to go down.

I figured it was okay as long as I drew in my sketchbook. (There are a lot of good arguments for not making your hobby your job, but this is an excellent counterpoint.)

I started off drawing the band, but the guitarist closest to me (the first one I needed to draw before I drew the other two) left halfway through the song and never came back! So I focused on the surroundings.

And then the band left entirely and I still had half a drink left (I promised myself only ONE drink, but I sipped it slowly). So I drew the beloved wonky-ass glassed-in back half of the Meck.

I've attached a little video so you can get a feel for why I love this town and that beer garden so, so much.

"But I heard live music down the alley, coming from the backyard of the Meck..." As I read this, I suddenly heard Rod Stewart's voice in my head: 🎶 Bring over some of your old Motown records We'll put the speakers in the window and we'll go On the roof to listen to the Miracles Echo through the alley down below... 🎶

I visited Shepherdstown a bunch before I knew GWS and you were there, but I never knew about the Meck; my attention tended to be drawn by the Blue Moon. I feel like my wife and I need to take a day trip there just to see the town from your perspective!

I am the opposite of mad that this earworm is now my Monday soundtrack. :)

Ahh no trip to Shepherdstown is complete without a Meck visit! As I recall, the backyard was a little overgrown and not as charming as it is now, until about 5+ years ago. They built bench seating in a little nook at the back of the yard, strung lights, and added a bit more furniture since then. You definitely need to come back and give it a look! (And the Blue Moon really upped their outdoor eating experience, too!)
