I've been painting every session since we got back into the habit of our Wednesday practice, but tonight we had a dynamic model for short poses, and I wanted to get GESTURAL.

So I brought colored pencils and did a lot of hand-sharpening. Five minute poses to start!

Followed by ten minutes...

And twenties the rest of the night.

^ felt real good about that one.

She brought her 4-month-old puppy, who was WAY cuter than this impression I sketched of him.

Zig Clean Color brush pens (the grey on this last one) only allow you to do short little strokes before they get streaky, but I like how this caused me to use a more active, quietly buzzing pattern for shading this last one.

Everyone has other obligations next week, so we won't be meeting again until after SPX in a week and a half. You know I'll be jonesing hard for it.

By the way! If you're going to SPX, sadly my and Babs' figure drawing workshop is completely full and they aren't taking more signups! If I hear of any cancellations/openings, I'll let y'all know. Did anyone here get in? It'd be pretty rad to meet you. :)

SO BUMMED to miss you at SPX this year, but I'll be on my way back from OBX, stopping at the Maritime Museum in Newport News -- a childhood dream to see (what's left of) the USS Monitor there! I hope you and your fellow figger drawers have an absolute blast! And I like that "active, quietly buzzing pattern," too. ❤️

Aawww how cool you're fulfilling that dream!! Have a wonderful (<-- literally, fulla wonder) time, David!
