At SPX last weekend, whenever a GWS reader came up and asked about Elephant Town, I'd describe Kris as "basically Hazel." I really don't want to make a comic without a Hazel.

If you were there and stopped by, THANK YOU!! It was so nice (and surreal!) to hear people talk about Elephant Town, this project I haven't talked about IRL at a convention until now. :)

And if you joined BECAUSE of SPX, welcome, and I hope you like it! The first 12 chapters are up on the main Elephant Town website, and the pages for chapter 13 are right here:

pages 1 & 2

pages 3 & 4

pages 5 & 6

Ash

Am I the only one who is mad when the POV characters don’t like each other?

Ash

Also Kris I will give you more rum.

Laura J Testa-Reyes

Wow, all that only happened in 45-50 minutes? Seems longer. Hope the students enjoy drunken yoga.

Tim Pendergast

The eternal question: Where can I get more booze in the middle of the afternoon?

Dean Reilly

That 'Kids' on the second page is cracking me up. Kris, you are literally a baby.

Tudza

Rum they told me, buy rum rum rum rum, go out and buy me some, buy rum rum rum rum

Drazi

Who says they don't? Also, yes. We are spoiled when it comes to ships and comics, aren't we?

Drazi

Maybe they will learn what to do with boobs.

Ash

I mean they’re talking shit on Miranda who I will fight to protect

"...and now into...I thin y'allre ready fer a NEW yoga posish an itscalled SPLOOTING SQUIRREL. Y'just lay on th' mat competely flat, like THIS...then be reallllllll still and quiet-like an' focus on right focus on breathing AND not frowinup...everybod nowwwwwSPLOOThahahaha...no sersly shhhhhhhhzzzZZZZzzzz..."

I just re-read the whole story from the beginning, for the first time. It was my first taste of how ET reads as a graphic novel and now I'm even more impressed with it! It really hangs together well and all of the threads that ALMOST intertwine are a big hit. I love how the cat "auditioned" and rejected everybody else in the cast before finding Miranda. (And: $200 deposit?! UH-oh...) It's very clear that you're building up to things & I can't wait. "Why did I choose to read it from the beginning tonight?" Because I couldn't resist looking for that birdhouse. :)

dcorsetto

Ahaha you will find that birdhouse eventually!! I love that you went looking for it. It's a delicious treat for me to hear that you went back and put some of the pieces together. This is going to be one of those books that rewards a re-read, for sure. :)

Andy Ihnatko

I think it'll be interesting to compare the experiences of the people on Patreon who got a few pages of the story every week, versus the people who read it a chapter at a time on elephant.town every month or two, versus the people who read the completed story all in one sitting as a graphic novel. There are definitely connections and threads and foreshadowings that passed me right by until I read everything at once. (I've always been surprised by how many people think "The Watchmen"'s ending was a huge letdown. I imagine that most of those folks read it in its original monthly -- ultimately monthly and very late -- installments. Whereas I read it as a trade paperback, all in one go, and the ending makes perfect sense and is a natural payoff.)

dcorsetto

Ooh that's interesting about Watchmen! Yeah, I'm interested to see the differences between consumption styles of Elephant Town, too. :)

Jaeger

It was so great getting to talk with you at SPX, and seeing the original inks in person was such a treat! This is such a fun story with really great emotional beats :)

dcorsetto

I'm so glad you have a unique name so I can remember who you are!! Likewise, thank you for coming over and introducing yourself (and your cat, digitally)!!

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Legit was gonna point at Paul and shout "MATTHEW" but the person in front of me asking for a kitty sketch made me forget and also ask for a kitty sketch =D

Tim Pendergast

Someday I will learn what to do with boobs. So far they are lost on me.

Ursus Ridens

"...rewards a re-read" is why I'm going to buy the book. (And anyway, though I'm sure I'll re-read the work online, the format doesn't fit my screen well, so I'm obviously going to have to get the book.)

dcorsetto

Aahahaha! I'm glad you told me this, though!

Ursus Ridens

I worry about that "Where can I get more rum?". Let Kris not be a somewhat more zaftig Hazel. But we'll see. What Danielle says, goes, hereabouts.

Joshua Kronengold

If it's good rum, it's always getting a bit more (unless you're drunk, at least, at which point you can no longer taste the diffeence).
