I can't believe it, I finished a drawing early enough that I was able to render the fabric she was sitting on!

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Five-minute warmups!

I really liked the warmup sketch I did of her final pose...

(even though her left arm is way too small!), but I didn't quite capture that relaxed angle of the composition in the final painting.

But! Because she was facing away (she knows suck at drawing backs!), I spent all the time I would've spent on her face rendering fabric instead. Yet another thing I'm generally not good at! I appreciated her giving me the challenge. >:)

I took a few process photos:

The process I was trying this time was to lay in a bunch of vivid colors in the shadowed areas where I saw slight changes in warmth and coolness, and then paint over them with a wash of dark purple.

I think it worked pretty well; those greens and oranges still pop through!

But I think my biggest accomplishment was knowing when to stop and just draw the fabric around her. And the fabric looks like fabric, which is all I hoped for.

Tune in next week when I finish so early I get to draw the model's clothes and phone hanging out in a cute basket just offscreen!

Drawing her cloths and cell phone? I dunno, that seams a bit personal. ;-) Seriously, nice fabric. Oddly enough Jeph Jacques had a fabric drape breakthrough this past week as well. Is this a "Secret Theme" week I discovered??? What do I win?

Nice drape, and as always some excellent knee bones. The cooler shadows warmed up with purple came out great, too!

Warm up has a 3 graces vibe!
