I went to the party!! It was in...

I saw THREE horse-and-buggies! I had no idea they lived in Amish country.

My neck is back to normal now, but I want to avoid sneezing it out of commission again, so:

Sorry in advance if I'm ever near you during allergy season.

All of my medical appointments are falling into place! Including...

They have HAND HOLDS on the sides, so you know exactly how the robot prefers to be hugged.

Everyone I'd asked before my first mammogram was weirdly cryptic about the whole thing. They all pretty much said "it doesn't HURT, but it's not FUN." So I went in TERRIFIED that my family jewels were gonna be squished between two metal plates (???!? I clearly didn't think about how Xrays work).

So, not to downplay how awkward the actual procedure is, but the two times I've gone, it HAS been fun. Gina was my tech both times and we talked the whole time about my weird career and how her son works for the stop-motion animation company LAIKA. If you're in the DC metro area or places north of DC, I highly recommend Capital Women's Care* - their mammography lab feels more like a spa. They give you a heated robe for crying out loud.

*including their OB/GYN section - Dr. Andrew Oh has been my doc there forever, and he's so beloved that several of my friends have made him their doctor, too. I almost had him give me a quote for the back of the GWS compendium, I like him that much!

If my house is clean, you know I gotta be drawing a car.

IRL, I stopped at "Deep clean the kitchen" and I did, begrudgingly, keep the car in.

I'll be (mercifully) masked for SPX this weekend! Come find me at table K13, alongside Monica Gallagher and Jamie Noguchi! On my other side will be Babs New(d), our model for the figure drawing workshop I'll be hosting on Saturday (which, regretfully, hit capacity weeks ago; sorry if you didn't make it in!). I don't think my Yoga Cat stickers will be here in time, but I'll have GWS compendiums and... other... things.

Can you tell I still haven't sussed out what the "things" will be yet? Wish me luck!!

Well, I will know who you are! They moved Baltimore Comic-Con to this weekend, so of course I chose the cool show. 😀

NJGR

I'm telling everyone about my amazing mammogram experience! It's similar to yours, because the clinic only deals with breasts. All imaging reports were given to me that day within a half hour, and I was able to get follow-up imaging (ultrasound and another mammogram on the left) in the same appointment, no time to worry about results. This is the way it should be for EVERY person!

dcorsetto

I SAW THAT!! What an unfortunate scheduling! At least you chose wisely. ;) See ya there!

Monica Gallagher

I used to love Capital Women's Care! But man, I fucking hate mammograms - just a big rib-scraping machine. >:( I'm so glad you had a good experience!

Monica Gallagher

I just heard they were BOTH this weekend, I was so confused! Glad you made the COOL CHOICE ;)

dcorsetto

Aw what, you went there?! Damn, we need to get you a Gina - idk what magic she performed but as a fellow small-boob-big-rib-cage, I feel like she'd do you right!!

Monica Gallagher

I'm due for one (UGH) so I'll just tell them "Get me a Gina, STAT!"

David Neale-Lorello

So excited for SPX! I haven't been since, like, '17, I think. Hope to see you there, although I won't get there until probably 12:30pm at the earliest and I think you have a 2pm workshop? Finger's crossed...

dcorsetto

I'll be scuttling my butt right back to my table immediately afterwards (so 3:15ish with the walk and a bathroom break?) - I'll see ya there!!

I mean, there are a lot of people I love who will be at BCC (Kata!), but the vibes at SPX are just the best. Every year I see a new crop of young first-timers walking around wide-eyed realizing that they just found their people, and it brings a tear to my eye. (I guess I like all the old-timers a little too.)

Sarah Ewing

CWC IS the best! I’ve been with them for years and love everyone I’ve seen (my regular OBGYN wasn’t on duty when my kid was born, so I had another who I loved just as much)!

Boum

Have a good time at SPX! My publisher is going to be there this year so I'm hoping they come back next year with me (and my English book!!) in tow. Also gosh I love your comics, Danielle. The car one made me chuckle out loud.

Deb with the purple bike

I just had my first mammogram last week and it was very...industrial. Maybe if I think "just hug the robot" next time it'll feel more tolerable?

Meisterj

See you soon 😃 I need to become a better adult and see doctors for things. I'm pretty okay addressing my auto immune thing but I never want to see other doctors for anything else.

dcorsetto

Ahh how cool that you go there, too!!

dcorsetto

AAHHH I hope you come back down for it!! ENGLISSSHH BOOOOK!! Hehe thank you, darlin (ps fuck drawing cars) <3

dcorsetto

Just think about how unloved that robot is. It's not bad, it was just drawn (up) that way.

dcorsetto

Hey, fair, same! The only thing that got me off my ass this time was one big lump sum payment, and knowing how many of the *covered* screenings would just go to waste if I didn't get them before the end of the year (mammogram, most of the PCP visit, etc). If I feel like I'm losing money, I'll go! ;) See you soon, J!

Akire Bubar

I wish I was going! *Sigh*. Hopefully next year. Have a blast, it's gonna be great!

Deb with the purple bike

Now I am dreaming up product designs for a mammogram machine that is actually huggable...friendly robot vibes with some fuzzy arms to hug you back!

Naufragous Kat

I can’t even explain how hard I feel that face-picking thing right now. I have a maybe-subdermal-cyst along my jawline right now. I only just determined it actually feels like a Thing and not an “I thwacked myself in the face and don’t remember it” knot. Anyway, I cannot stop fucking with it. If it doesn’t disappear on its own in the coming days I guess I’ll have to make an appointment with a weird-lumps-in-my-face doctor. Which I guess is just yet another reason to make a regular annual appt with my regular doctor and get his take on my “might warrant further investigation” issues.

Is masking mandatory at SPX? Not judging, just wondering about the state of things as I wait for the new Covid booster arriving next month.

Becky Fish

You were in my neck of the woods!

Alice Dunn

‘Tightly embrace the robot’! You know it hums!?

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I just started watching Paranoia Agent, and I'll be danged if your skate guy doesn't remind me of Shonen Bat D:

Damon Hart-Davis

Many many years ago when I was working at a big fancy workstation with big (CRT) screens I suddenly had an enormous need to sneeze and threw my hands up in front of my face ... but not very effectively ... and left outlines of my fingers and hands like a snot X-ray on both screens. Oh my!

Underpants and Overbites

So sorry about your neck! I've totallllly thrown mine out sneezing to the side. Also reaching back to shut a door and extracting myself from a tight sweater. We comics oldies gotta be careful

Cat Hicks

I've also had the "this is more weird than painful" experience with mammograms.

dcorsetto

Yeah, it was mandatory! Which was difficult on my vocal chords, but I'm grateful - so many of my friends with kids are coming down with covid right now.

Tim Pendergast

I recently stocked up on masks again as the current strain seems to be less severe but more contagious. On the upside, the new vax should be be available this week or next.
