Forty's a great age to hang out with friends you made in your twenties.

Eh, they can't all be upbeat.

I used to write a lot of (mostly bad) poetry. Comics are my native tongue, and it feels like I can get my point across a little better when I accompany words with drawings. So, I literally drew this out, to figuratively draw it out of my mind.

I started physical therapy recently (my left elbow hasn't been straight in 7 years, and I'm learning exercises to strengthen my noodly wrists). I went in completely ignorant to what PT is (it is GREAT).

This didn't work, either, so I drew the exercises on post-it notes and put them on a sheet of paper that lives on my drawing board.

GOOD NEWS: it worked.

Three days in and I haven't broken it yet!

My housemate refused to buy me a cheap one, even though I found the old one on eBay for like $6. I can't get a good photo of its replacement, but it's this beautiful thing.

Middle schoolers are back to walking down my street when they get out of school, and my stoop is apparently the new TikTok challenge.

(The "I like tomatoes" was kind of misleading/unimportant to put in the comic, but I thought it was cute that one boy was like "oh actually I like these.")

I'm posting this right before I leave for a weekend with the girls I was in Girl Scouts with through high school (in case you didn't know that tidbit about  me). So, quick Cathy-Star Wars mashup it is! Have a pleasant weekend!

That is a really neat teapot.

Corintha Hull

Oh that teapot is glorious! I would also be scared to actually use it though, heh.

Joanna

It looks SO breakable! But lovely. But breakable...

It's Pyrex? Only thing I would worry about is the spout when cleaning, we have 40+ year old Pyrex measuring cups, and yes they have been dropped. Unsponsored plugs: I get my daily mug o' tea or 4 from a brewer I got at Adagio Tea in 2006, which is called ingenuiTEA (BPA free!), mine came with a plastic screen, but the new ones have stainless. I have dropped it, usually in the sink, taken it apart to clean it, etc. Cleans easier in a dish washing machine, which I don't have , but have used when on vacation. I generally soak it in vinegar and scrub the thing when I get disgusted with it. Upton Tea sells good loose leaf tea as well, with less loopy names for their products.

I LOVED the "I like tomatoes" line, so thank you for including it! I also think your punny Cathy mashup is totally dailies material, because it came from the brain of Danielle.

Sister-in-law got me some tiny tomatoes (grape sized) plants, which they have been cultivated since they spontaneously showed up in her previous house's backyard and she is giving to all and sundry to spread them around. I don't have much luck with tomatoes, too many bugs.

We have two glass teapots in daily use and the only thing we broke on both were the glass sieves inside. Which seems to be something that happens often because you can buy the sieves on their own. The one that we couldn't get a replacement for we bought a metal one that works just fine. The glass is not as breakable as you think. Also I'm guessing you use glass glasses every day without thinking of breakage.

I'm so heartened to hear that you still hang out with your Girl Scout friends from HS! I love tales of lasting community connections. My daughter's elementary school Girl Scout troop just decided to stay together in middle school even though they're going to four different schools - I hope her troop connections will stay as strong as yours have.

I've owned a glass teapot for years and even though my brain KNOWS that it's a very strong glass, my heart is like 'oh no i will break it' and so I rarely use it. The borosilicate glass is very strong but... yeah.

Being from an aquatic species means that you're always swimsuit-ready.

ahhh the middle school pepper dare ❤️

Sabrina

awww haha i love the ‘i like tomatoes’ kid

Meisterj

That is such a nice tea pot! I want one and I never drink tea from a pot. I just make it in a big mug if I'm not drinking coffee that day I would have loved free tomatoes in middle school. I've always loved eating raw tomatoes

Andy Ihnatko

That's a good roommate. There are too many people who would have said "The teapot broke" instead of "*I* broke *your*" teapot.

I was literally in the middle of doing home PT exercises as I read this post (just got my cast off yesterday after elbow awfulness and doc warns I may never be able to straighten it again) and hiccuped a laugh out loud to see you illustrating my day!

Katherine

Oof I'm so intimidated by glass teapots. I usually heat the water in the microwave and it cools off so quickly. This is more of a problem these days since I have a very distracting toddler. Also, I'm always afraid the manufacturer mislabeled the glass and it's going to explode on me. That happened in college to me when i put a glass coffee pot in the sink. Thermal shock is real y'all.

Theadora

I can do some gentle stretching when I'm waking up in the morning, so I do some of my PT then, in kind of a "what's my body up for this morning?" sort of way.

Rich

Could not agree more with hanging out with friends you made in your 20s in your 40s (and the ones you made in your 30s, and teens too!)

Cathi Andrews

I already do three of those exercises (or versions of them), so adding in the fourth. Mine relates to taking up bouldering past 50 though, as my body continues to adjust to being used in fun but previously unfamiliar ways. Also, it's a hard fight to not buy one of those teapots - both because it is so cool/pretty, and also because *fandom*. :)
