The best thing about drawing Dakota is that she LOVES IT when I draw her face with a ton of sass.

Five minute warmups, go!

And here are my sketches for the rest-of-the-night pose (first one on the right, to get the shapes and values down; second one on the left, to stretch the exaggeration more):

I guess it's less sass, and more... undead? Michael drew her looking like an evil queen and she was SO digging the Halloween vibes.

Here are some in-progress shots of the final watercolor, which I decided to do in (mostly) monochrome purple:

It's super rare that I don't draw the head first, but I risked it this time!

Here's the final scan:

I was definitely inspired by the monochromatic purplish coloring on the current chapter of Elephant Town - which I really struggled with, because it seemed too sparse, but ultimately decided was the best option.

I also didn't bring the right colored pencils or ink pens to outline this drawing with, so I decided to channel my inner Monica Gallagher and try to "ink" it with a brush and some Inktense. I'm going to try to ink with a brush more often - it's HARD and takes a long time, but I'm only gonna get better with more practice!

Here's that closeup of the face again, so you can see my teeny-tiny size-0 brushwork!

I love this! She's got a real cryptid feel to her, somehow.
