In case Patreon is still doing their new gallery format (I think a lot of us have been complaining about it!), here's the first one so you can read it without clickin':

I was in Ohio for several days reconnecting with the Girl Scout troop I was part of from 1st through 12th grade, plus our moms, which was quite a feat! There are four members missing, but even getting ten of us together was pretty impressive.

My mom is the one tucked away in the C! I'm riding the a like a bull rider, next to my childhood bestie Emily.

And not to worry, Ollie is fine. I hate that he's gotten bitten twice, but it's not deep and he's fresh on his rabies vax. I'm hoping it's just a squirrel fighting back, because he's brought home at least three hind legs this year and he kinda deserves it!

They didn't come out THAT bad, though! The Spectrum Nova white glaze I bought was the only thing that seemed to be a big problem - it melted right on down to the bottoms of most of the pieces it was on.

Here are a few of the ones featured here; I'll include all the rest of them at the bottom so you can check them all out if you're a big Ceramics Nerd like I am now.

(I'm not opposed to the melty-ness of the white on this one!)

The bigger problem is on these flat-bottomed ones, because the glaze dropped right on underneath and caused them to be... no longer flat. Womp womp.

AGAIN!! And just like Ollie, it happened a minute away from the vet's office. I asked the vet about it and she said it's just the luck of the draw. Color me lucky.

At least he didn't pee on the way home like Ollie did!

The following is also based on a true story:

Okay but actually, Kris's estranged ex-wife was a fun character in my dream, so she probably WILL get a part in this play. (Just not as her ex-wife.)

Luckily I laid out the entire chapter I'm working on now (it'll be a short one) during shavasana.

Proof of the sewing room reorganization:

(The crack Calvin fixed was behind the built-in shelf near the corner - he did good!)

And proof of both the flower-picking AND the macrame-learning:

Here's the rest of the clay pieces, my fellow clay nerds!

Mmmm that flowy drip! Too bad it dripped right under the bottom or this one would have been a success!

These flat ones were just supposed to be trials for painting certain glazes over other glazes:

Not terrible!

My favorite one, luckily, turned out PERFECT:

I wanna make more like this one. :)

I also really liked this one:

This little tea light holder was supposed to be gold, but came out very dark and pock-marked! But I still thought it looked nice, once it fulfilled its purpose. :)

I got an email welcoming me to “the new Patreon” so I fear the new gallery format may be here to stay… extra happy that you also always put all the images in the body of the text

I miss doing pottery. I hope I can eventually figure out how to get back to that, but I'm very happy to live vicariously through your adventures. I love the way your glazes came out with that white!

dcorsetto

Thanks for confirming!! *squeezes teeth together and screams silently and politely*

Jean-Philippe Doucet

For the no longer flat one(s), since the bottom is the problem and it should be hidden, can you sand it back to being flat?

Ruth Merriam

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the fluidity of your pieces. They have a little waving in the breeze action going on that's very calming. Love those 😼 faces, and was that a llama? So glad you had time away with old friends. Don't know why my uncreative brain kept trying to make the sign behind all of you read Cleopatra. 😆

Hugh Eckert

I actually love the melty white on that first one.

dcorsetto

I was looking into that! It seems like it would take a VERY long time (in a mask, with goggles). Of course I WANT to do that... but I don't know when I'll have a few hours to kill just sanding away at them!

Ursus Ridens

The taller thin pieces look as if they might be (possibly broken-off) tree branches. Care to make more of that tree?

Jean-Philippe Doucet

Wow. Never thought glazing would be that durable. Good luck...?

dcorsetto

It's literally grinding glass! I think I'm just one glassworking nerd away from finding a good solution...

dcorsetto

You clay people know your shit!! The honey flux is on that last vase. I wish I'd used it instead of the white I ordered!! It turned out great. :) And THANK YOU for all this!

Laura J Testa-Reyes

I think if Ollie is taking bits from squirrels, they have a right to bite him back.

Tim Pendergast

Poor Luke! He looks so sad on Tuesday!

Julie Howard

I want you to make those flat cat pieces and sell them! They are awesome!

Andy Ihnatko

Your pottery looks very nice! You've definitely got the eye and the style, after so many years in art...the technical stuff about clay and firing and glazes is probably much easier to pick up. I like how you're translating your drawing style to...not 3D but perhaps 1.5D?...clay.

Andy Ihnatko

Well, did it ever occur to you that maybe Ollie's butt is just delicious?

Andy Ihnatko

I mean, they have to deal with this "No, this big store of fresh yummy seeds is free for some critters, but **** squirrels specifically" bull**** all week...at some point, that anger finds an outlet.

Deb with the purple bike

Ooo, all the ceramics pieces are gorgeous, thank you for sharing them! The cat faces are delightful and the drippy flowy glazes look organic and beautiful, very daoist. The hanging "envelope" vase with the macrame and flowers all put together is so joyful! (PS hope Ollie's butt heals with no need for a collar of shame.)

Minzoku Bokumetsu

yeah, I saw that e-mail first and IMMEDIATELY thought, okay, what did they ruin now besides the confusing "recent" feed that includes updates from WEEKS AGO, I now permanently have 35 notifications I can't clear Edit: Oh, I finally scrolled down far enough to see one of the creators I follow who'd taken a very long hiatus actually has the next most "recent" posts from *2020*

M Aidan

You can sand down the bottoms! It takes power though, a belt sander at the very least

Steve Boyko

Love the ceramics! The melty look is great.

E

For the no-longer-flat bases you could glue a cork or felt pad on the underside with a cutout for the drip bits. (It might not even need to be cut out, just pressed in)

Susy

Gasp! They are beautiful! I love the dripping effect even if it wasn't intentional. BTW you should be able to sand the drips off the bottom to make them flat again.

Naufragous Kat

I mostly love the dripping effect except that on one particular piece where it is, uh, shinier, it immediately made me think of something *else* and I’m almost sorry I’m sharing that but dammit if my brain had to go there .... I absolutely **love** the tiny green vessel that is brownish at the top, right above the one you labeled your favorite.

Leslie Carter

Methinks your ET break involved ceramics, plus some textiles creations and gardening. I get it - different media shakes loose the art muses, like exercising different sets of muscles! … okay, I’m being a nerd with my comment - your variety sort of justifies my goofing off the drawing board to watch movies (it sometimes even works! Just completed roughing chapter 2’s page 19 …)

dcorsetto

I was thinking about that! I've got other ideas, too... I'm sure I'll share. ;)

dcorsetto

FIND OUT in this week's edition of Friday Dailies!! (Spoilers: it's a horror flick!)

dcorsetto

It's so true!! Different methods of expression get the creative brain fired up. Plus, it makes me wanna get back to ET, especially when I realize I can't express my ideas as easily in mediums I'm not familiar with. :) Goof off! Life's short! :)

dcorsetto

PS, congrats on roughing out a page! I know how the seemingly-small things are actually pretty monumental...

Leslie Carter

Thanks, I needed that! ;) Now onto a 2-page spread …
