I'm not too proud to tell you this.

I am too proud to tell you how long I spent on those labels.

WHEN HE RUBS MY BACK. 😬

We were actually there for my friend Shane's open studio - he's an amazing traditional sign painter - but his pal Christopher opened up his tattoo studio in the same building that night, and it was cozy in there, so we all ended up there later. Here's the actual tattoo Christopher put on that dude's back!

The Bathroom Fridge is super convenient in the winter. If you want cold drinks, that is. Not if you want to pee in comfort.

This next one isn't really a comic - skip it if you're not interested in pens, or how people hold their pen!

The Tay-Tay is hard to control, but feels nice!

From here out I'm trying to hold my pen with one finger while I draw my Dailies, to see how it affects my wrists. Also to help my wrists, I'm ditching my Microns (they take too much grip & pressure to get a good line out of). I'm lettering with a Faber-Castell Pitt 0.3, and drawing with the Copic Multiliner 0.1. For you nerds who care.

Eleanor Davis is an amazing artist who decided to ride her bike from Tuscon to Georgia, sleeping in a tent wherever she could find space. Her narration is so different from anyone's work I've ever read. She lets the reader make a lot of their own decisions. Highly recommend.

SURPRISE, here are some hourly comics!

And that's as far as I got, because:

._.

SO. If you're interested in doing Hourly Comic Day with us next week, it's on February 1st! (It is exactly what it sounds like.) I guess I set my phone alarm to go off a week early so I could prepare. I probably did this to myself.

(In my defense I'd given away my OTHER calendar to a neighbor the day before! Boy was I confused for half of the day.)

(But I got to hang out with Ryan.)

Bonus panel: here's the original Bathroom Fridge ending, which I redrew because Luke said it looked like nipples instead of cans. Or, I guess, like "cans" that are not made of aluminum.

Hope that doesn't scar you. Happy Weekend to y'all!

Hourly comics?? I'm lucky if I get my weekly comic out. -_-

Drazi

I was wondering why you were doing hourlys. Practice! 💖

Drazi

Absolutely! 😳

Josh Smift

Next time you have occasion to go about with your back bare, you should totally put actual little plastic googly eyes on the birds. Those cans only look like nipples if you're wearing some kind of super weird sweatshirt with cutouts in the front for your boobs. Which, like not to shame anyone who's into that! But it's certainly not a *common* look for a garment.

Meisterj

The finish on that hourly page is so pleasant and looks time consuming

Annalisa Snow

The TayTay isn't bad, if you put the pen in between those first two fingers, but guide the pen with thumb and index(middle finger on side of pen) You're right, very comfy.

The sewing store in my neighborhood got a new upstairs tenant: a tattoo shop. This feels appropriate and it delights me. Given that there's also a knitting store just down the street a little, it appears that my neighborhood is a magnet for needle-oriented independent businesses. The natural implications of this are quite concerning.

I'm thinking that somewhere, there's a person who NEVER forgets the birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant life events of all of their friends and family members. Everybody thinks they're the most thoughtful person in the world. When in reality, the dates got tattooed into their brain because their life partner got the dates tattooed onto his or her back. The "Repetition + Reward" system of training is known to be nearly 100% effective. (Perhaps Luke should get an "Hourly Comics Day: Feb. 1" tattoo on a place where this concept could be put into practice?)

The Toy. I started using the one you call Tay-Tay around the time she was perfecting her writing skills. 😅 I use it when my wrist or thumb begins to hurt when writing, so I tend to switch between that and the two-finger method. -jess

Amy Crook

I saw you talking about the drawing grip thing in another post I think? I use one finger and have forced myself to learn to relax, which helps a lot with hand and wrist strain. The Tay-Tay looks...fraught. XD Also, waking to the cat stink solidarity, haha. I continue to love these!

"The Tay-Tay is hard to control, but feels nice!" snrk

Man that sounds like an A+ April Fool’s sex joke to me.

Your first daily speaks to my soul. I spent 1.5 hours this past weekend purging, reorganizing, and labeling our tea cabinet. We may have too much tea.

Tim Pendergast

I too got hit with the cleaning bug last week, partly to justify having the heat sky high because of the very cold temps hereabouts and partly because I was finally able to after being knocked down for three weeks because of a car accident on Christmas Eve.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I always balk at participating in Hourly Comic Day not bc hourly comics, but Spouse Bday 😬

Minzoku Bokumetsu

oh, friend of ours had a "mini-fridge" that was just the space between the door and the storm door

dcorsetto

Hah! I used to keep frozen pizzas between the north-facing swing-out window and the storm window.

dcorsetto

Those were ALLLL teas, and only about 1/3 of the tea in the house - I feel you!

Annalisa Snow

I've had that said about me a few times 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Margreet de Heer

I do the two-finger too. My theory: it's how people hold their pen who started drawing before they went to school and learned it the other way. The REAL die-hard drawers! We are known by the little lump on the side of the ring finger of our drawing hand.

Naufragous Kat

Oooooh, it looks like a nice hardback edition of that book is in presales right now. Or I could get a used paperback copy for way less. Decisions, decisions …

dcorsetto

Ooohh that's interesting! (I don't remember ANYONE trying to "correct" my hold, but when I brought it up with my friend who owns a preschool, she explained that people go overboard with the "one correct way to hold a pencil" thing with kids!)

Ryan Walker

I used that grip sometimes in 8th grade art class in the 80s. As I recall, it was pretty stable and useful for detail work. I found it too cumbersome for longer lines. Alas, art didn’t stick for me, so neither did the grip.

M Aidan

I adore Eleanor Davis! I have the Bike book, and also How To Be Happy. (And her partner Drew Weing is soooo good too but in totally other ways!!) ❤️

Cin

Ha! I relate to the "pantry fridge"... During a cold snap we had I definitely considered putting things in the refrigerator that I DIDN'T want to freeze!
