This anime is produced by the same studio as Solo Leveling. It's sad that this anime is on the list of anime that people hate for no reason

As Unlasting started i started crying ... That stupid song and direction of that ending always playing it just before end of episode was so cruel but amazing at the same time :) Without spoiling there is more than just one game and setting is sad ... I mean if you watch just the first episode you will get most of the info :) Whole series are basicaly trying to grasp possibilities of Virtual Gaming/life

It's because the longer it goes, the more stupid the series gets. Even from the outset, the actual functionality of the games it presents are bad just from a gameplay perspective.

Ohhh that explains why some parts reminded me of solo levelling

SAO covers a bunch of different topics throughout the show, the technology involved includes Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Artificial Intelligence. Many of the Arcs include very dark themes but not all. Most hate stems from the story in the second half of season 1 being weak and having a plot only Japan could come up with. I don't mind it but many people hate it and hate the show overall for it along with the villain's often being very trope heavy. I think the topics covered and the character relations are what carry the show along with the OST and animation that improves constantly. The movies have had amazing production put to them resulting is some real eye candy. You will cry, you will laugh, and you will feel for the characters throughout the show. Highly recommend it as a show to watch at least once.

The last OP is the one from the first Progressive movies. They are a retelling of the start of the anime but at a slower pace and from our Main Girls perspective instead. So far 2 of the movies in that series with the 3rd in the works. So currently there are 3 SAO storylines to follow, 4 if you count the awesome Abridged show. Mainline SAO has 4 seasons with a movie between season 2 and 3. Gun Gale Online is a spinoff from the second season of SAO with 2 seasons so far. Progressive is a series of movies I mentioned above.

There is 2 versions of some, you saw the second half 3rd opening with the two girls that became 1.

I know this video is ancient history at this point, but I just had to chime in and say no, there is no paintball involved in GGL whatsoever. If there is shooting each other in virtual reality, paintball is not gonna be a big thing. Yes, they are vicious rivals. The MC is tiny, cute and pink because her real life body is tall, tomboyish and unconfident.

If you watched mother rosario arc you would never said that. "Sleeping knights" forever dude.

If you liked Solo Leveling and Mushoku you would love SAO. Outside of Naruto SAO was one of first proper anime what introduced me to weekly shows when I was 16 or 17 ... 15 years ago ... It was before Isekai anime started and one of anime what helped evolve that genre. Most people like first season only and hate rest. I never understood it its one of best and longest anime series animated out there and I would place in as par with Frieren or Mushoku. My most favorite is Mother Rosario arc because how much emotions are in that season. Its like 4th or 5th season. "Sleeping knights" forever. I would reccomend for you to watch it. Without spoilers, anime is centered about virtual death games ... how about what would happened if you died in-game you would also die in real life ... premis is that because of that fact, people start treating game more like second reality and how it is part of their life. Emotions, friends everything they made inside of games. Group of people who are experiencing hardships in digital space what forever changed how they look at world outside of it, this case can be pretty deadly for multiple reasons. Lots of psychological and emotional. You learn to love characters mostly because of their relationships but mostly because they found joy in places where they lost hope. And believe it or not its one of anime where main character actually date only one girl :D even if he is swarmed. It's realistic. It ment to be set in future and you will see technology of virtual reality evolve. It's quite good future where I would love to live in to be honest. Not that Meta crap but proper one. It's anime before isekai genre formed as it is today but what shaped it heavily for reason. It's not even authors first virtual reality anime. His first was Accel World what had also lots of good promis ... its also referenced in SAO as an easter egg ... Most people who hate it never understood it or watched it at all. Casual watchers what watch only few episodes before they decide to discard it. Sao shaped whole anime industry. A1 picture studio is top and SAO helped them a lot in popularity. I watched almost everything from them because of SAO. Later Isekai genre evolved from idea of another world what SAO basicaly created via ingame worlds ... that idea was popularized in SAO so most of isekai anime at that time were created because they tried emmulate SAO and it's success. Also one of first anime where LiSA started to create her name in music openings. One of reasons why opening are so good. Lately she made maeby best sounding opening in colaboration with artists in Shangrilla. Coincidence with virtual reality anime? Don't think so.
