Movie will flow better, obviously... but films frequently just leave me speechless and exhausted.Episodes will produce far more room for discussion and pacing it myself... but will interrupt the initial flow of the film. Various commenters have commented both ways. Let's see what the masses think.

First and I go with TV version

nikum

I think that for the analysis and discussion format episodes are better.

kuro

If you're going to watch the whole of Season 2 I'd say watch the episodes otherwise I'd say watch the movie

Call Me Kay

I think the first ep if the tv show version has extra content (a prologue, essentially(, but the tv version only adds a small amount more content than the films, plus an op + ed (I think).

Go with what suits your nature best. Other than some Act 1 changes from Film to TV, from here on the Show and the Movie are paced pretty evenly.

RazorTH

I only saw in movie format, so I don't know how much the flow is impacted in the tv version

Stated Whale

I feel being able to pace yourself and leaving more room for discussion about the material is more valuable than the better pacing you get from watching the movie version.

FULONGAMER aka Johannes Bowers

I'd go with the show. The minor variances introduced to the episodic presentation do not "break" the flow any more than a traditiinal act structure does for any given Arc, and the "arc prequel" episode not included in the movie would have been missed. Putting more thought into the discussion is better for your presentation style. The studio is really making these movies (Mugen and Swordsmith) for "arc release format" with a built-in episodic pulse anyway, as this is just another marketing format to repackage and resell this season's components.

I personally didnt feel the flow being impacted that much but thats just me so I dont know

Hayaku Eon

Show. The movie was just a ''let's make an arc into a movie'', and replay the same thing as an episode anyways. Really made me mad.

Caribou-kun

I think your logic with the show makes sense, tho you could always check out the movie version afterward. I'd personally want to experience it as initially presented, similar to watching the Gundam series before the compilation movies

Mark Wise

Breaking the movie up into multiple episodes might help avoiding copyright strikes.

Maxime Billaud

I've watched both and the movie has so much more impact than the tv series imo. You saw most extra content from episode 1 as well so not much to be gained except extra discussion would be nice as you said. Also am an impatient piece of shit and the wait between episode will kill me haha but that's a me problem.

CodeMonkeysGuy

I think people overhype the movie's pacing. I watched the movie and thought it flowed kinda eh despite having been in the pro-movie camp before the screening. But then I watched the TV re-run week by week and thought that was pretty eh that way too. Both have scenes unique to themselves that aren't in the other version. Nothing ride or die on either side of the coin though. But I think the TV version is probably more manageable in the end.

Klasik

My main point of frustration with the TV show is that the original advertising for the move took great care in choosing what to show and what to keep a surprise, whereas the TV opening blatanly disregards this, at least to me, incredibly strong and well motivated choice in favor of hype? The OP be spoiling spoiling for no reason and it's unfortunate.

DatDoubleBass

I've only seen the movie version so that's all I can truly attest to in terms of experience. I understand if this 'leave it to the vote' thing is because you find both sides give good points so it's hard to come to a fully confident decision. But if you'd rather do it in episodes and you're more worried that the audience will engage less with that structure I don't think that'll be much of a worry. As you sorta said, watching the TV show version gives more time to breathe and lets you and everyone else focus on parts of the arc that could possibly get lost in the overwhelming nature of the hype and emotion of shounen movies. On the other end I can imagine the cliffhangers would be killer. All in all the more I've written the more I've realised that this just makes the decision continue to be difficult. Do whatever the you that believes in you would do or somethin, peace and happy paddy's ✌🇮🇪

Kim

I watched both, and the show episodes hit harder for me.

Sabersquirl

Full Disclosure, I dont care bout KnY at all, so i'm only voting movie so it will possibly take up less of your time.

linked winters

I've not watched the anime version, so it'd be nice to see what new stuff they added in between. That first episode wasn't even referenced in the movie, so i can imagine what else is new.

Lairdom

I watched the movie and the series and yeah the movie flows better because the episodes cut off at times when its not always the best for the flow. But I voted for the series because we would get more indepth discussion for parts that would probably be skimmed over when discussing the entire movie as a whole. Ultimately I dont care which way you go. Both are excellent.

Supabass

It really depends. For consumption/appreciation of art, I say movie. For dissection/analysis of artistry, I say episodes. You're sorta in a pickle here as a content creator who would ideally get to do both to their fullest capacity.

Napolitan

To be a good voter I felt obliged to give a quick rewatch to the TV version to be able to decide correctly, and it would be a lie to say that this version does not damage the rhythm of certain scenes in the separation between chapters, but it is not like it ruins the movie, however there are two aspects of the TV version that I think that greatly damage the experience, but both are fixable, the first one would be the OP which for some reason thinks that you already saw the movie xD, so you would have to skip it, and the other one, which for me is very serious, is the break of the climax due to the division of chapters, so I would strongly recommend to watch the last two episodes together. Even though I think the TV version is an inferior experience to the movie, I prefer you to watch the episodic version, mainly because I'm not only interested in your simple reaction but also in what you can analyze and dissect of the phenomenal work that UFOTABLE has put in this IP, and as you say, watching the movie would probably not allow you to appreciate as you would like the whole work. (sorry for the wall of text and if there are any strange words, I'm still learning english :S).

Pyrtuch

Ehh, on one hand better discussions seem nice but having to sit through the beginning of this arc in episodes format would be kind of a drag, especially since the recaps make it even worse. Honestly the only time I would choose the TV ver is if you knock out like first 2 eps in one go, otherwise the movie it is.

Fabian Alpuche

The clímax of the movie is very emotional and the series just breaks the rythm and the experience for me And not only that but at the end of the episodes it gives you a break to process the situation of the characters and when the next episode starts you already understand the situation before the episode begins So, even if you skip the opening you will get spoiled just by watching the episodes wich is a shitty experience (My English is shit but I hope u can understand)

darkymatter

Read the manga and when they announced the movie i thought "That's the perfect way to adapt this arc". Movie did not disappoint in that regard. Didn't watch the show version.

River

I've watched both and enjoyed both. I like the built in breaks for discussion episodes would bring, i think it would be generative. Either way, I'm glad you at least checked out the first episode, as most people missed it just watching the movie, and it really is an excellent character set up and even adds an interesting bit of context for the story of the movie. You should also check out the OP at some point (though maybe near the end), just bc it's another thing people missed and i think it's pretty great.

Nicholas Alexander

I think watching the TV show is a fine replacement aslong as you skip the op and group certain episodes together. Problem is I doubt there will be any consensus on which episodes to watch together.

Zali

I watched the arc in both formats, and I think the TV format is fine to have more time during the viewing to unpack all of the content. However as others have mentioned I would recommend skipping the opening, at least until you've watched all of the episodes, the opening is very high spoilers and leaves little to the imagination. Still a banger, but a spoiler.
