Over the years I have had many requests for a dragon drawing tutorial, so here's my version of a dragon! I guess I finally got inspired by reading the Fourth Wing series 😊

The color palette and the little brush pack for this project are attached to the post (as always, make sure to use a browser like Safari or Chrome when downloading, the Patreon app won't let you download attachments unfortunately).

Flo, have you ever done a tutorial on how to create our own color palette? Id love to be more confident on choosing colours for a project - how do you pick the right hues and shades? Is it math? Or sorcery? Or (my fave) just close your eyes and tap your pen down on the colour wheel? Id love to have more confidence to get myself set up for my own projects.

Haha, I love your options—especially the sorcery one! 😄 I haven’t made a full tutorial on creating your own color palette yet, but it’s something I’d love to dive into because you’re definitely not the only one with this question. It’s not math (thank goodness), and although it sometimes feels like magic, there is a bit of logic and a lot of experimentation behind it. What helps me most is starting with a mood or theme—do I want something warm and cozy, bright and playful, calm and neutral? From there, I usually pick 1–2 main colors and then build around those with contrast (light/dark) and variation (warm/cool, muted/vibrant). I often use reference photos, inspiring illustrations or color palette generators for inspiration too! And finally the adjustment options in Procreate are a great way to experiment with the colors and tweak them. I’ll keep this in mind for a future tutorial. I think it could really help a lot of Flocreators feel more confident starting their own pieces.

So cute. Looks like a giraffe with the spots.. a gi-ragon, if you will 🤭

I really struggled to keep my line strokes looking smooth with this one. My sketch looks like I’ve had 8 cups of coffee.
