Part 2 is here! This week we are coloring our witch apothecary, all the flat colors, watercolor textures, shading, and a little hand-lettered sign for the front.

I made a special brush pack for this tutorial and it is included below. The brushes give a really nice watercolor quality to the coloring — slightly different each stroke, a bit of texture and variety built in — which suits this cozy, illustrated style really well.

The approach is to lay down flat colors first on separate layers, then build up shading with clipping mask layers set to multiply, and finish with a highlights layer on top. My finished piece is included in the post so you can use it as a reference.

The sketch I made is attached to the post (as always, make sure to use a browser like Safari or Chrome when downloading, the Patreon app won't let you download attachments unfortunately).

Woohoo! I am going to try to animate it to be a night scene as well and put a witch on a broom at night. Hopefully I can pull it off. I will still have a great illustration if I can't.

The item on the bottom shelf is a mortar and pestle.

That was a wonderful tutorial and I learned a lot, particularly about the use of layers for different effects. Very instructive! Thank you very much as always.
