In this 2 hour video I will show you the process of painting a still life with a painterly texture. I've added the canvas texture brushes that I used in this video. I enjoyed making this painterly painting so much, that I plan to create a big painterly brush set with a variety of canvas texture brushes and nice mixer brushes.

I've also added the reference photo and you can download the working file here (it was too big to add to this post): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Q-LO58h0Q_9tDMMnG7n4BPVDgBjG_Aua

The reference photos are from Shutterstock, feel free to use them for practice purposes (you just can't use it for commercial purposes like selling prints ;))

Wow, that was a great tutorial and definitely my favorite one you posted.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear that :D

Hi Flo, I noticed first you used lighter gray to the background for entire area before applying different colors to the Right and left background and blocking colors with the flowers. Is it necessary to use that grey first? If yes what is the reason? As you know I am new to procreate and trying to understand how things work. Thanks.

Everyone has a personal aproach to a painting, It can or cannot work for you, it’s just a base to start with😊

I'm sorry for the late response Shanti, Patreon sometimes doesn't give me notifications. I don't like starting out with white, so I always try to find a base color that is relatively close the colors that I want to apply later. It's not necessary though :)

No worries Flo. Thanks for the explanation.

Thank you Flo, amazing tutorial! Question, where can I get the basic set brushes? if not, are there any other suggestions to substitute similar brushes for the ones used in the video?

Art with Flo

The link to the basic brush set is in the welcoming dm I sent you :)

It's incredibly frustrating and discouraging when I'm using the same brush you stated, but I'm very clearly getting a different effect when I use it. Like the Basic Flo Canvas (love the brush, btw, thank you).. on your picture it looks like it almost has a natural blending quality to it, so shades and colors transition seamlessly. Mine looks like I'm coloring a color over a color, so you can see every line, every stroke, just a color painted over another.. It doesn't look right at all.

And you're using an Apple Pencil? It sounds like a pressure issue, the lighter you press the more transparent your stroke should be. I use very little pressure to be able to blend colors. You could try playing around with your pressure curve, I have dragged it up a little bit, so it has a curve and it's not just a diagonal anymore. Good luck!

Hi Flo, I can’t download the brushes. I tried to download the thick Square brush, and I couldn’t. Can you please help me. Thanks
