In this 1,5 hour video tutorial I walk you through my process of creating stylized landscape illustrations. Starting out with just values and adding the colors in the final stage.

I've added the (very limited ;)) color palette and brushes. I hope you'll enjoy this painting process! You can download the working file through this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nGnniLTUP8LIsu7fDKcZ7QWxh2Mmynlc/view?usp=sharing

I have also created two color variations. You can easily create variations using the new gradient map feature in Procreate 5X.

You can find the reference I used here: https://twitter.com/Ednist_info/status/912224979969855488/photo/1

Intermediate Tutorial: Little House Landscape

In this 1,5 hour video tutorial I will show you how I approach making a stylized landscape illustration like this little house on an island.

Too difficult for me to understand!

Art with Flo

No, but using brushes in stead of gradient maps is still my preferred way of working ;)

strngbirdx@gmail.com

Actually, I was talking about the new Reference function, where you don’t have to do the split screen anymore.

Art with Flo

I believe you can only open a photo/file in it, right? I was using Pinterest here. I don't like the reference function much, anyway 😅

strngbirdx@gmail.com

Ah, okay. I have used it with my own reference photos, and I like it better than the split screen, I think it takes up less room. But, it's nice that we have both options.

Joy

Flo, where the Ref Photo? I've not watched all the video yet? Maybe you've said you won't be posting it? I don't know yet? Lol OH someone else asked about the chalk pencil? Looking forward to doing this... Thanks Flo

Art with Flo

I've added it to the post, but I believe it should also be in the DropBox folder with all the other brushes

Art with Flo

I've added a link to the reference photo in case you want to use it too

Although beautiful and I did this tutorial and my version came out nice.... this was probably the most back and fourth confusing tutorial I've done with you. 😬 You didn't show steps as well as usual and towards the color part it was mostly quiet. Lots of nah let's go back and re do this part again. So many layers no explanation of how to group just frustrating

Art with Flo

I'm so sorry to hear you found it confusing Jessica, but I understand. This is more of a process video than a step by step tutorial. This shows the way I work creating a landscape like this, showing what I go through in the process 😅 This is what I do before I adapt an illustration and make it into a straight forward step by step tutorial. This is the process that I went through for the cute ghost video for example. And these type of messy processes are also the start of most of the You Can Draw This videos. In any case, easier tutorials are coming soon ;)

Jessica Lamb

Oh I didn't find it complicated I have done your advanced things... I just found it confusing

Joy

Thank you Flo :)

shay emanuela

I love it, and I learned so much from just whacking you. Thanks

This is one of my favorite videos! I’m accustomed to using layers so it felt like I had more control again. Also this video is packed with so much; composition, value, stylization...it’s like 5 lessons in one. I found this one really fun and relaxing. Excellent!

Art with Flo

That's so awesome to hear June! Thank you 😃

Meynardo Jose

Hi Flo, you mentioned in the description that you added the working file, although I don’t see the link. Did I somehow miss that? Thanks!

Art with Flo

That's strange... I thought I had added it. I'll try again!

Meynardo Jose

It’s 244+ MB, that’s probably why!? Anyway, it’s all good now :-) Btw, I got the Animal Brush Pack 2 and Blender+Nature brushes, both from Gumroad. Looking forward to doing some intermediate painting this weekend. Thanks again for the super quick response!

Ayu Sityamurti

Hi Flo, I just started to sketch this picture, but when you said that you picked up a brush from ‘Ilustration Brush’ then I didn’t have it on my Procreate. Did you installed some extra brushes before? I’m sure that I installed some extra brushes from this post, but I don’t have much like you. Do you mind to share those brushes? Thanks

Art with Flo

I have shared the links to my brush packs and folder with extra brushes in the welcoming dm I sent you when you joined

Ayu Sityamurti

Ah I seeee, thanks Floor! 😆😆🙏🏻👍🏽

I must say that I'm really disappointed. I was following the tutorials on Youtube and your way of explaining was amazing, even the color palettes were there in order and for free. but here I'm paying and you don't explain step by step and also you use some brushes in some tutorials that are not available with the video. and also you give us the color palette and while you are painting you start selecting colors from the value bottom so that very confusing. so I think i was happier following you just on youtube.

Art with Flo

Hi Alexis, I'm sorry to hear that. If you like the videos on YouTube, then an intermediate tutorial might not be the best place to start. Here at Patreon I share videos ranging from beginner level to more advanced levels. In the more advanced (and intermediate) tutorials, I share my way of working, which means I never start out with a color palette (what you see in You Can Draw This videos is not my working process, a whole development process comes prior to it). If you want to be able to create your own work and not blindly follow step by step tutorials, then it's important to learn how to sketch out ideas for example and to learn how to pick colors. If you rather just follow easy steps, then there are beginner level videos here at Patreon and also Patreon exclusive You Can Draw This videos. For all of the brushes I'd like to refer to this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/44839717 You can find all of the brushes I use in tutorials in the DropBox folder. If by any chance I have missed one, then you can always drop me a note. Here are some beginner level videos that are more suitable than this intermediate level one: You Can Draw This - Patreon Exclusive - Christmas Tree: https://www.patreon.com/posts/44987719 Holiday Penguin: https://www.patreon.com/posts/video-tutorial-44333518 You Can Draw This - Patreon Exclusive - Desert Night: https://www.patreon.com/posts/43969950 You Can Draw This - Patreon Exclusive - Taj Mahal: https://www.patreon.com/posts/42876721 Procreate 5: The basics of Digital Painting (Skillshare): https://www.patreon.com/posts/skillshare-class-35072101 You can find an overview of the video tutorials here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/overview-29613003 All Skillshare classes in the list are available to Eager Learners.

I loved this tutorial !!! Ok its a bit confusing because you do it quickly and I had to press pause a lot, it took me like 3 hours to finish it but the result and the lesson are amazing !

Robyne Pelwan

I saw this and knew I needed to draw it (even though my hand hurts after that session). This was my first intermediate tutorial - I was initially hesitant to try it because the easy tutorials really hold your hand. But this really pushed me create something that Is my own with your guidance. Thank you for this.

Art with Flo

That's great to hear, Robyne :D Keep it up!

Somer Page

I figured it out! I had to download google drive. My apologies!

Michelle Thomas

I loved this so much - I have NO Idea how anyone could complain about this!! I have done almost all the beginner videos and I wanted to branch out - this video is a great combo of telling us what to do and letting us use our skills to makes some choices. I loved it!! thanks so much for all the hard work!

Art with Flo

Thank you so much Michelle, I'm so happy you enjoyed it!

Sarah Davey

It took me a couple days but I finally finished! I loved the steps of doing it in grayscale and adding color after 😊

Art with Flo

Awesome! I'm happy you enjoyed the process :D

Terry

I have this one in my “to do” list. I’m pretty confident and I just finished the Jar on the beach but I think a few more basic beginner ones might be needed and then I’ll tackle this! Can’t wait!
