2021 - What's to come? (Patreon)

It's a new year and it's full of opportunities and chances to learn and grow. I'm so excited about it! I have many ideas for 2021, perhaps a bit too many 🙃 Let me just share some of my thoughts and let me know what you think! I'm always open to suggestions. I always aim to improve my video tutorials, this Patreon page, my website, everything. 

Before I get started rambling about all sorts of ideas and improvements, I just want to make sure you know about the overview post, please be sure to go there if you're looking for anything. Tutorials, brushes, 'where to start', etc.

Drawing and Painting fundamentals

I want to work on a series of tutorials about drawing fundamentals, tackling differents smaller subjects or techniques. These videos will be less about following a tutorial from start to finish and ending up with a finished painting, but more about, well.. like I said, the fundamentals. I was thinking about a series about sketching, in which we will slowly work our way up from sketching simple forms to sketching more complicated subjects and eventually combining references to create a unique sketch.

Other fundamental classes would be about understanding values for instance, working with color, lighting, etc. And classes about a range of subjects, like painting clouds, water/waves, trees, grass and bushes, etc.

I think all of these classes will keep be busy for a whole year 😅

Upgrading the Overview

When adding these fundamental classes, I also want to upgrade the overview post, changing the visuals and rebuilding the structure. Making it easier to find what you need. I'll group different fundamental lessons for instance and all of the Patreon Exclusive You Can Draw This videos will be grouped as well. I'm also thinking of making groups for landscapes, portrait stuff, still life, etc. But if you have ideas, please share them 😊

Since we have hit 2500 patrons, it's time to celebrate of course! I'm working on a special brush set full of brushes I love. These will be exclusive brushes which will only be available for patrons. I want them to be perfect, so I'm taking this month to develop and tweak them. In February they will be shared with all patrons.

New sort of YouTube video

I'm playing with the idea of a new type of YouTube video (it won't replace the YCDT series, it'll be additional). In the videos I'd like to tackle common Procreate drawing/painting issues. People will be able to send in their work and tell their issue (it should be a relatively simple issue, not a blank canvas with the question "how do I turn this into a realistic landscape?"). It should be things I can explain or fix in a couple of minutes. I'd like to start with patron entries only and if the video is a success, I might expand beyond. But that really depends on how doable it is.

Live sessions

In the second half of this year (when I have totally settled in my new house and new recording studio - a closet under the stairs 🤣), I want to start doing Patreon exclusive live sessions. I have various ideas for these sessions, like a paint along for example, where we could paint the same subject together with a time limit. We could also do feedback/paintover sessions. You could send in artwork for these sessions and during the session I would talk about your artwork, give tips/ideas and paint over it. 

Merch and Prints

I'm also playing with the idea of more merch and prints. Patreon offers the possibility of sending merch to patrons after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months for instance. These could be stickers, mugs, t shirts, etc. To offer this, I'd have to make a separate tier though, at a higher price, to cover the costs of the merch. I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in exclusive merch though.

I'm also thinking about selling prints. I've seen many of my designs being stolen and sold on print on demand websites. Perhaps it's time I open my own shop 😅

I got some other exciting ideas as well, but I guess we'll find out what plans will unfold in the coming months 😉
