In this advanced level video, I will show you the process of painting this spring forest landscape. I mostly used the Flotastic brushesfor this piece. (you can find all the brushes through this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/44839717 )
I have attached the color palette and reference images to this post. You can download the layered PSD file here, in case you want to take a closer look.
This is an advanced level tutorial, because it's not a straight forward step by step tutorial, it's me messing around and telling you about my process mostly. When I create landscape paintings (or just about any painting), I usually experiment and mess around, trying to find the look I'm aiming for. I have recorded and narrated 95% of the painting process. I have screen captured the final phase in which I tweaked things and added more details. I have put the screen recording at the end of the video, you can always speed it up if it's going to slow :)
In the end I decided to blur a part of the painting, using Gaussian blur set to pencil. I blurred the direct foreground and a part of the mid ground. This made sure there was more focus on that little hill with flowers. You can direct the eye to certain parts of your painting, by making that area more crisp looking than others.
I hope you'll enjoy seeing this process. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask, I'm here to help!
The reference photos are from Shutterstock, feel free to use it for practice purposes (you just can't use it for commercial purposes like selling prints ;))
