This is Flo's Fundamentals! In this series I show how you can paint different fundamental subjects. Pieces of the puzzle you can use in your digital paintings. In this fifth class we'll be diving into the subject of fabric!

In the first part of the video, I'll talk about the theory. What are the characteristics of different types of fabric? Fabric can vary in weight, texture, thickness, reflectiveness, etc. How do you recognize these characteristics and how can we translate them to our paintings?

In the second part of the video, I'll be doing a demonstration and show you how I approach painting fabric and clothing. I've attached the study file, you can use it to both check my work up close and to make your own study. I have also attached the working files of the other studies I did, before recording this video. In the files you can see the steps I took to get to the end result.

I would also recommend checking out my Pinterest Board with fabric and clothing reference images. Try making studies from different reference images to improve your fabric painting skills! And if you ever struggle or have questions, please feel free to reach out. I'm here to help!

I've attached the Noizy brush I used during the demonstration, if you want to get any fabric brushes, you can get them here: https://gumroad.com/l/procreatefashionbrushes

The next Flo's Fundamentals will be about painting trees!

Hi Flo, this was fabulous. Thank you so much❤️

Mari Mojica

Wow. This is really amazing! Not quite ready for this yet. Lol

This is amazing. Thank you! Can I please ask with the denim shorts.. did you use a denim texture brush? If so, which step did you do it? I’m not sure if I missed it in your tutorial Thank you 💜💜

I used a denim texture brush right after laying down the base colors and some dark and light patches. I blended those dark and light spots a bit and then added the texture on top in a few places. I used the Flo Darka, Flo Lighta and the lighten and darken line brushes on top, so the texture would still be visible

Oh awesome! I understand now. Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I have a few denim brushes, so will play around will those. Thank you! 💜🌸

These are so fun, and my daughter loves following along with you!

For the denim shorts, could you tell me which denim texture brush you used? I think I only have one (not one of yours) and I find the texture is too coarse. Thank you. (BTW - I love your Sketching and your Fundamentals tutorials! Doing the exercises is reawakening those muscles 😀)

I used the Denim Texture brush from my fabric brush pack

Thank you. Brushes ordered.😊
