July in Review (Patreon)
Content
The end of the month is here again, I hope you all had a lovely one. Thank you all so much for your (continued) support! ❤️ I really enjoyed creating this month's tutorials, like the new Pick a Ref video and the feedback session. I'm constantly working on improving and evolving this community and what I offer and I've got some ideas for the future. Some things might work and some things perhaps won't, so always feel free to give feedback, I appreciate that.
I've seen quite some artists around me nearly break under the pressure and that has made me extra aware I need to be cautious, especially after two years without a proper break. For the coming months I'm going to try and get a clearer focus of what I want to offer in the coming years. I might pop in a poll every now and then to hear your opinions.
To make improvements, I've also started on making an overview of Patreon tutorials on my website. It's not finished yet, but I've made a start by adding an overview of beginner level tutorials (there might still be a few missing, but I'm working on it). You can check the overview HERE.
But for now, let's look back on the tutorials of this month (click the titles to go to the tutorial directly)! I shared a new Sketching Class and I launched a brand new Skillshare class, but of course I also shared the first Pick a Ref tutorial and a assignment feedback video.
If you are searching for something or if anything is unclear, please go to the download post for Eager Learners + Master Students or the download post for Superfans to get brushes and info about how Patreon works.
NOTE: All Master Students will get a new discount code for August in their email inbox, it'll be send through Patreon. If you can't find it, be sure to check you spam folder.
Tutorials
You all voted for this reference image to turn it into a tutorial video. It was a lot of fun! I hope you enjoyed the process as well. I have sure seen a lot of awesome results.
Learn to Sketch! - Lesson 7 - Landscapes
This month's sketching class was all about sketching landscapes. I showed you how you can start with a bunch of thumbnails to explore compositions and use that thumbnail to create a full landscape sketch.
I have shared the first assignment feedback video. I'm not sure if these type of assignments will stay in the future, or perhaps it might evolve into something else. Feel free to give your opinion!
In the brand new Skillshare class, we created this easy Summer Project, going through loads of Procreate features!
In this tutorial I shared the process I go through when coming up for an idea for a You Can Draw This video.
What's coming in August?
First of all you can expect the tutorial made from the reference image you voted for and the feedback video for your assignment. The Flo's Fundamentals about trees will also launch at the beginning of the month, it's almost finished! And I'm also working on something new and exciting: You Can Draw This XXL! It'll be longer and bigger than the regular YCDT videos on YouTube.
I was also featured in a podcast! As soon as it launches, I'll let you know of course.
On a personal note, due to the COVID restrictions, I won't be able to go to Paris this month. I'm hoping to be able to go on a break in October, but I'm not counting on anything anymore. For now I just try to take an afternoon off every once in a while.
Don't forget that you can always check the OVERVIEW page for an overview of all of the tutorial content.
