I'm having a lot of brainstorm sessions with the team lately to decide the direction we want to move in the coming years and what should become our main focus. I feel like I'm having so many ideas, plans and things I want to offer, I might get in over my head. That's why I'll run a poll by you every once in a while to help me find the focus I need.

So what I'd like to ask you; what level of difficulty do you prefer when it comes to tutorial videos? One of our ideas is to offer more beginner friendly, YCDT type of content (but with bigger/longer projects).

Feel free to share your thoughts!

I like all your tutorials and videos. You seem to understand how to translate the “how to” as well as maintaining your own creative process.

Deborah MacBain

Beginner please. I still need lots of details and I enjoy learning another piece of the puzzle with each of your videos.

Wendy Dresser

Hi Flo, I don't want to completely lose the step by step, but lately I've found a few where you give more insight into the brushes and how to get the most from them which has been a game changer. For example, not lifting the pen with watercolor brushes.

Sharon D

While I think a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced is good, I don’t want to lose having new advanced projects - they give us something to work towards after doing lots of beginning and intermediate tutorials.

Kasia

Advanced. Challenging but I learn a lot.

MariaQ

Love all your videos regardless of the level. However, I like the challenge of working on the Advanced level, though Intermediate can also be challenging. Thank you for your dedication in keeping us inspired!

Taler

One of my biggest pushes and wants to follow you was the fact your tutorials were very descriptive and detailed. Not many others do that, so it’s hard to come by. I absolutely loved it, it’s what helped me so much.

Sarah

I’ve been learning from you for almost a year now and now that I have a better understanding of how the brushes work etc, I would like more steps involved in the advanced/intermediate videos please :) just more to see where exactly I can improve on things if that makes sense. I know I’m capable of the more challenging stuff and it would be nice to have a little more step by step instruction just for my own initial reassurance :D

Tommy Nagayama

It is difficult to choose one of these options. I think all the current contents (beginner, intermidiate and advanced) are very useful. Some times I need to understand basic techniques through beginner lessons and other times I need to learn more advanced techniques so that I can improve my skill. So I am farily satisfied with the current format. And variety of contents is also very nice. I can learn landscape, still life, portrait. I love this current lesson style very much!

Michelle Ream

I'm an artist that is fairly new to digital illustrations so your videos have made a huge impact on me and I will always refer to them but I think I'm ready to see a little more intermediate level stuff as well, like the different techniques or how/why something does what it does. You are really great about explaining all of that already and I greatly appreciate that. Keep up the amazing work!

Janice H.

I like the tutorials where you provide really detailed instructions on how you produce each effect. You are so good at introducing a variety of techniques in each relatively simple tutorial, and the thing I like best is the way you show exactly how you did it. I absolutely love it where you include a color and brush palette so I don't have to think about that part while keeping up with you. I'm much less interested in advanced stuff - that's not helpful at my stage of learning. You do an excellent job - thank you so much.

Kathy Sierra

I didn't read all the comments, so if this is a repeat idea I apologize. Maybe consider cycling through all three levels (as there are new to Procreate people that probably are joining all the time). That way each quarter of the year there is a beginner, intermediate and advanced. At the end of the year there would be four in each level. Keeps everyone pushing to move up.

Donna Hut

I feel like I learn something different from each level so I would like to see some beginners, lots of intermediate, and some advanced.

Paul D

I still feel you should keep all the options. I can handle advanced level but sometimes I enjoy some of your beginner level tutorials because I like the image you choose to draw.

Tracey Kramer

I enjoy all your tutorials! Being new to the digital arts, I need step by step and more insight into the hows and why's of many brushes and tools we can use. Thank you for all you do.

Gianna Taliercio

You should definitely keep beginner levels and do more of them. You should make longer ycdt tutorials I think it’s great!!

Mary Hinkle

I am a beginner and older so I do better with the slower paced, full guided tutorials. When I try to do anything but the beginners I end up rewinding, rewinding, rewinding and it takes hours to do a simple drawing. I know as I do more I will get better but it sure is a challenge. Thanks Flo for being you and for having such a wonderful platform and opportunity for folks like me.

Donald Bunting

Hi Flo, I am very new to art. However I enjoy tutorials that challenge me and move me forward with each tutorial. I love landscape with colors. Love your dedication Don

Paul Elliott

Have to admit, I'm awkward. I would love the advanced projects with the beginner instruction style. I love working along with you, time is not really a consideration. Thanks.

Zelly

More advanced… please ♥️

Nicole Golden

I stared with the YCDT videos last summer & by now I’m really comfortable with the intermediate ones. But I do like to do the advanced ones for a bit of a challenge. And I also enjoy the beginner ones. I like them all really :)

Manna Mark Books

Your step-by-step instructions are fabulous, Flo. Whatever level, I appreciate the detail.

Gryphon Ronas

I chose Intermediate, but I also loved the Butterfly recently. The recent still life was IMO your best ever, I commented at the time that you created a feeling of hanging out 1 on 1 and watching you paint while chatting about what you were doing. YCDT is what brought me here and I still love them. For me, it's a lot about subject matter. Things like the toaster, pancakes, things that would look at home in a book for children, I usually don't even watch.

Caitlyn S

Maybe a blend of different levels ? If that’s feasible obvi. I like being able to do something simple when I feel myself in a rut but when I want a challenge I like the advanced stuff. Tho I’m still pretty new w procreate still

Crystal Gray

I agree with other comments. If an option, a mixture of levels would be great. I love the advanced level but I will admit a simple beginner tutorial is just as great. Flo, basically any level you put out, I’m satisfied!! 😁

mikkisha Caldwell

I agree with the above, I really love pushing myself with the advanced projects, but sometimes it's nice to take a break and do something simple and beautiful. I think you're the only artist that offers such variety and is so well organized. The variety is why I am here now :)

Katherine Walters

I would definitely like less step-by-step, and more discussion of the principles. I find with a focus on just step-by-step, I don't always gain an understanding of why things are done that way. If I'm shown how to draw a box, and told this is where the lines go, this is where the shading goes, this is what the details are, this is where the highlight is, etc...then great, now I can replicate that box a bunch of times. But, if I want to draw a different box, I may not understand how to apply those steps if I don't understand WHY those were the steps. Why was the shading put there? Why were the lines put where they were? Why were those details used? I've learned so much from Flo and I absolutely love all the tutorials, but I also want to learn how to draw better when doing my own original art. And I think the learning process goes faster when there is both an understanding of the steps, but also why those are the steps used and the principles behind them.

Susan Carpet

I love the mixture! Right now I'm somewhere between intermediate and advanced but sometimes love to follow along with some of the more simple drawings - they build my confidence! The beginners tutorials were so very valuable to me when I was first learning but now I'm ready to stretch my wings a bit more and more!

Is it possible to know the skill level of your patrons and adjust the content to the general skill level. For example if 80% are beginning artists and procreate users you could tailor 60-80% of your content to them and adjust the rest of the content accordingly, or if you have more skilled artist but those artist are less skilled with the Procreate app, you could adjust the tutorials to have more advanced artistic concepts but more basic Procreate utilization.

Tessa Frazzoni

I just love clear step by step instructions. I know people with advanced skill don’t really need that but as a beginner I like having lots of guidance, and i think having that in more complicated pieces would really grow my skills :)

Sally

Hi Flo, please keep making advance tutorials with detailed steps! These are the videos that inspire me the most from your account.

La

I am sincerely here to learn from scratch.

Vicki Morrow

I am not as excited about the YCDT videos as I am the "beginner" tutorials that you have on Patreon. I agree with a lot of the others. I like the easier ones to do fairly quickly but I am getting to the point that I want to spend more time on the Advanced ones. I really like the food and realistic ones. I guess a mix is fine. If I don't like a new tutorial, I go to the Patreon list and pick out a more advanced one to work on.

Staggering Chaos

I really love digging into the advanced videos. I understand most of the votes going to beginning and intermediate but I hope you will still do some advanced tutorials.

FaroreNightclaw

I haven’t had a chance to watch a lot of the content here yet (I’m really bad at setting time aside to look at videos) but i can say as a professional artist i have zero in interest in the step-by-step ‘you can draw this too’ videos. I want to learn theory and skill building, not how to replicate a specific image.

Angel

Hi Flo, I like your beginner tutorials for now. I have learned a lot and am getting to the point where things start to click in my mind. That way I can start using it for my own drawings. In any tutorial the “why” would be great when we do things. I am getting to the point where I consider the intermediate videos and hope to move on to advanced. The one thing that holds me back is that some projects are really long video’s and I do not always have that much time. A bigger project served up in parts over several months would be real good for me. Now I am still working on the colorful houses and just keep track to where I came working on it, but there is no satisfaction of having finished something. That is what I love about the YCDT videos. Also I sometimes slow the speed down to 0.75 that way I don’t have to pause and rewind so much. I watch, see you select something, do that too and you have already done 1 or 2 other things. So, slowing down helps. In general : I LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS 😃

Dee

Beginner!

Gakkie GakkieNL

There are a LOT of beginner tutorials out there. Yours are among the best, but personally I think one can do only so much beginner tutorials before stalling. Progress is made in intermediate and advanced tutorials, so I ticked the intermediate box! In dept, step by step makes for great learning!

Rachel Carlisle

I'm here because of your "you can draw this" tutorials on youtube, they are among the best on there imo! You have helped me SO MUCH with figuring out procreate, so I just wanted to drop some encouragement. I chose both beginner and intermediate :)

El Pintor

I think intermediate would be best.

shay emanuela

I would probably like the intermediate. But also mixing beginners and intermediate will work too. And some Advance will be welcomed too, thanks

Tay

Everything you make is amazing! I appreciate you and the hard work you put in to help us! I love the less realistic drawings! Of course your realistic drawing are amazing, I’m just not quite ready for that yet. Thank you!!

Trenna Sonnenschein

I am kind of a mixed bag. I am a photographer that knows how to use Photoshop pretty well but I just started to learn digital art last month. So I don’t need explanation so much on how layers and masks work, but at this point I do need to know more of the Artistry side of things. I’m not a good artist if I have to draw on paper but I’m hoping I can become a good digital artist with the help that Procreate can give me. I have followed several artist but I find yours the most helpful to me personally.

Art with Flo

You're totally right about that! I will keep trying to offer a good mixture.

Monica Raven

I think there is room for all three - so I’ve added all three! When I was starting with Procreate, sometimes your tutorials went a little quickly for me, and I couldn’t keep up. As people learn the app, it is nice to move onto more complicated stuff, so I think having a balance of mostly beginner and intermediate with one or two advanced ones a month would be amazing. <3 thanks for the chance to give feedback. I’m so impressed with what you do, and your generosity is amazing. Xxx

Swati sharma

For now I prefer step by step especially with intermediate and advanced level paintings not with basic one… that is one of the best thing I like in your videos

Mel Love

I’m very new
