During this intermediate level tutorial we'll be creating a realistic looking light bulb. We'll be making use of the selection tool to get crisp edges for our bulb and use a variety of brushes to get a nice shiny effect. You'll find a brush pack with all the brushes used attached to this post, along with the color palette.

Have fun!

How do you get stable, curved selections using the freehand selection tool? I have shaky hands and can't seem to find a good workaround 😭

Thank you Flo, for this one.. I miss your paitings from real life videos, especially those of food! 👍🏻

Kristen

This is my favorite tutorial thus far! Thank you, Flo, for sharing this process. I’m looking forward to more realistic illustrations!

I'm so happy to hear that. I surely plan to make more tutorials like this in the coming months.

My pleasure! I plan to do realistic food tutorials too in the coming months. 👍🏻

Marie

This is amazing!! Thank you, Flo!

Hi flo! New Patreon here. Don’t know why when I click in the brush set and swatches attachment don’t download the items. I am so into this tutorial but I can’t download the tools to work it with

Claudia Saucedo

Hi. New as well. Same problem. I don’t know how to download.

Please make sure you use a browser in stead of the Patreon app, it won't let you download post attachments unfortunately

A workaround would be to create the lines/shapes using a brush on a different layer and then using that to make an automatic selection 🤷‍♀️

Cool man😊

I really enjoyed doing the light bulb. However, I got lost when going the third group. Then when merging I don’t know what I did. I could not find a way to go back. Also, some of my brushes were not as thin as yours. However, I really enjoyed it. I might do it again.

I have a problem.Your links for the brushes and colors won‘t open.

Claudia Saucedo

Go to a browser. Safari, chrome. Download from there. That's how I was able to do it.

I think using a stock sketch would be easier for some. It would help with curving something like light which requires precision. This was harder to follow. I do like light tutorials so if you’re new, try some from earlier. You can learn light coloring and shading. That was helpful for me.

Art with Flo

I saw many great results already though 👍🏻 And for sketching and measuring, I'd recommend checking the Sketching classes here at Patreon 😊

One of my favorites so far! I had so much fun "aging" the bulb. Looooved this!

Hahaha fast and furious. Really fast. But really great. I am always amazed of the result. I am struggling all long to keep up the speed, stop the vidéo think really fast what brush where what color. And at the end looking and saying. Woaw. I did that…. Flo you are a magician.

Your colours always look different from what I get. Not sure how to fix.

I’m in the same colour profile as you. But someone else pointed out it’s the video. They pointed out your finished piece you display & mine were the same colours, but for some reason, when I play your videos, they tend to skew darker & redder. So, pretty sure that’s a compression issue & since I haven’t done much with videos, I didn’t realise it was happening. But issue solved! Plus that video you point out you are recording & have lighting set ups & more. So, on me for not looking at the art you post & only comparing to the video. LOL sorry.

No problem at all, you are not the only one with this experience 😉

Hi Flo! Does this have a reference photo?
