This is part 1 of a two part tutorial in which we will create a character together. In this first part we'll create a sketch of our character and talk about proportions. In the next part, which will launch next week, we'll render our character in two different styles.

I'd really recommend looking up examples from different artists and look at how they draw and render their characters, you can find loads of inspiration and use that to develop your own style.

I hope you'll have loads of fun creating your own characters. Be sure to let me know what you think of this tutorial and if you want to work on creating more stylised character drawings.

Wonder why the Flotastic Sketcher isn’t in my treasure chest. I checked on the list but didn’t see it.

I've always had trouble deciding whether I should use the Symmetry tool in ProCreate to create a perfectly symmetrical face, or whether to draw it by hand even if the sketch is a little off. What would you suggest, Ms. Flo?

Angelika Wild

A very good and simple "how to do" video ❤️ I hope you make a tutorial with a body too.

The symmetry tool can be a great help, but drawing by hand can be a great exercise. It can help to flip your canvas every once in a while to fix mistakes.

Hi, Ms. Flo! Thank you for such perfect instructions. Are there any plans of doing SIDE & HALF-SIDE poses for faces?

Great lesson, thanks! Started the outline of a fun character profile for my book series 😃 They've got orange & purple skin + a mohawk. It's great being able to incorporate your teachings into my storytelling. Makes for awesome digital-art practice, cheers 🙏🏽 I'll share the piece on IG when it's finished ❤️

Hi Susan! Yes, I definitely want to do something similar for side and half-side faces.

I am very impatient to do this one. I would love a tuto with the face and the hands. Like holding a cup of coffee.

Hi. When I try and rotate my head with my apple pencil i can’t get it to rotate to less than 15 degrees. I see I can manually input a number but you are doing it with the pencil. Is there a setting I need to adjust to allow me to use my pencil for smaller increments?

Kathleen C

I just figured it out. I turned off magnetic in settings and it worked.
