I am meeting with the sister missionaries twice a week and I would love to know the answer to why it is only hot cafinated beverages the LDS religion can not have. For me as a “Mormon” I try and stay away from caffeine as much as I can cause I put it in a category of addictive substances, like I’ve seen people who can’t go without an energy drink or some sort of caffeine, I don’t wanna be dependent on it

How cool, sisters are wonderful. I’d invite you to get the whole story but I can also help! Joseph Smith used to host a “School of Prophets” which was really a Sunday school for the men but not on Sunday. Well, his wife rightfully complained about scrubbing chewed tobacco from the floors after every class, so Joseph inquired the Lord in prayer about the topic. The result is Doctrine & Covenants section 89 (you can find it online!) Which details out the Word of Wisdom and The Why behind it. Specifically its verses 4-9, Grok pulled it up for me! (X’s ai is very knowledgeable in the doctrine of lds, feel free to ask there too then verify with the sisters!) The simple answer caffeine is a drug(we know this) how much will you let it affect you or control you? You get the power to choose with God what we each have the capacity to achieve. Choice is key, we’re commanded by obedience but we still make the choice of how or why we follow. While LDS doctrine has a lot of “rules” we view them as freedom, sure alcohol is fun, but most people get tired of it and then feel so much better when they quit, wouldn’t it be better to just never drink? However, if we break rules it doesn’t mean we’re evil or facing huge consequences (outside of breaking actual law, or abuse in any form) We are sent to earth to learn and be tested. No one is perfect, it’s how we choose to better ourselves, take care of our health, and grow closer to God that really matters. All the “rules” are just tools. I'm Mormon but I drink monsters & redbull’s but its not really an “exception” from a rule. It’s actually more like a guideline to help you live your life. It’s to avoid addiction of not just caffeine, but really any substances. But Connor is right they’re definitely are some people that drink caffeinated drinks like crazy. But there is no rule that says that we are not allowed to drink caffeine.

Caffeine isn't an issue, its tobacco and alcohol. Tobacco was used for a lot of things during the 1830s, such as bruises and cattle (Doctrine & Covenants 89:1-9). it does mention hot drinks, but it does not go into detail as to which, such as coffee or tea.

Lol, clarification for the mormon thing, caffeine isn't necessarily bad. Unless it's hot. No tea, no coffee. I think all the mormon colleges are sponsored by Coke now to be honest. Hella weird rules but their mostly for a "health" perspective.
