I finally decided to dive into the first John Wick movie after so many recommendations here and on YouTube during my journey through The Matrix. And when I realized Keanu Reeves was the lead, it immediately shot to the top of my watchlist! Going in, I expected a lot of action (Keanu pretty much guarantees that, right?), but I definitely wasn't prepared for just how much this film would hit me. Emotionally and visually. John's loss wasn't just a plot device. It was raw, aching, and seeped into every decision he made from start to finish. There was something almost poetic in the way he moved through the world. Each action calculated and precise yet carrying the weight of grief that never let him go. Even in the middle of chaos and violence, you could feel his quiet, haunted presence. You could see it in his eyes. It made every fight and every choice feel both epic and heartbreaking. The music was INCREDIBLE. You all know how much I love when a movie showcases music at the front and center of its overall vibe and this movie did it perfectly. The soundtrack gave a pulsing, almost hypnotic energy that went perfectly with the cold neon-lit world John navigated on his seek for revenge. It made every fight scene feel like a dark ballet. I was absolutely mesmerized by the color palette, pacing, and choreography!I went into this expecting an epic action movie, but what I got instead was sooo much more. A dark, gripping study of grief, loss, and the ways we navigate a world that keeps moving along even when we're broken. By the end, I was left both exhilarated and surprisingly moved. This film makes you really sit with loneliness, loyalty, and the ways that dark choices can shape a life. Often in ways you can't escape forever.Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿LINK: https://youtu.be/2_r-KByX51II watched this on Disney+ with my Hulu Add-On Subscription

Love this film! Looking forward to watching your reaction Kali!

Welcome to the world of John Wick and the definitive motivation, your no longer a summer child Kali 🤭🤭🤭💝

Lets goooooo!

$%&#ing-A. This is a great film series. Just pure action--done right--but with spectacular world-building, actors, and an emotional core. I also greatly enjoyed the Ballerina movie with Ana de Armas. Stunt-loaded movies made by stunt people. Good shit.

TheJoeKerr

I would definitely go John Wick on anyone who would kill my dog.

Chris

The rare series where if you ask four people which is their favorite, you’re liable to get four different answers. (Wick 3, for me personally…) Once you finish these… if you like the direction and action choreography, highly recommend The Raid (and its sequel). Clear antecedents, and maybe the best, craziest action movies we’ve seen. Still. If the Wick films run, The Raid Usain-Bolt-sprinted.

This movie has such a wild first 25 minutes. We see the ending as the opening scene, get heartbroken seeing him lose his wife, get some joy seeing his dog, get slightly confused when he speaks Russian and then heartbroken again when the dog is killed. All in the first 15 minutes and we still don't even fully know what is going on or who this guy is. Then in the next 5 minutes we get some breadcrumbs when the son tries to sell the car but then finally we understand and all get goosebumps when we are told the Baba Yaga story. I never get sick of watching this movie. It's just so well done, with the music and the lighting. It plays on the whole "secret society" thing which is always fun. Even the fight scenes are great and different, they often feel a lot more raw and visceral then most movies. The fight choreography really feels like two humans fighting for survival, nothing flashy just pure will to live. Look forward to watching the next 3 as well. Truly hard to decide which one is my favourite. Once you finish up the franchise you should add Constantine (2005) to your watchlist for another good Keanu Reeves movie. And a little fun fact for you, the guy playing the doctor in this movie is the same guy that played The Keymaker in The Matrix Reloaded.

Danny

there are a lot of good stories about how great Keanu Reeves is, but my favorite was told by Lance Reddick who plays the hotel manager. He said "My first day of filming happened to be Keanu's birthday. But he wasn't in the scene. He came to the set anyway at nine o'clock at night with his girlfriend who I had never met. His girlfriend is cool as f***. And she told me that she asked Keanu what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said: 'I want to go see Lance'. "He'd never done this before but he wrote me a note thanking me for what I brought to the character in these movies. And he wanted to give the note to me. I'll never forget it. I'm going to cry now. I don't remember where I put it. I do know that I want to frame it." 😂

Lastboyscout73

I hope you don't wait too long to watch 2. Some fun surprises ahead.

For how much I love Keanu Reeves, I still don't know how I never ended up watching this movie until now lol, but here we are! And I loved this one so much! You just can't top seeing one of your favorite actors as an unstoppable force of nature LOL. And for as traumatizing as the beginning was, it made all the violence that followed feel cathartic for the viewer. That all our bottled up shock, rage, and grief could release through the fighting. Which speaking of, the music! Echoing basically what you said, I love action scenes where the music isn't just a compliment, but becomes the centerpiece of the scene itself. Each gunshot popping right on the beat, with the tempo driving John from one bad guy to the next. Loved the cars in this too! We got John driving the holy trinity of American muscle hahaha So many amazing moments, that I don't think I can pick my favorite. But John running up onto the hood of the crashed SUV with that cannon of a shotgun and blasting the driver through the windshield was just the epitome of this movie's attitude LOL. Really excited for the next one now, and I think I'll wait to watch it with your reaction once you get to it!

kaliwali

It was SO good! Way more intense and emotional than I thought haha, but the epic fight scenes and music made up for it!

kaliwali

Yesss I'm here for it!! This movie was actually amazing ❤️‍🔥🔥

kaliwali

Apparently, I need to see more action done right because this was amazing!! I loved it!

kaliwali

Oo I haven't hear do The Raid yet! I'll go ahead and add it to the action list. I'm excited to check out the Wick series tho!

kaliwali

Omg right!? The first 25 minutes felt like I ran a marathon lol. But yes this movie was soooo well done! I loved it for all the same reasons you just pointed out 🔥 I'll def add Constantine! I believe it's already tucked away on my watchlist somewhere but I saw recently that Keanu is in that one as well so it gets a little bump up the list just for that 😂 And I THOUGHT the doctor looked familiar but I couldn't place it at all lol. Thank you! The Keymaker, yes!

kaliwali

I love that! 😂 Thank you for sharing!

kaliwali

I can't' wait to watch more! This movie was actually insane

kaliwali

I still can't believe you haven't seen this one until recently knowing how much you love Keanu and these types of epic films!! I'm not surprised a bit that you absolutely loved it too 😂 I feel like Johnny Silverhand was also born in this movie which made the vibe even more awesome 😂🔥Also yes, that cannon of a shotgun sent me LOL

Marty McGee

Welcome to Gun-Fu! I mean John Wick! This first one is definitely my favorite. It's just the perfect balance of sadness, anger, dark humor, and amazing fighting and action. Love the bit with the cop. "You working again John?" "No just sorting some stuff out." "Alright then. I'll leave you to it. Goodnight John." "Goodnight Jimmy." I forget just how sad the first 20 minutes are. Dammit! Did they have to get such a cute fucking puppy?! The rest of the movie is totally justified. Especially when he talks about how the dog felt like a second chance, and he didn't have to grieve alone. The others are great too though. The rest go deeper into the world-building of this criminal assassin underground and the wild rules involved. Great stuff!

Marty McGee

Such a cool story. Lance is a great actor too. I've loved him in everything I've seen him in. Especially Fringe. RIP!

MattN

Some fun trivia, Omer Barnea (the actor who is shot playing video games at the end), and who was the character who was supposed to hurt John Wick's dog, was so upset shooting the scene that as soon as shooting would stop he'd pet and cuddle the pup. That always made me smile whenever I would watch this again. Keanu is definitely iconic in the action genre because like he did with the matrix, this movie really changed how action movies were done after this. Before this movie the director was a stunt coordinator(on a lot of Keanu's movies) and so it focused on highlighting the stunts and that definitely shows. As usual, great reaction!

Danny

Yeah, he's fantastic! He's really good in Bosch too

Wil Castillo

This was a good watch. I enjoyed watching your reaction to it. Keanu Reeves did a really good job portaying a hitman. I enjoyed watching the close-quarters combat scenes. His use of firearms seemed pretty legit, like the parts where he shoots from the hips, or how he pulls in the pistol closer when he's in confined spaces. You could tell Keanu spent so many hours at the shooting range. I've always enjoyed watching the John Wick movies, or other movies similar to it. If you want to see more movies like this after you finish watching the John Wick series, I would suggest: - Salt (2010) - Nobody (2021) - Peppermint (2018)

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Kali! This movie is awesome! But yeah, that puppy scene messes everybody up 😭 But I love the world building in this series. The world within a world. The Continental, gold coins, dinner reservations, etc… Looking forward to you watching the rest of the series! Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long Congrats on one year of reactions! That’s wonderful! I wish you nothing but success! And I’m happy to be one of your patrons Hair looks nice btw 😊

Nina

The Night Club scene is one of my favorite scenes of all time. The action, music, choreography is just mesmerizing. And Keanu doing almost all of his own stunts in his 50s, just incredible. It's one of my most rewatched scenes ❤️

Onno Smits

There is a bit of a "music video"-type vibe to this movie, isn't there? 😅 I never put that together but you nailed that with your reaction. I saw someone else recommend Constantine (2005) already, which I think you'd really enjoy! Another Keanu Reeves movie I want to mention is Speed (1994) which has great action but also romance, and is just an all-around fun reaction-type movie.

Onno Smits

With regards to: "How does it feel to get shot wearing a bullet-proof vest?": They call them ballistic vests instead of "bullet-proof" for a reason. They really aren't bullet-proof. 😅 There are different protection ratings of vests, and the calibre of the bullet is important too. Assuming a good modern vest, and I think he got shot with a Glock (9mm round) in that scene, that would cause heavy bruising and uncomfortable swelling. But yeah, you can walk away from that. A .45 calibre would cause cracked ribs and potentially internal bleeding. Hospital visit for sure. Unless you're wearing crazy plate armour, any of the slug shotguns and machine rifles they use in this movie would just go straight through the vest and kill you. Even with plate armour you'd be looking at major blunt force chest trauma if it stops the bullet.

Andy Jordan

I think the John Wick series are those rare action movies you can show to people who don't like action movies, and even if they still don't like it, they can respect it. And I agree with Chris, everyone of them is the favorite of more than a few. LOTR, the original Star Wars trilogy, and Lethal Weapon I think are the only film series that can be said about. If you want to get a sense of how weird it seemed at first to those a little older for Keanu to play these roles (Gen X here), I cannot recommend enough Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (as well as its sequels), a trilogy/series I actually think you could also say any of these are many people's favorite, as well as Parenthood, a great slice-of-life dramedy, and see how Keanu started out in his younger years known for roles so far away from Neo, Constantine and John Wick that it was a little jarring to see his first forays into the action genre, like Point Break and Speed. The Bill and Ted movies are personal favorites for me, and it would be interesting to put John Wick back-to-back with Bill and Ted and try to figure out how Keanu manages to make both polar opposites work equally well.

Paul Wright

Wow, amazing story. I remember him from Lost and the Percy Jackson show. Wonderful actor.

KJ

This honestly wouldn't be the movie it is without the intimate slow burn at the beginning, and the gradual reveal just how 'done fucked up' those Russian punks were. Great premise, and the lore building of this criminal underworld mythology.

McShades

I love that meme where Thano's subordinate tells him the snap killed John Wick's dog and Thano's going "Oh $#@%"

kaliwali

The Gun-Fu LOL That perfectly describes this movie to a T! This movie had a whole vibe that I loved so much. For all the of the same reasons you said! It just felt... epic. And I found myself completely mesmerized by John Wick in so many scenes 🤣 The first 20 minutes were absolutely brutal though. Was not expecting that from this movie at all so that was a really sad surprise 😂

kaliwali

Omg that brings a whole new layer to that scene that actually makes it bearable to think about again 🤣😂 Thank you for sharing that trivia! I was a bit wrecked at that one.. I wasn't expecting this movie to be so emotional and the first 20 minutes felt like a rollercoaster that I wanted to get off LOL. But the rest of the movie definitely made up for that sadness! It felt so epic.

kaliwali

I agree with his use of firearms too! You can tell Keanu knew how to make it feel realistic with the way he swung around corners and held the gun steady and always down sights. And thank you for those recommendations! They are all new to my list!

kaliwali

The puppy scene had me thinking I made a really bad decision in watching this lol. The first 20 minutes were brutal.. But getting past it, the rest of the movie was SO epic and good. It felt like I was put into an action trance with the music and directing and colors. So good! And thank you for the one year congrats! Sometimes it feels like so much longer because of how much I've grown as a reactor haha. But I couldn't be more happy to have such an awesome community this quickly into it all 🩷 So Thank You!

kaliwali

Yes! I think I gotta agree and call that scene my favorite too. Red Circle was epic!

kaliwali

It looks like Constantine may be coming soon with that recent poll! 👀 I honestly can't wait and I love how you all keep me on theme here with the polls LOL I haven't heard of Speed so I'll add it to my list for sure, thank you!

kaliwali

Oh man! Welp that explains why he was struggling so much. Fractured or even bruised Ribs (from what I've heard in X-Ray and how the patient acts compared to others lol) is one of the most painful places to get injured. So jeez! Thanks for sharing!

kaliwali

I would absolutely love to check out some earlier Keanu Reeves films! The films that made him who he was even in The Matrix! Thank you so much for sharing all of these suggestions. Someone else mentioned 'Speed' so I'll have to bump that one up a bit! But Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure sounds great! Thank you 🩷

kaliwali

The intimate slow burn was so dark and deep.. But yes! Definitely necessary to get the feel for who John Wick is now vs. the man everyone is terrified in the rest of the film. It brings a whole new layer to him that makes him feel epic but tragic at the same time! So good!

kaliwali

LOL I think KJ shared that in the Discord. I need to go watch it 😂

Squeesher

Baba Yaga! I love that you're going through the Keanu Cinematic Universe with Constantine likely coming up! A perfect accompanying soundtrack seems to be a requirement for Keanu Reeves, and it is very well showcased as you've seen in The Matrix and now John Wick. Can't wait for the next ones, tho I'll be here for everything else too! Currently going through your Mass Effect plays, and Detroit Become Human as you transfer it to your gaming channel. I love dynamic stories like those games provide

Black_TYGR

Welcome to the John Wick universe, Kali. You’re in for a full ride! Can’t wait for you to check out the other John wick movies and also ballerina. I just think you are an awesome person! Happy to join your channel and community.

Joshua s. Jackson

Check out "Parenthood " it's a comedy/Drama with a very young Keanu Reeves in it.

Joe Mallard

This movie doesn't waste any time drawing you in and it never lets up until the end.

Dan Gonya

His new little blue nose pit bull is beautiful! Great reaction!

Gabriel L

We live by a code

SmooothE🚔🚔

i’m to the point when i watch this reaction i skip over the dog scene as it really bothers me like most. Great movie and action and great reaction

SmooothE🚔🚔

you would love the Equalizer as well. Better story and overall acting with Denzel over Keanu but this beats IMO in gun battle authenticity

David L

He didn't shot him in the Red Circle because it would've been to quick. I guess you could say John likes playing with his target in this situation so he understands the hell he brought upon himself.

Chenou Yang

I can't wait til you watch the next 2

michael bunter

Wow this was my first visit with your patreon reaction videos the channels on patreon I follow I chose after seeing their reactions to this movie... It in it's first 20 minutes goes through so many emotions and the way people react to it are the people who I enjoy watching my favourite movies with.... The puppy scene is so gut wrenching from all aspects from the gift from his wife Helen to the knowledge that the puppy won't sleep on the floor forever and how he gave in hahahaha 😂😆😂 We all secretly knew that wasn't going to last... Truely it is the best revenge movie I have seen since Brandon Lee's movie the Crow... Another great movie... If you haven't already done this movie that is a reaction I would like to see you do... Now I am going to watch John Wick 2 on your channel... Greetings from a fan from the Lockyer valley in South East Queensland Australia 🦘 P.S A lot of reaction videos panic that the dog is in John Wicks car at the airport but if you notice at the service station when he is filling up his car the backseat is full of dog toys and other supplies but at the airport it is empty so I am guessing that he as a new responsible dog owner He took Daisy home first before going to the airport 👌😁👍

Walker

15 minutes into the movie. “ I hate this movie” “ How could anyone do this?” 40;min into the film, “ I love this movie” If you love dogs you experience this exact feeling every time.
