So, funny story. But I was walking into these Batman stories expecting something closer to a Spider-Man origin story. You know... a man gets bit by a bat then boom, Batman 🤣 But what I actually stepped into was something so much darker and far more layered than anything I predicted. This was a story of someone who built his own heroism, brick by painful brick. It felt like a myth being forged in the shadows. Every line hit deeply. Every note that Hans Zimmer blasted us with shot straight through my heart. There was so much weight here. Trauma. Fear. And the courage to not run from it but instead to become it was so inspirational! I found myself completely swept up in Bruce's journey. I love how the line from V for Vendetta rang so true here. Ideas are bulletproof. And Bruce didn't just become a symbol but also chose what that symbol should really mean. It wasn't flashy. It wasn't destiny handed to him on a silver platter. It was earned through heartbreak, discipline, sacrifice, and a whole lot of internal wrestling on what is right vs wrong. It was a character study at its core. And it punched through the darkness with flickers of hope in the most intense ways. The atmosphere the entire time felt thick. Poetic. A city gasping for redemption, a man learning to breathe through his own wounds to save it, and a story that tells us fear isn't a curse. It's a compass to greatness if you let it.I came here because you all told me I need to watch this trilogy. But I left feeling like I was a fan all along. We watched a legend being born from the shadows. I'm so glad all of my expectations were blown out of the water completely in the best ways. See you all in the next one! I can't wait!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/Dw7swnnhNDEI watched this on HBO Max

The dark knight next, another super duper awesome sequel! Aliens, The Dark Knight, and T2. My top 3 sequels! (dont come for me godfather and empire bros)

The Dingo

I am shocked you didn't know Batman's origin! Honestly, I thought it was so pervasive in the zeitgest that everyone knew - now I can't wait to watch this! Also, Dark Knight is to Batman Begins what T2 was to T1, in that both Dark Knight and T2 far exceed the originals in quality, which is hard to do in both cases!

KJ

I never want to overhype movies because taste is always so subjective, and too many fans who follow reactors fall foul of looking for confirmation bias. I'm fairly confident in saying if you loved this, you'll be enthralled by the sequel - much like you were going from The Terminator to T2 ☺️

TheJoeKerr

I still remember watching this in the theaters with my dad when I was a young kid. Freaking amazing cast and best origin story in my opinion. The line in this movie that always gets me is at the end: Gordon “I never said thank you” Batman “And you’ll never have to” chills every time.

Other Chris

Im so glad you're getting into this trilogy! I was feeling the absence of Andor but the hits keep on coming! This was probably my discovery of Zimmer and I love this movie for that. I loved the performances of Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Liam Neeson. Plus Ken Watanabe from The last Samurai! Absolutely everyone in this movie was on point. I can't wait until TDK. lets goooo Btw: you are very perceptive and that’s one of the reasons I enjoy watching along. With the amount of times I’ve seen this movie, I wouldn’t think I could catch anything new. But there’s always something that you catch that I’ve missed. Like the seating positions and perspective changing up and down when they turned sharply. That’s the sort of little things that make it immersive and probably took a lot of extra effort to pull off when filming and Im sure filmmakers are proud when those brief moments are noticed and appreciated. I think Nolan in particular has a knack for going extra to get the shot.

Bernie Zwicky

I’m so glad you enjoyed this one…it’s by far my favorite Batman movie, because of everything you said! It really makes you feel how much work and sacrifice went into becoming this epic character!😊❤️

Robert da Spruce

Excited you’re starting this trilogy Kali! Can’t wait to watch your reaction to the opening chapter tonight!

JoneZ

These are some of the best movies ever made if you ask me, Nolans best movies, gonna be a fantastic watch. But to answer one of your early questions; no Batman does not have any super strength or super powers at all, that is what makes him so incredible, he is just Bruce Wayne in disguise.

Nina

Nolan really is a genius. Also: Gary Oldman, the greatest actor in existence is in this movie 🥰💖

Wil Castillo

Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest directors of all time and Hans Zimmer is a master composer who knows how to build up excitement in these films. The list of legendary cast was also great. This is the best Batman, in my opinion. This was such a good reaction and I can't wait for the next one. And also, this is no spoiler, but you should know that for the next one, Rachel Dawes is played by a different actress.

George Roybal

As Fandom stated, the Origin story of Batman in DC Comics is not this version. Although this one is extremely good as is the trilogy.

Kristoffer

I really think its essentiel for you to know, that Rachels actor has been recast for the next movie.

KJ

My favourite part of your reaction was when you first said Dr Crane has such a punchable face 🤣 I'm kind of glad you watched this in the evening because of its darker aesthetic ☺️

Richard

That’s great you enjoyed your foray into Batman’s story. You always enjoy the ones that make you think AND feel.

Kristoffer

Batman Begins... what a movie, in my opinion best superhero origin movie of all time! And this next movie "The Dark Knight" Is actually the best rated Superhero Movie of all time, and trust me they back it up. Kali you are about to witness one of the best preformances in ANY movie EVER, in this next movie... RIP Heath Ledger 🕊️

Amko Basic

I love this trilogy so much even though Christian bale is not my favorite batman 😁 can't wait until next week!

Giancarlo Gasparin

Hans Zimmer was absolutely in his bag for this entire trilogy. Truly the GOAT.

Darian Harman

This film left audiences talking in excitement. The next film left audiences stunned in absolute silence (in my personal experience, back in 2008).

La Baanga

I love that Christopher Nolan tried to make a (in comic book terms) plausible universe for this version of Batman, with every action having a consequence, and realistic versions of characters who were in the comics more fantastical. It almost feels like watching the real events that inspired the comics, which added the supernatural angles amidst other embellishments.

Giancarlo Gasparin

The writing in this movie was absolutely top tier.  "...I know the rage that drives you. That impossible anger strangling the grief, until the memory of your loved one is just...poison in your veins. And one day, you catch yourself wishing the person you loved had never existed, so you'd be spared your pain." I almost forgot what a great addition Liam Neeson was to this already stacked cast. But these lines hit different now knowing that his wife would die so tragically just a few years after this movie came out :-(

M1 Maz

This was so good!! And this is exactly why I love following your reaction journey so much - that it's allowed me to finally experience some of these movies that I know I should have watched so long ago but never got around to. How could Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, and Hans Zimmer all come together and it *not* be a masterpiece! I've heard so many in the past say that this trilogy isn't just great superhero movies, they're legendary movies in general, and now I get it. Everything hit so hard, it was a superhero journey that wasn't outer-worldly or magical, but it was real, and it was moving. I love the way the concept of fear was woven through this story, and how it was harnessed. For the pursuit of good, and for evil Of course, I can't let a Hans Zimmer score go by without raving about it haha. His themes, be it Interstellar, Dune, or this one always have this ticking sense of anticipation building in them, until it finally fully releases, and hits you with its grandeur. He knows how to make the music the support when it's needed, and the main character when it's called upon. So good! Also, the Batmobile, and the freakin' car chase!! Love that thing. It's almost like a tank had a child with a motorcycle with the way it leans, and the forward driving position haha. I'm so glad you pulled these movies ahead to watch them now, and can't wait to experience the next two with you! Also, the Batman games have been on my backlog to play for a while, and I feel like I have to pull them ahead now!

AzraRillian

You should definitely treat yourself to playing the batman video games, especially the Arkham Asylum game and sequels. They're so good, and great introductions to many of the comic characters, plus it features some *amazing* voice cast, such as Mark Hamill as The Joker.

Nina

Crane is played by the great Cillian Murphy! He won the oscar last year for playing the lead in Oppenheimer - Nolan's latest movie 💖 He works with Nolan A LOT! Btw Crane / Scarecrow uses fear just like Bruce/Batman does to intimidate people. Fear is really the main theme of the movie ❤

Łukasz Jarczewski

She hasn't seen Inception yet. She admitted that it's her first film with Cillian Murphy.

Fred Aczon

The cool thing about Batman, is that he's one of the few superheroes that can exist in different genres and tones, and they are all equally valid and have value. Batman 66 is absurdist camp, 89 is gothic whimsy, and the 90s movies prior to this, exist purely to sell toys to kids. This was the first true modern take on Batman that fans have been waiting for (is 20 years ago still modern?) DC was very fortunate that Chris Nolan's vision has reinvigorated and continued this franchise to such critical acclaim.

Nina

oh ok thanx 🙂

Hefty517

Glad you enjoyed it! Like some other people have already said, this differs in a lot of ways from the comics, but the main themes and concepts are intact. What I really like about this trilogy is that they took the core soul of the Batman franchise and grounded it in a way that hadn’t really been done before. There’s always been some sense of campiness or silliness in Batman adaptations before, but this one made it as realistic as it could be. I say this as praise for the Nolan trilogy, but also a word of caution about other adaptations you may watch in the future: while other attempts have their merits and can be very fun, they won’t have this same tone.

Fred Aczon

One tiny detail that he does that I love, is that when you see Gordon the second time, in modern day with Flass, you can tell he's so tired and disillusioned with the force, with all the crime and corruption he's been through. And in the final scene on the rooftop he's got hope and idealism again.

Jose Morales

Although I'm excited for you to jump into the X-Men movies, I'm glad you watched and enjoyed this movie. Loved this movie when it came out, and I loved the next one more. Can't wait for that reaction.

Nina

This trilogy is nothing like The MCU or any other of the DC movies. That's because Chris Nolan takes the most realistic approach at a superhero movie. The dark knight still resides at number 4 of imdb's top 250 movies list. No Marvel movie is ever going to achieve that. A lot of my friends and family don't like superhero stuff - but they love this trilogy, because it's so much more than that. Nolan is one of the best directors working today. One of the things I love about his movies is that he uses very minimal CGI. He doesn't like it. Modern Superhero movies (MCU...) are stuffed with CGI, it looks fake and it is fake. And I get it - a bit more like a comic. But this is a more realistic version. I never liked the overuse of CGI, and it's one of the reasons why I don't enjoy a lot of modern movies anymore. I love the movies Tom Cruise makes, with real stunts. And directors like Villeneuve and Nolan that don't rely on CGI. You'll see it in other Nolan movies even more - the next two in the trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Oppenheimer. It's insane how effective it all looks if you shoot it in camera with practical effects, a great cinematographer and only use CGI when it's absolutely necessary. It's what seperates Nolan from most of the other directors. And it's a big reason why this trilogy, especially The dark knight, works for so many people who don't even like superheros.

Nina

Christian Bale is amazing. And keep in mind that in order to play this part you need to play three different characters. First: Batman of course, which is more of a symbol. Second: Bruce Wayne - the way he has to present himself in public. Arrogant, rich, a playboy who doesn't really give a f*ck about anyone. And third: Bruce Wayne, how he really is, mostly when he talks to Alfred in the Batcave or Rachel. Those are three very different roles and Christian Bale excels in all of them. It's such a layered performance. Not all actors who played Batman were able to do this as good as him.

pinkdino99

"This movie is HEAVY !" - welcome to Batman. If you want sunshine and rainbows you would be better off with Superman. But you don't really want that do you. You want to peer into the darkness... I was raised watching Batman on TV which was REALLY campy (and frikkin' awesome !) Then we had Burton's Batman which was also really campy... but also a little dark. Then we had the extremely campy Schumacher Batman (which got campier by the minute). Then came Nolan's Batman. I'd say that before this the best Batman people had seen were the far superior cartoons. This was the first movie that I walked out of the cinema after the finish, quietly joined the next queue and went in to the very next showing. The moment I decided to do this was when Bruce picked the flower on the mountain, we get that gorgeous wide shot of the glacier as Zimmer's score peaks, then that view of the League's temple. I almost cried. THIS was the Batman I'd been waiting my entire life for. I love how Bruce takes Falcone's message so to heart. That he had never "tasted desperate". That he'd have to travel a thousand miles to find someone that did not know him. Such a great origin. In the books Chill kills Batman's parents (if you watch other films it will try and give other origins). However it was not an opera. Bruce insisted that they go and watch The Mask of Zorro, so he still carried the guilt that it was his fault. You asked why every superhero origin story is based on trauma. That is certainly the fiery crucible in which heroes are forged even back to ancient legends. Another trope from Batman is that he always fails first, fails hard then comes back stronger despite being terribly injured. Batman has without question the greatest and deepest rogue's gallery in any superhero mythology. Most heroes have one or two great villains, but Batman and Gotham are stacked. I've watched this a ton, but did not realise Victor Zsasz was in it (he is the killer with all the tattoos counting his victims). Metropolis which is where Superman is set is based on New York, where-as Gotham is definitely Chicago. Bale did The Machinist before this, a film about a person with an eating disorder. He lost 62 pounds (4 1/2 stone) for that role. So for Batman he had to bulk up and put himself at 250 lbs. Unfortunately this was too big, so he had to lose another 20 lbs to fit in the suit ! So next time you complain about having to lose weight, think of Christian. Michael Caine is a national treasure. Consider Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a comedy with Caine and Steve Martin as competing con men which is an absolute joy to watch. The Batman games are also great fun, the high point being Arkham City. For next week can you please practice your Batman voice Kali. We need to hear you say (with a straight face into camera) "I am Batman !" Also your Scarecrow face (when he was poisoning people 1:13:00) was awesome ! Can not wait to see what you make of the next one. It is rather special. Recommended reading ; The Dark Knight Returns - Frank Miller's magnum opus about a fifty yr old Batman coming out of retirement, and bringing hell with him The Long Halloween - absolutely huge and features the full rogue's gallery Hush - another awesome story with all the villains, and art by legendary Jim Lee

Katie Holmes was pregnant with Tom Cruise's baby I believe.

The Amazing Webhead

Good reaction! You got to know one of the best/iconic superheroes in the world. Batman is an amazing character who’s been around for almost 100 years cause he was created in 1939. He has so many comics, shows, games, & films both animated & live action to count than any hero. This film was a great introduction to him & his world. You met some of his support cast in the lore such as Alfred who is like Bruce’s adopted father figure in the comics & Gordon who is one of his biggest Allies. Also the bat signal is important as that is use for the police/Gordon informing Batman about crimes. The bat cave & the Batmobile which here is a tank lol. Rachel is a character created for this trilogy. This is Bruce’s traditional origin story in the comics & every adaptation. His parents always get gun down in an alleyway by a crook and traumatized Bruce. That event is where Batman was born & Bruce dedicating his life to stop crime of Gotham City. There are changes however in this one like Bruce never got trained by Ra Al Ghul. He does get trained by ninjas in the comics as well as other types of training such as an escape artist, a master of disguise & more. He is also a detective/genius able to solve mysteries, riddles, etc. He & Spider-Man also have the biggest/best gallery of villains ever. You met two of Batman’s enemies being Scarecrow & Ra Al Ghul who is who Liam Neeson is playing. The one you met at the temple was his decoy. However, the last scene with Batman & Gordon with the Joker card sets you up to meet his main villain/arch nemesis in the next film. 👀

The Amazing Webhead

Last thing to note is this trilogy is a more grounded/realistic take of the Batman world. In the comics, cartoons, & games for example, Batman is a normal human living in a more fantastical world filled with super humans such as Superman who is another character I hope you meet soon. Batman is a founding member of the Justice League along side with Superman. Basically Batman fights not just street crime but has battled super humans, aliens, you name it. Lol. I highly recommend playing the Batman Arkham games as that will show you more of the larger lore to this character & his villains. Also are some of the best superhero games ever.

Mister Lou

I'd love to hear your Batman voice on your kids! LoL they be like "I did brush my teeth, swear to god!" and you're like "SWEAR TO ME!" lol

KamikazeCDN

I strongly debated waiting to watch this until the others are out since once I watch this one I always need to binge the next two as well. But obviously I couldn't wait lol. It was funny watching you comment on the cast each time a new face popped up and you were surprised saying how great it is. I kept thinking "just you wait, there is more". Honestly the entire trilogy has a really great cast across the board. There is so much I love about Batman, not just these movies (though they are great). The character isn't just "put on the suit and go to work". There are the theatrics to it all, weaponizing fear to his advantage. His general rule of not killing people, yes there are moments people could jump in and give a "um actually..." to this but he always tries to find a way to neutralize the threat without killing unlike others. And then of course it's like you said "he's just a guy" underneath it all. Sure he is ultra rich but he's just a dude with some gear often getting into fist fights with the bad guys. The one aspect of Batman this version lacks a little bit is his great detective ability and high intelligence, but it's not really an issue. Another reason I enjoy the world of Batman as well is what I consider the most important character...Gotham City. Yes it all takes place there but Gotham itself plays a big role in the villains that call it home. There is something about it's dark, gritty, and corrupt nature that makes it uniquely oppressive and shapes those that live there. A lot of the big Gotham villains don't have any sort of superpower, there most certainly are some but there is a large number of them that are just a product of Gotham's oppressive nature. Heck Falcone is literally a mob boss that thrives because of the city. But they're just people that have dealt with trauma or hardships, often with some sort of mental health struggle that becomes amplified through the city. Again there absolutely are villains with actual powers but a lot of them just have access to tech or money or have super genius IQ all while falling in to what I just was saying. Really looking forward to the next two in the trilogy.

Malcolm Ferguson

This movie was my first major introduction to Batman too (aside from an episode or two of the animated series when I was really young), and is still my personal favourite Batman movie. I love how it shows Bruce Wayne's entire journey into becoming Batman, as well as all the details about how he keeps it up (not to mention keeps it secret). Basically, I like how both personas are given equal importance. I also love how it's Falcone of all people who sets him on this path by giving him a dose of reality - by pointing out that, despite losing his parents, he's still better off than most people. Hearing that, I think, is what made him want to understand the people who have it worse than him, which ultimately led him to Ra's Al Ghul.

McShades

Chris Nolan who helped write and Direct this Trilogy, also started Man of Steel (Superman), if you do watch MOS you'll notice very similar tone in that movie to Batman Begins, unfortunately Chris Nolan decided he wanted to Direct Interstellar instead and handed off the unfinished MOS to Zack Snyder, who did a decent job of finishing it.

Robert da Spruce

Awesome reaction Kali! Even though I’ve seen this trilogy many times, watching you experience it for the first time brought back a lot of the excitement that made it so epic when first watched it! One thing I love about Nolan as a director is he favors to use practical effects when possible. It gives everything more of a feeling of “reality”. If you can call a billionaire playboy by day, crime fighting bat by night reality 😉 And not only is the cast stacked. You have some of the most recognizable and iconic voices like Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, etc Can’t wait for the Dark Knight!

Joe Mallard

Love these movies, hope you go back and watch 89 and Returns at some point.

Phil Stubblefield

I was never a DC fan as a kid. I saw all of the Superman and Batman movies in the '70s, '80s, and '90s (as well as reruns of the campy Batman TV series from the '60s). They were certainly fun, but they never blew me away. Until Batman Begins. Holy deluge! 😲 I'm glad you're starting your Batman journey with the best. You can always go back and watch the other films later, but these are the real deal! BTW, the most Kali-esque part of your reaction comes at 1:16:52 when you're try to justify why Batman's voice is so theatrical in comparison to Bruce Wayne's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw7swnnhNDE&t=4612s "I'm guessing he's doing that to, like, mask his own voice, which is smart, but it's like the little demon voice that you do to your kids when you don't want to yell... 'Brush your teeth!'" LOL! 🤣 At the end of the film, when Rachel told Bruce, "Thanks, but no thanks," you said exactly what I was thinking: why do we continually have to suffer through the "Spider-Man can never find lasting love" trope! 😟 All in all, thanks for another terrific reaction, my friend! We look forward to The Dark Knight!

Farbod

Great reaction. Its such a special trilogy. I honestly don't think anything in the MCU or Snyderverse can compare. Cant wait for the next two. You should give Batman 89 and The Batman 2022 a watch after these as well.

Scott S

Christian Bale secretly wants to be a Death Metal singer, but had to settle for Batman role ;) The voice gets more intense..

La Baanga

Honestly, his voice when he tells Rachel "Falcone sent them to kill you" should've been the voice he stuck with. Deeper and more harsh, but not so much that it sounded silly.

JeRon Washington

Kali, I had a feeling you was gonna cry when that guy killed Bruce's parents. I lost my father 3 years ago

PaulieXP

Well then.. now you have to play the Batman Arkham games. Starting with Asylum

Ricardo de Leon

Looking forward to the The Dark Knight (one of the best Batman films of all time) and The Dark Knight Rises reactions. Although not seen in the other films, the Scarecrow (played by Cillian Murphy) was a surprise villain for this. He appeared in the 90's "Batman: The Animated Series" that was popular. It's fascinating this is your first foray into the Batman franchise. Mine was the Burton films. They all have very similar takes on the origin story, but very different vibes at the same time.

Lastboyscout73

While this trilogy is very good, it all started for me in Batman from 1989 (Tim Burton's take). Batman's back story always remains basically the same but you will find if you decide to watch other iterations of Batman movies, that different directors have different takes on his methods. To find "love" in a superhero flick is pretty next to impossible. It's always the same old story, they can't be too close to someone without risking putting them in danger. Just like Spiderman for Marvel it would seem that Batman is the most beloved character for DC. I respect that but I guess I'm stubborn. My favorite Marvel character will always be Wolverine and my favorite DC character will always be The Flash. (not that last flash movie btw) I used to really like The Flash TV show on the CW. I wasn't sure if I was going to revisit these movies with you but decided to do it anyway. You didn't disappoint. Forgive me for laughing at you for thinking he was bitten by a bat. I guess I find it amazing that in the world we live today that you didn't at least have a small clue about Batman's back story. It was fun to watch you discover it for the 1st time. Cillian Murphy is a great Irish actor. The way he can do his American accent so effortlessly blows my mind because in interviews he is very Irish lol. There is a show on Netflix he was the star in called Peaky Blinders. That's the show that really put him as an actor on the map for me. Look forward to your next reaction, it's probably the best of the 3 in this trilogy.

Danny

These movies feel more like Nolan films than Superhero flicks to me. He's just such an extraordinary storyteller and is so good at attracting great actors and inspiring them to extraordinary performances. Some of the jokes and one-liners ground it as a superhero movie but Nolan's films are in a class of their own.

Raymond Guerra

Michael Keaton is still the best batman and Bruce Wayne. But Christian Bale is pretty good nonetheless.

Marty McGee

I often hear the complaint that boils down to "Nolan films are all style and no substance." I wholeheartedly disagree. Yes they are usually stunning visually, but what I love most is the character stories. The humanity. I really loved how we got to see Bruce go from childhood trauma, wanting personal vengeance, to a sense of justice. He took the ideas of Ras Al Ghoul which were emotionless and merciless and added compassion thereby bringing balance and true justice to his fight against the criminal underworld. This movie was about Bruce Wayne's personal battle. Not about superhero vs villains. I'm glad you were able to pick up on that too! A lot of people I've watched it with and other commentators or reactors haven't.

kaliwali

Ahh that's really awesome to hear! I can't wait to watch it this week!

kaliwali

Ah yes, I agree with your disagreement there lol. This film was full of SO much heart. This one felt so grounded and emotional. Yes a lot of that had to do with the 'style' and the way Zimmer delivered certain notes, but every scene and note felt so intentional that it added so much depth to it all! I love how you put it. That Bruce taking Al Ghul's ideas and infused them with compassion.. Because YES. That is the difference between vengeance and justice. Its what makes the entire journey so powerful and mean somthing. I think that is honestly what I noticed the most about this movie coming out of it after a first watch... How much heart and philosophy there was underneath all the flashy action ❤️‍🔥

kaliwali

I need to watch some Michael Keaton Batman/Bruce Wayne to compare after!

kaliwali

I felt that too honestly! Just because of all the talented actors embedded in this movie! Soooo many familiar faces that are known for brilliance and it definitely shows. But then the action, tech, and one-liners brought us right back into the 'wait, this IS a superhero movie" feel and I loved it for that! It made it all really enjoyable honestly

kaliwali

No need to apologize! I totally deserved the laugh for thinking batman was created by a man being bitten by a bat like spider-man LOL. Looking back now it's pretty hilarious and I still chuckle at myself for expecting that 🤣😅 It was a LOT of fun seeing Batman's true origin in this. It was incredible and had way more heart in it than I could have ever imagined! Becoming a bat because he is traumatized by them? Genius and full of so much soul.. You're also really right about that impossible "love" angle too. The whole "I care about you, but I'll put you in danger" theme just hurts in the best superhero way every time. So much that I find myself angry at it now LOL And yes! Cillian Murphy was so incredible here! I'm glad this was my first introduction to him. He went from really charming and beautiful to absolutely terrifying in seconds 😅 then he just had the face of someone that you'd like to punch the smug look off his face and THAT transition to me shows just how great he was in this role! I've had Peaky Blinders on my list for ages! Even since before I started a reaction channel lol. So it would be really neat to watch it with you all eventually! Also I'm really glad you decided to take a change on rewatching these with me! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

kaliwali

Oh maaaaaan. Reading through these comments, I'm seeing another sequel that is equally as good or even BETTER than the original and now I can't wait to dive into The Dark Knight this week! And I can't wait to dive into more Batman eventually! I was not expecting this kind of depth in an origin story and I loved it so much for that.. It would be really neat to move through them like I did with the Spider-Mans and compare/contrast their styles and feel eventually!

kaliwali

Oh man.. I definitely do! Is Asylum the first of the games I'm assuming??

kaliwali

I'm so sorry for your loss 🤍 That scene definitely captures how much that feeling of loss can change who you are forever. I can't imagine how much that moment must have resonated with you.. Thank you for sharing

kaliwali

LOL I cant' even imagine it being more intense than it already is. I can't wait hahaha

kaliwali

I definitely want to give those Batman movies a watch too!

PaulieXP

Yes, Asylum launched first, then City, then Origins( a prequel of sorts, not done by the same dev team, most fans consider it the worst in the series, but don't let that fool you, it's not a bad game, it's just happened to come in 4th on a list of 4 great games). Finally, Arkham Knight completes the trilogy

kaliwali

I love your history with the older films! I defintiely plan on giving them a watch over time because I loved seeing the different Spider-Man variations and I'd love to do the same with Batman now! And LOL on the whole Batman voice and it being theatrical lol. I've definitely used that voice on Nora before and it just made me laugh so much that Batman started to sound more and more like how I do when I don't' want to yell but I want to get the point across hahaha. But I was honestly too nervous to really get into it for you guys. Maybe I'll try again 🤣😅 And yesssss. I get this whole "love makes you vulnerable and puts the other in danger" trope but wow does it hurt my achy breaky heart every time! For once I'd love to see a superhero just give it their all, full send, and protect their love as much as they protect their city! 😅 But I get it at the same time and it does make for strong feelings and a good story haha Can't wait to see you in the next one! I'm seeing through the comments that it's another case where the second movie is even better than the first ❤️‍🔥👀

kaliwali

That's awesome! One of my favorite parts about doing these reactions is hearing that people got to relive some of those first time experiences and excitements again! It makes me so happy to give just a little sliver of that joy back to you all through these 🤍 And yes! Nolan's commitment to the practical effects blew me away! Everything felt so real almost like you could smell the Gotham grime in those areas lol. And wow the cast was insane.. A true all-star lineup of legendary voices and faces that made it an awesome experience just seeing them all together! I'm so ready for The Dark Knight!

Ahh I definitely plan on watching some Superman eventually so that'll be awesome to look forward to! I loved the vibes in this one a lot.

kaliwali

I love that you pointed out the moment with Falcone as an unexpected turn of events bc yes! It's wild how he of all people ended up giving Bruce the wake up call that changed it all. You're right that that dose of reality pushed him to see beyond his own pain and really get into the Batman character to see true change.. Very powerful writing

Raymond Guerra

Definitely. Jack Nicholson joker was great, danny devito penguin was ok.

kaliwali

You put it perfectly! The way you described Gotham as a character of its own because yesss! Exactly that and I totally forgot to comment on it in my outro ( I think was honestly so blown away by the entire thing after watching for the first time and getting somethign completely different than I expected) . The city definitely felt alive, and it was always shaped by the people in it. Heroes and villains. I actually love that they didn't set this story up in New York or another well-known city.. You can see how much Bruce is a reflection of the city's pain but also its hope. And you're also right about Batman's "just a guy" factor. There is something really compelling about a hero with no powers. Just sheer will, trauma, and tech. And I guess yeah, a ridiculous amount of money LOL. I also see what you mean about the detective side too! I can't wait for The Dark Knight! I didn't realize I'm jumping into another sequel that once again surpasses the first movie so I'm really excitged to watch that this week! See you there!!

kaliwali

LOL "SWEAR TO ME" made me laugh so hard 🤣🤣🤣

kaliwali

Thank you!! I really really enjoyed learning all of this as I watched! I made me appreciate that much more just how rich and layered the Batman world is. And I think what I appreciate the most, which I forgot to touch on in my outro, is that Gotham City isn't real. Sure it's based on cities that we know, but it's a fictional city that Batman alone has this powerful desire to keep alive and on the better path because of his legacy and Father's wish. I loved that a lot! I'm starting to see now through the writing in this film why Batman has been so loved for almost 100 years! Thank you, as always, for sharing the comic side of things! It's always a pleasure reading your knowledge about that world. Like the full range of Bruce's training and detective skills! That makes this story feel even bigger and now I can't wait to dive into The Dark Knight this week!

kaliwali

Oh man, those games have been on my backlog for so long! Mainly because I didn't know much about Spider-Man/Batman so I felt like I couldn't jump into those worlds before I saw the movies! But now... I have a huge itch to play them!

kaliwali

Ahh that's awesome! I haven't seen GoT, but I'm sure it'll be something we get into there eventually so I'll have to look out for him! Bale was definitely a bad guy in Love and Thunder! I remember that now haha

kaliwali

I loved your comment so much! Thank you so much for sharing all of this! 👀 Your perspective on the evolution of Batman over the years was interesting and how Nolan's version finally hit the "this is it" moment for you! Very cool! I also totally get what you mean about the glacier/temple scene. It was breathtaking and I was feeling that emotional punch right with you lol. I was really taken back by the heaviness and poetic writing in this entire movie! I know I said it, but I went in expecting Spider-Man or MCU vibes and was VERY wrong lol. It took the wind out of me (in a good way) during a lot of those heavier opening scenes and I knew I needed to buckle up becuse this was not the superhero story I'm used to.. Adn noted on the Batman voice LOL. I was so nervous trying it out on you guys bc its usually when I'm frustrated with the little one but don't want to yell that it comes out 🤣 I'll channel my inner authoritative mom and bring it to you all next time! Thank you for the reading recommendations as well!! I need to check them out! See you in The Dark Knight! I can't wait 👀❤️‍🔥

kaliwali

It's so true! Christian Bale did incredible in all three of those roles. All the way down to his facial expressions.. He so easily went from Bruce Wayne to Batman to Playboy lol. It was very enjoyable to watch!

kaliwali

I definitely need to play those and the Spider-Man games now that I've finally watched the movies!

kaliwali

Oh no... I didn't hear about his wife. That's really sad :(

kaliwali

Oh noo! Stinks that Rachel Dawes was recast. But I do agree that this movie was EPIC and I can't wait to watch the next one!

kaliwali

I should have known way sooner than the credits that Zimmer had something to do with this score 😅❤️‍🔥 It was incredible the entire way through and it felt like every element was just working together in such a dark and twisty way that really pulled you into the whole Batman vibe! Absolutely loved it for that.. And those small details, yes! Genius. Every shot felt so extremely immersive which is something I really love in a movie. Those tiny touches and perspective shifts that make you feel how the characters feel. Very cool! Can't wait for the next one now!

kaliwali

yesss! I got chills during that line too ❤️‍🔥🤍 This movie just felt so dark and epic.. I can't wait for the next one this week!

You're in for quite the journey. The DCU films haven't been as well received in recent years as many MCU films, but the DC films (especially Michael Keaton's Batman) was the first to show superhero stories could have depth, emotion, and even a darkness or a serious maturity. I like what other people said, these feel more like other Nolan films (Inception has a similar cast). By the time you eventually get to the the Zach Snyder (Snyderverse) films , it may start to feel a lot more like the Spiderman or MCU films. They all have their own enjoyable aspects and incredible cast. Speaking of the The Dark Knight, another related film recommendation and Heath Ledger classic if you haven't seen would be a "A Knight's Tale".

Malcolm Ferguson

BTW, just so you won't be thrown off - Rachel was recast in The Dark Knight.

2026-09-07 13:00 So I’m sure others probably said the same thing but after you finish this trilogy you’re probably going to want more, so you should play the Batman Arkham Series. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and Arkham Knight. You will not regret it at all

Yes so many suggestions for this!

Kali, well I finally found my way over here! Great reaction! The next movie is alright, I mean, most people think it's top 5 all time in cinema history, but yeah, alright, passable popcorn flick. Lol 🤣 Can't wait for you to watch it.

David Perkins

awesome reaction as always! can't wait for the next one. in my opinion it's the best of the trilogy. ooh, also, concerning Cillian Murphy, i would love to see you do "The Peaky Blinders" at some point. ngl, i've only seen the first 4 of 6 seasons so i can only speak to how good they are. i'm moderately confident that you wouldn't be disappointed. good writing, lots of twists you didn't see coming and, y'know, Cillian murphy sooo! i heard a rumour that many ladies think he's quite passable! anyway, thanks again, take good care of you and yours and i'll see ya in the next one!

Batman and Superman came before all the heroes, the two most iconic characters with Batman being the most popular and best ever and Superman being THE most iconic...Wonder Woman and Spider-Man behind them, John Stewart's Green Lanterns and Black Panther for me up there for me💪🏾...DC has better top quality films, shows, games, comics than Marvel, it is great you are gettin into it. After this trilogy u should watch Matt Reeves' The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson, and then the Colin Farrell starring The Penguin (2024) show that Reeves and him produced as well as Lauren LeFranc who wrote the show and signed a deal with HBO to develop more from that film and others. Both acclaimed on all fronts with box office/viewership, awards, and more. That Batman world is on another level when it comes to "Cinema" as a film fanatic even outside of comic book projects myself. Superman (1978) would be a great watch after as an introduction to Supes and then Superman II, then watch James Gunn's Superman (2025). Perfect Batman and Superman, I hope Matt Reeves and James Gunn come together and have Robert Pattinson's Batman in the new DCU...I hope they are playing us and Rob shows up in something like the R-rated body horror Clayface film next year for The Batman villain because Reeves is producing that too because it was his idea to want to make the film and Mike Flanagan wrote a great script I already know, it is heavily based off of Batman The Animated Series' Feat of Clay episodes in the 90s...Reeves and Gunn both casted the Clayface actor Tom Rhys Harries together...Matt Reeves still has his solo Batman films and spinoff shows like The Penguin in Gotham and he runs the Gotham side of the DCU, while Gunn runs everything else and diving into Gotham and working with Matt here and there which is already happening for an animated film called Dynamic Duo about the two Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd...Reeves and Gunn are both producing that film and it releases 6/30/2028 but we still do not know if it is connected to the live action Batman yet, because characters can go from animation to live action to games to comics in any way in the DCU...the difference in tone is what would make it so good if David Corenswet's Superman and Rob's Batman meet. The Justice League films would break records. Reeves still has The Batman Part II releasing on 10/1/2027 and other shows from Gotham like The Penguin S2 maybe, Catwoman, Arkham Asylum, and other shows could still come and obviously The Batman Part III film. A Batman movie titled Brave and the Bold is another film in writing as well but we will see what happens with that. The Superman sequel titled Man of Tomorrow releases 7/9/2027. Obviously there are other projects u should watch like The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker S1, and Blue Beetle, all of which are not fully canon to the DCU but necessary and great watches...and then Creature Commandos S1 and Peacemaker S2. Gunn makes sure it is not confusing, especially as u watch. The upcoming DCU releases next year are Lanterns S1, Supergirl, and Clayface. A new Wonder Woman film is being written right now and might release in March of 2028 for Women's History Month, and I can't wait to see who they cast. Batman is so iconic an R-rated lower budget solo film about his villain Joker had a spinoff film in 2019 made by Todd Phillips that Martin Scorsese helped on that made over a billion dollars and won many awards, with Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. One of the most profitable films ever and the first and best R-rated billion dollar hit. That film is one of my favorited and is not connected to anything by the way, it is its own thing. I am more of a DC fan but I am also a Marvel fan, and I see the DCU passing the MCU, it is better currently than what the MCU is right now too.

The score by Hans Zimmer in this is great, but wait until you hear the score and music in The Batman from Michael Giacchino.

LeSteeler

Gotham is located in New Jersey, but Nolan filmed mostly in Chicago and Pittsburgh for the last one...Matt Reeves for The Batman filmed in the UK, Chicago, and the team in New York for The Penguin.

Michael

You should play the Batman Arkham Asylum games on your YouTube channel

Jacob

You really should watch the entire series of this batman

Ray

Man of Steel is the unofficial 4th movie in the Nolan “quadrilogy”. It's the most epic superman ever.

Ray

Not necessary to feel bad for that blonde kid that got mushed by league of shadow dude. The kid is Geoffrey from game of thrones. He deserves a lot worse.

Ray

Man of Steel is a must if you loved the Dark Knight Trilogy. Same team made MOS (Superman).

Ray

Rachel knows that being Batman is full time job and it's not 9-5. A relationship between them while he's Batman would never work. She smart and knows this. She loves him and might be available in the future once he's retired the cape.

Ray

And this is how you make a superhero movie!
