After seeing the box office numbers for Zootopia 2 over the weekend absolutely skyrocket, I needed to finally sit down and watch Zootopia! I went in expecting something light and playful about zoo animals haha, but instead was hit with so much heart and soul. This movie wasn't afraid to show us the harder truths about fear, judgement, and the ways we learn to see one another. I loved every moment and was surprised at how deep it all got!!Watching Judy and Nick navigate their own biases and wounds felt so tender and honest. Almost too uncomfortably real at times. By the time the credits rolled, I was hit with that warm feeling in my chest. The kind you get when a story offers way more than you ever expected and exactly what you needed. I wasn't prepared for a kids movie to feel so thoughtful, so raw, so intentional. But Zootopia did! It's definitely a film I'll be carrying with me from now on. A film that quietly reminds us all to look a little closer and lead with a little more heart towards not just ourselves but others.See you all in Zootopia 2 whenever it hits streaming! Can't wait!!

The way they designed and animated the animals in this felt very vintage Disney to me. The small bits showing how creatures of such wildly different sizes and shapes occupy the same spaces reminded me of the crowd of critters following Snow White around, each with its own delightful personality.

Robert da Spruce

Don’t think I’ve seen Zootopia before So it’ll be a first time watch for me as well

Fyi this movie blew up because it was really good and another reason.........😞

Darian Harman

2016 was a magnificent year for movies. The Nice Guys, Hell or High Water, The Edge of Seventeen, Captain America: Civil War, Train to Busan, Rogue One, etc. Zootopia, for whatever reason, was my favorite film of that year. Instant classic.

Richard

Yeah, so I'm kind of a softie and this kind of reaction is more my vibe than Kill Bill or 300, not that there aren't aspects of those that make for interesting discussion. But I've always loved animated films, and I feel strongly that stuff like Pixar's best can complete with any live action film ever made. That's why I'm excited for you to get to Up which I've seen on the polls; you'll love that one too for sure. I've only seen Zootopia once so looking forward to this reaction. The genre mix I call Funny with Feels is when you shine the brightest; an animated version isn't a bad substitute😊 If it's ok I'm putting this here since Movie Tickets seem to have an uncertain future. I've been holding this one since March when I decided to go with Liar Liar instead (not regretting that because you really enjoyed it). You've reacted to very few rom-coms so far, but this one called "Return to Me" starring David Duchovny and Minnie Driver from 2000 is an amazing, very sweet and emotional film of that type that I 110% know you'll love. Cassie and Carly reacted to it a couple years ago and they loved it and it got 101k views. Maybe you could add it to your whiteboard with Valentine's season possibilities. Thanks for your consideration in this matter. 😄

TheJoeKerr

Disney animated films are always good. They always cater to all audiences and ages. Been awhile since I’ve seen this so looking forward to a rewatch.

Jp Davis

Zootopia is amazing. I hope this opens a gateway for more animated movie reactions because some of my favorite movies of all time are animated movies (finding nemo, inside out, lion king, etc)

KJ

There's some great references to movies and TV shows in this as well, hopefully ones you'll eventually react to 😂 Love the message in this movie and how it reflects what's going on on in too many real world cities. Politicians trying to scapegoat a minority for violence using all kinds of underhanded tactics. Here's hoping the people see through it and make the corrupt face justice 😂

Steve Mercier

Easily my favorite disney movie of the last...I don't know...for a while. Just good shit.

NinjaMidget

I would say I'm surprised you havn't seen Zootopia....but then again, of course you havn't :) I saw Zootopia 2 over Thanksgiving and it's just as good as the first. Please share with the class the Disney movies you havn't seen so we can properly mock you and badger you until you start watching them. ~edit~ The previews before Zootopia 2 included one for Toy Story 5

NinjaMidget

I agree, but I would add stay away from the live action remakes. When they remade The Lion King in "live action" it was like they ripped the soul out of the movie and threw what was left on cellulite.

pinkdino99

The sloth scene is just everything. I was in a room full of adults with a few small children that were on the floor crying with laughter at that scene. It's still funny on repeat viewing.

The Amazing Webhead

Good reaction! Zootopia is one of my favorite Disney films. A lot of heart to it and has a deep message that felt natural & not in your face. The story is filled with heartwarming moments & very funny ones. The best part of both films is the relationship between Nick & Judy. Many love their dynamic/chemistry and they both bring out the best in each other. It’s a great friendship but it did spark everyone to ship them because they give an enemies to lovers vibe. When watching it, you can see that there is a bit small moments of flirting with their banter & I appreciate the filmmakers for making it more subtle to leave it to your own interpretation. It might be just me, but some of their back & forth reminds me of the dynamic between Spider-Man & one of his love interests, Black Cat cause of the playful banter. Hope when you see more Spidey content, I’m curious to see when you’ll meet her & think of their relationship lol.

kaliwali

I agree! It was so good & meaningful!

kaliwali

Inside Out is one I'd love to see soon as well as the second one! I loveeee Find Nemo and also Finding Dory! But I'd love to do more animated movies next year for sure :)

kaliwali

I loved this one so much!! And I'm definitely looking forward to more Pixar/Disney movies here for sure! I'll add Return to Me to my list and keep a note that it's good Valentine's Day vibes :) Thank you!

kaliwali

I can see why!! Of those I've also seen The Nice Guys (LOVED) and obviously Captain America & Rogue One. 2016 was a great movie year!

kaliwali

I'm not sure what this means lol

kaliwali

Ooh I hope you enjoy it then! I definitely got way more out of it than I expected to so I think you'll really enjoy it!

kaliwali

Ahh I can see that 'vintage' feel with the design/animation! There was definitely something very visually appealing about this movie!

20 16

I'm going to save your sanity and leave it at that lol

DragonFireCK

I was actually thinking of recommending /Zootopia/ to you as it is such a fun and uplifting movie. Plenty of humor to go around, and all good for all ages. I really need to find the time to go watch /Zootopia 2/. Along the same vein, /Up/ has similar humor, if you haven't see that yet. /Inside Out/ and /Inside Out 2/ are more serious, but still very fun movies with good messages. They are Halloween movies, but also good is /Hocus Pocus/. /Hocus Pocus 2/ is also good, but doesn't quite live up to the original. If you want a fun Christmas movie, /Home Alone/ and /Home Alone 2/ are both classic and good humor movies.

Jacob

This is a really fun movie! Judy and Nick have great chemistry. The action scene in the small town was very creative and I like the humor.

Richard

What a fun reaction! Brightened my day. Great messages. Kind of a bummer that there is some stuff that is scary for little ones.

Chris

Just to confirm, yes, the second one is good too.

The Amazing Webhead

Other Disney films I would recommend are The Princess & the Frog, Wall-E, Toy Story, & Tarzan. There are many more but those are some of favorites. Also another animated film I wanted to recommend that have similar vibes to Zootopia but more crazy are The Bad Guys & its sequel. :)

Joe Blankenship

This is high on my favorite Pixar list. Great chemistry between Nick and Judy. I'm glad they finally made a sequel. And I'm wondering if it will address the subject of interspecies relationships. Can a fox hook up with a bunny in Zootopia or is that frowned upon?

Calu

This movie is excellent and your reaction was great! You should have been able to recognize Shakira just from the hip-shaking-dancing moves. LOL Also, not sure if you have seen The Godfather (probably one of the greatest movies of all time BTW) but that whole "you come to me, on the day of my daughter's wedding" scene is all straight out of that movie, with Mr. Big sounding exactly like Marlon Brando. Hilarious!!! There are more than a few really good animated movies from the Disney/Pixar collection, but I would put in my vote for Inside Out, Coco, Encanto and Up.

M1 Maz

This one was such a pleasant surprise! I also really didn't expect this one to offer all that it did. You know they made a great movie when both kids and adults can enjoy it so much in their own ways. Such a cool world, and so much attention to detail, and I really appreciated how each species of animal had so much unique character. I loved the Italian mob too LOL I realized that the lion mayor was JK Simmons like halfway through, and you know what gave it away for me? When he started yelling LOL. I think I've watched Whiplash too many times hahaha

Jose Morales

I really enjoyed this movie. Glad you did as well. I feel it had great tones/messages that I was not expecting from this movie. I hope you someday watch Up, and another movie I'd recommend is Brave. I enjoyed that movie so much when it came out. Now that I'm pretty much recovered from my sinus infection I get to play catch up on a few movies you did recently.

Mister Lou

I am not at all surprised that the sequel is doing great! I love this movie

Darian Harman

Just re-watched the movie with your commentary, and I have to say, you've got a WAY stronger constitution than I do. I had a full-on tear drop at least 7 or 8 times on this re-watch. This movie is so special to me. I think it's because when I watch it, I'm not really thinking about the movie, itself. I'm thinking about the fact that young people get to grow up in a world where it exists, that people cared enough to not only make it, but to make it be as good and as poignant as it is. It may not restore my faith in humanity (my faith lies somewhere far more reliable!), but it definitely keeps my hope for the future of humanity on life support!

Robert Foxx

I forgot about the Walter Jessie referance and laughed my head off

FatLittleButterfly

first?? Toy Story 1/2/3/4 Inside Out 1/2 Wreck it Ralph 1/2 Tangled Moana Ratatouille The Incredibles 1/2 Finding Nemo/Dory Brave Up Raya and The Last Dragon Monsters A Bugs Life Antz Dinosaur (2000) ENJOY!

Robert da Spruce

I enjoyed that one! Not sure why I never watched it before Lots of great messages in this film and the animation is excellent I did recognize Shakira and JK Simmons’ voices. I was fooled by the Weasel though. I thought it was Steve Buscemi. Turns out it was Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly) Out of curiosity, I googled Alan’s voiceover roles. He’s quite the voiceover actor! Aside from this and K2SO from Rogue One, he’s done so many voiceover roles!

Mike G

It's not a Pixar film. Still an amazing movie tho.

Joe Blankenship

Okay. So, this is like Wreck-it Ralph and Big Hero 6. They might as well be Pixar, it's all Disney. There's probably a money reason why certain ones aren't Pixar branded.

kaliwali

Yess! I've noticed that Alan Tudyk does soooo many voice roles too. I googled him one time as well after watching Rogue One and missed him in the credits here because I was too busy with JK Simmons lol. But he must really love doing voiceovers! He's talented at them too! I'm glad you loved this one tho! I enjoyed it for the same reasons!

kaliwali

Thak you for the suggestions! I've seen soooome of these, but definitely not all of them! If I said First in my intro it meant "first as a reactor" 🤣

kaliwali

Awwww, it definitely got me choked up a few times so I totally understand! The messages were so powerful. I really loved how they made this story so kid friendly while touching on some very important themes about judgement and how we're raised to think of others 🩷 I know how you feel about lost faith in humanity.. It's rough, but movies like this pick you back up again for a bit and I appreciate it so much for that!

kaliwali

Sinus Infection nooooo. Those are the worst and so painful! I'm glad you're feeling like yourself again 🩷

kaliwali

Yes the yelling! That's when it clicked for me as well so that's hilarious 🤣 I think Whiplash made us all walk away with a little JK Simmons PTSD lol

kaliwali

I haven't seen Godfather yet but I've heard that line quoted soooo many times!

kaliwali

Thank you so much!! I'm glad you're loving it here!

Robert Foxx

Walter White and Jessie from Breaking Bad. It was when the sheep was working with the blue flowers in the lab.

Robert Foxx

Also you said you where going to watch UP? Have a full box of tissues ready.

Christopher Laverdure

Welp Nice community. However after her 67 reference I have to leave. I'm kidding, but also.... NO... Don't fall into that trap!

Eric Stewart

So glad you broke out of the violent and super hero genres in the latest week. What about some Hayao Miyazaki films? Many are truly epic

kaliwali

LOL I have a 1st grader that has started to say it and it drives me craaaaazy! 🤣

kaliwali

I agree! I felt like I needed some balancing out and went to the far extreme. It was a really refreshing change of pace!

Lastboyscout73

If you're going to venture into Animated films then please put Megamind on your list. It's one of my absolute favorites. It's also got a rockin sound track!

Camron

Great idea, but those would have to be Patreon exclusives. Ghibli reactions on youtube is the fastest way to get your channel shut down.

Matt Fong

I view this movie with a racial coat to it

NinjaMidget

I think you'll like Inside Out. It's another one that has a lot of heart to it and all the laughs and great animation you'd expect from Disney.

Christopher Laverdure

This movie has a lot of really good racial stereotype messaging without being preachy. I appreciate it for that.

Ron A

I dont usually watch animated movies, but this one suprised me... it was really fun. The Godfather lines/parody made me cry laughing, i was not expecting that.. lol. when Mr Big said "You come here unannounced on the day my daughter is to be married." was so funny.. but if you have not watched the godfather the parody would probably go over some peoples head... i am betting there are many parody lines and skits in the movie. ohhh.. like the one Pete mentioned in the comments "walter and Jesse are back..."..lol, great little wink to "Breaking Bad" Two thumbs up for me.. great reaction

kaliwali

I've seen Tangled already and absolutely loved it! But haven't seen Megamind! Good soundtrack??? Say no more lol

kaliwali

I need to see The Godfather! I know that line because I've definitely heard people quote it before LOL but I gotta see the actual movie sometime for sure. And apparently Breaking Bad which I def didn't catch that easter egg!

James Park

Hey Kali, so glad your starting a Disney animation watch list but don't forget Dreamworks. You have to watch Megamind, its a great play on superhero movies especially since you just watched superman

Jonas Vanderstraeten

OMG, me too! Every time we're out and I see a "67" I just whisper "please no please no please no" to myself, but it's been to no avail :D I hope this fad soon passes...

Jonas Vanderstraeten

Another great reaction! This is one of my favourite "modern" Disney animations. There are so many more though! My all time favourite is Wall-E, you HAVE to see it! And I also personally believe that every parent should see Inside Out, because it's so insightful. And from the comments I gather you also havent seen The Godfather? It's considered one of the best movies of all times, so I hope it makes it to your screen one day!

kutz

67??!!

Taithos

another good movie that is similar to this is Sing

Cliff

Zootopia 2 is on Disney+. When do you think you'll be able to react to it?
