Surprise! I snuck this one in last week so I could share it with you all early today. It will also be releasing on YouTube today as well so be sure to check it out later if you can (even if you just throw it on in the background at some point!) ✨After Zootopia, I needed to jump into another Disney movie asap. I went in expecting more amazing themes, beautiful animations, and a sweet Disney story. But my heart was NOT prepared for what Up's story really had to say. From the very first moments, this story speaks in quiet moments, soft music, and the kind of love that doesn't need epic speeches to feel incredibly moving. Carl and Ellie's life together was a cross your heart kind of promise. One built on shared dreams, small joys, and the belief that some souls are just simply meant to be together. If soulmates exist (which I truly believe they do), Up understands them deeply.Carl's journey was so tender and painful because it's really about grief. How love doesn't disappear when someone is gone, it just reshapes itself. Watching him learn that adventure doesn't end with Ellie, that her spirit lives on and guides him to still keep adventuring even after her she is gone absolutely broke me. And sweet Russel with his big heart and optimistic hope. It felt like the exact person Carl needed to meet in that moment. Not to replace Ellie, but to remind him that love multiplies when you let it in.The music was so beautiful throughout this entire movie as well. Michael Giacchino's score felt like memory itself. Soft, aching, impossibly warm. His score says more in a few notes than many films say in words. Every time it returned, it felt like Ellie was there gently reaching across time and reminding Carl (and us) that love leaves echoes.I've cried at Disney movies before.. I mean Lion King wrecked me as a teenager LOL. But this one? It had me in pieces. It surprised me with its deep messages about love, loss, and the courage it takes to keep going after you lose someone you love. I absolutely loved every moment of it! What Disney/Pixar movie should we watch next!?Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/qBitdQMHzdEI watched this on Disney+

NO FLIPPING WAYYYYYYY!!!!! 😭😭😭😭 Oof, this movie hits so deep. 😭😭

FigLeaf Bicarbonate

If this movie doesn't make you cry you have to be dead inside lol

TheJoeKerr

This one always gets me emotional. Reminds me of my grandfather when he lost my grandmother. I know he was sad and lonely and I tried to spend as much time with him as I could. He died a few years later but I loved those years I got to spend with him telling me all kinds of stories.

The Dingo

Bro I sometimes tear up at movies but this had me ugly crying in the theater in the first 5 minutes. I can inly imagine how DESTEOYED you felt. I need to ask, are you ok?

KJ

No one was prepared for those first 10 minutes omg. I think those alone is what won Up! Its Oscar. A truly wonderful movie. Checking against your Letterboxd account, I would highly recommend Ratatouille as a first time watch. Another great movie with a great message.

I took a date to this movie when it came out, she didn't seem to get moved. I didn't know it at the time, but that was the last person I dated. Hard to meet people in this world, so sometime, find comfort in yourself.

Daniel Morgan

Awe. 😢 Idk about anyone else, but memories sometimes be the BEST things EVER.

KJ

Red flag lol

It has been quite some time since I've seen this. In fact, I've intentionally avoided re-watching it. I imagine it will be easier to watch with your emotional support. Thanks for doing this. I probably need to watch this movie now, more than ever.

Chuckles1004

Carl and Ellie 💔💔😭😭 breaks my heart

O Jesus this will hurt lol 😭

For me, Ratatouille is the best Pixar movie (it feels like a movie Walt Disney himself would've made if he'd had computer animation), but Up is a very close second for me. Personally, I think Pinocchio and Beauty and the Beast are the best Disney films, but I would also submit A Goofy Movie as a seriously underrated classic that seems finally to slowly be getting its due.

Fred Aczon

This is Pixar at their peak. the first 10minutes has better storytelling than most romantic movies. I wasn't expecting to be a wreck at work today lol.

Giancarlo Gasparin

What a nice surprise! Lovely write up. Looking forward to watching this one. In terms of recs, I’d say Inside Out and The Incredibles is Pixar at its best.

Lastboyscout73

I really enjoyed this movie when I first saw it but I must admit, I don't plan to rewatch it only because it's so sad at times that I just don't feel like getting emotional, especially during the holidays (If you remember what I told you a while ago). It is a very good movie though.

Onno Smits

What a nice surprise! Out of the whole Disney/Pixar/animated movies stable, I'd love to see Coco (2017), Soul (2020), or Encanto (2021).

I have not seen this movie in a long time and kind of forgotten pretty much all of it and yeah that hit hard. Love Is An Awesome thing when you're able to have it and when you're not it hurts and that's all I'll say about that. It was a great watch with you and loved your emotion through it.

Heidi Elizabeth Marcum

Another excellent Disney movie pick! Thank you very much, Kali! :) Sincerely, Heidi

NinjaMidget

You're just full of surprises! This has the biggest gut-punch of a beginning I've ever seen in a disney movie.

rubberkidney

One thing I know after this movie, old man is yoked

What a beautiful and emotional movie. Except for the physics involved in what balloons can do, everything felt so real and personal. What impresses me about Pixar is how they tell these complex stories (often without explicit dialogue) in movies that are made for kids/families. They trust the emotional intelligence of their audience of all ages to connect with their story. Yes, they include things like talking dogs to keep it fun, but the underlying story has dark and real moments and it does not shy from that. Another movie that fits this theme and is probably my favorite animated movie is Wall-E. I hope it is high on your Disney animation journey.

Richard

Such a sweet, beautiful reaction 😭You got me a few times lol. Pixar’s writers and directors really are geniuses at tapping into our deepest emotions, and what could be deeper than soul mates, death of a loved one, and broken families. You aren’t alone, this film wrecked everyone in the theater in the first 10 minutes. Thank you for these amaaazing emotions, it’s why we’re here.

There are so many life lessons here. - The simple things that we do are what our kids remember. They do not need to be extravagant. Pax et Bonum

Not sure what you've seen but Ratatouille and Incredibles are my favorites. Incredibles might genuinely be my favorite superhero movie.

McShades

Awesome surprise!!! This is one of my all time favorite Pixar movies... I remember seeing this when it first came out, I was much younger, I enjoyed it but something about being older and watching this now really hits differently, I found myself a bit more emotional watching it a 2nd time... When your young, you think you'll live forever, but as you get older your realize life is very short and precious... As Ferris Buller said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it"

James Park

One of the very few Disney movies i never saw, thanks Kali. I seem to be crying more now im watching movies with you, im blaming you, hehe its all good though. I loved this movie Disney have definitely been dropping the ball lately with their new movies, the older stories definitely have more emotional weight, you'll have to add inside out to your list and MEGAMIND is a must watch.

PG Modehouse

This movie hits me like a ton of bricks every time. I've since rewatched this at least 5 times, and each time a different line resonates with me. "I liked that curb.... That might sound boring, but I think the boring stuff is the stuff I remember the most."

M1 Maz

The music! Having never watched this movie before, I've heard its theme so many time on instagram that I just assumed it was some song. So when it started playing here, I just went "Oh it's that one song!". And then I heard it again, and again, and finally realized "Wait it was from here the whole time!" LOL But anyway, like the main theme, this movie was so deeply touching, heartwarming, and adventurous all at the same time. And I think that's what I loved so much about it. This was a really fun and cozy watch on a cold night. Thanks for the reaction! Who would have thought a movie about soaring above the clouds would be so grounded :)

That first 10 minutes is a masterpiece in storytelling. In a matter of minutes, it had all the feels. You become incredibly attached to Ellie and Carl and feel like you’ve known them for years. It’s incredibly sad, but it’s also incredibly beautiful! The film is a great reminder that it’s not always about the destination. But the journey. And who you take that journey with And Carl feeling guilty all those years because he promised to Ellie they’d do all these things together. Only to find out that Ellie never felt shortchanged. Spending her life with the person she loves was the adventure 😭 Beautiful movie! Wonderful reaction!

This movie and GoW: Ragnarok have something in common. They both broke me within a few minutes after starting them. I first saw this movie alone back when it came out on Blu-ray. I was pretty dehydrated by the end of the movie. Like you said when Carl saw the rest of Ellie's Adventure Book, it wasn't about the destination, but the journey. I feel him not being able to let her go was tied to him wanting to fulfill that promise to her, even after she was gone. Him seeing that he was the adventure with her, and her telling him to have a new one, he was able to loosen his grip and accept Russell and Dug into his heart. This movie is so good. I'm sure it's been recommended before, but WALL•E is another movie I feel is one of my top tier Disney/Pixar movies along with Up.

Robin Holmes

The first ten minutes was like lifting your lover's face for a kiss and then kicking them in the crotch. It just hurt. Russell having a terrible father was a punch in the gut. Carl seeing the full Ellie book was a punch to the heart.

FatLittleButterfly

Toy Story 1/2/3/4 Inside Out 1/2 Wreck it Ralph 1/2 Tangled Moana Ratatouille The Incredibles 1/2 Finding Nemo/Dory Brave Raya and The Last Dragon Monsters A Bugs Life Antz Dinosaur (2000) Rest of them xD Anyways, I love the attention to details. Carl always have a square or rectangle shape associated with him, while Ellie was round. He has square glasses, square sofa, square table, Square lamp, chin, whereas Ellie had the rounder couch, lamp, and even her features. I think this is how it represent Carl as stoic and even stubborn, while Ellie was more flexible, kinder. Like the mailbox when Carl thought he had messed it up, Ellie reassured him by adding her own palm. They compliment each other perfectly.

Richard

Judging from your letterbox dvd, you've seen the majority of the greatest animated films, especially those amazing Pixar ones. A few I didn't see on there: The Iron Giant Inside Out & Inside Out 2 (Pixar) Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Mark Messer

omg I second the Iron Giant. Great movie

DragonFireCK

Has any other movie or show made you cry that much in the first 15 minutes? And it managed to do it without any words.

Dave M.

Yup... I third!

Dave M.

UP had me bawling in the theater, in the car on the way home (my mom driving), and even when we parked in the garage. Also, I cried myself to sleep. I thought this movie was so beautiful and touching. My heartstrings were being tugged at all throughout this movie. You are such a beautiful crier, by the way. Never hide such a beautiful soul. ❤️ 💕 ❤️

kaliwali

Memories are 1,000 percent the best things ever. I love that you were there for your grandfather when he was sad and lonely after the loss ❤️

kaliwali

This movie was a trainwreck of emotions! I wasn't expecting this from a Disney/Pixar but wow.. I'm still emotional about it thinking back to some of the scenes and music!

kaliwali

In the first 15 minutes?? Probably only John Wick right now, but Up was a whole different ballgame even compared to that! 🙀

kaliwali

Thank you for the recommends! Apparently I really need to see Iron Giant!

kaliwali

Oh my goodness! Looking back at it now, I see it! Usually I'm so good at paying attention to those details, but I think the first watch emotional sobbing wreck had me off my game LOL. I love that so much! Thank you for sharing & for all the recommendations!

kaliwali

LOL I have to agree. So many punches in such a beautiful story.

kaliwali

Oh man.. I feel you on the GoW comparison. Even 2018 sent me within the first 15 minutes with Laufey's funeral... Pheeewww. But yes! Exactly.. Such a beautiful story and important lessons within this. I can't wai to watch more of the Disney/Pixar movies I've been missing out on but now I'll definitely be more hesitant going in haha

kaliwali

Yesss soo many amazing and beautiful lines!

kaliwali

I'm not crying, you're crying! 😂 I'll add both to my list, thank you!

kaliwali

I need to see both of those!

kaliwali

Oh my, red flag for sure! haha that's crazy!

kaliwali

LOL I am still tearing up when I think about movie at times. But overall yes, I'm okay now! 🤣

Jose Morales

I totally understand your hesitancy, but I feel going into these movies without knowing what to expect, even the slightest, and for it to move you in such a way is amazing, even if a "tad" heartbreaking. 😊Can't wait for your future Disney/Pixar adventures.

Dave M.

Disney/Pixar will ALWAYS require tissues handy. But I’m glad you really enjoyed it!

Kal

A beautiful reaction to a beautiful movie.
