Tanjiro continues to be the purest cinnamon roll warrior I've ever seen 🤍 He doesn't just fight demons, he mourns for them. Honors them. He acknowledges their humanity even when they've lost it themselves. There is something really moving, powerful, and eye-opening about that. Strength without cruelty. Determination without hatred. It feels intention and is quickly becoming the thesis of this series so far!The tone shift after leaving Final Selection was completely unexpected, but honestly, I'm here for it. The pacing opens up. The world gets so much bigger. We're moving, traveling, encountering new types of suffering and demons. The swamp demon fight felt so clever & intensely interesting! The way Tanjiro uses his head instead of just brute force was so fun and captivating to watch unfold. He's earnest but not naive. Emotional but not weak. And I love that about him! The fights seem so much more than just slashing the sword. It's almost like a chess match, with each side contemplating their best moves to defeat their opponent. I love it!The water breathing animation is also incredibly well done! The way the sword strokes turn into literal flowing water?? It's not just insanely cool, but it also feels almost spiritual. Like his fighting style is an extension of who he is inside. Fluid, adaptive, gentle like a rolling wave until it absolutely needs not to be 😅🌊And Nezuko!!! She's way too adorable. Sweet, quiet, and restrained. Her blanket burrito had me falling in love with her so quickly lol. She's the reason Tanjiro keeps pushing forward. Their bond is the anchor of it all. Every time he protects her, every time she protects him, it reminds me that this show is not just about slaying demons and looking awesome doing it. It's also about refusing to let the darkness take the people you love.I'm trying not to compare, but since this is only my second anime series ever I just need to say that this show FEELS very different from Frieren but in the best ways! I really feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds here watching these two series together. Frieren is contemplative and still and aching. But this is FIERY. Urgent. Visceral. But yet it still cares about its themes and lets us feel their weight just long enough to feel something. I'm loving this journey so far. Eight episodes in and I feel like I understand Tanjiro's heart so clearly. I want him to succeed and keep going. I want Nezuko safe and for them to find the cure. I want to see what kind of swordsman he can really become with that black steel! If this is only the foundation of this journey, I can't imagine where we're going from here. See you all next week for more!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/mt8D-_4114AI watched this on Crunchyroll in original Japanese with subtitles

I'm gonna keep these episodes until later this evening once I've done all my chores, filled my belly with chocolate and donuts, poured myself a glass of wine and am sitting comfy... But wow, just WOW. .. I have not got enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe the quality of your write ups Kali, they've always been exceptionally good, but recently you are taking them to a whole new level of brilliance. I think that maybe, just maybe the influence of these shows is inspiring you to new heights...but whatever it is, I applaud you....your spectacularness seems to hold no bounds. Have a great evening.

mysterious leader says 5 passed but only four at end of final selection? take note. *lol nvm, of course you noticed. i should keep my comments to myself until its done. most people dont notice. this takes place in the time right before world war 1 btw, so thats why there is some modernization.

Thank you, Kali. Nearly every moment in this show makes me cry. Not too long ago I saw the first movie and I was crying throughout the whole first part. It's the music, it's Tanjiro, it's everything this show does. I've no idea why it hits this close to home. Edit: All valid questions, Kali. But rest assured that answers will come.

Your written reflections on all of the posts I have seen since joining, not just Demon Slayer, have been exceptional. Reminds me of the days of anime blogs before social media and YouTube took off. Looking forward to checking out the reaction later today when I get a chance.

rubberkidney

its sad to me that michael jackson never knew about or saw people comparing him to muzan. he would have 100% have loved that shit. mr thriller/ghosts would have totally played a live action muzan.

PaulieXP

42:22 aaaahhaaaahah you got it!! I was so hoping you'd see MJ too hahaha. I never get tired of that joke

Cary Sasaki

The live recording of this anime opening by LiSA is worth a watch. Definitely chill inducing, specifically the first take version. -> LiSA - Gurenge (紅蓮華) / THE FIRST TAKE

Tom

Lmao "that pig thing" made me laugh so hard just based on that character's personality Also lol "Michael Jackson?!" - that is a running demon slayer joke so hilarious you brought that up

Trevor Go

I had seen other creators list Demon Slayer as a reaction and had no interest in it. Thanks to your first videos, I have now binged the entire series.

DorkRunner

You mentioned that guy not being anything like Nezuko when he got turned; actually, he was. If you remember, Nezuko did try to attack and eat Tanjiro at first. Somehow she was able to regain some part of herself that allowed her to stop, but she easily could have ended up just like any other demon, especially if Tanjiro hadn't been strong enough to stop her initial attack and keep wrestling with her while trying to console and appeal to her.

Omg! I love writing these posts so much because it reminds me of posting my thoughts/day/feelings back when Xanga and Myspace were a thing. I was constantly making blogs and just writing about whatever in poetic ways that I thought were cool at the time 😅 It was also really therapeutic for me. Fast forward 20 years and here I am... Same vibe but now people are actually reading (and apparently enjoying 🙀) it! Little me would be so proud lol

kaliwali

Ahh I'm glad you're enjoying these new anime shows with me AND my writeups! I've definitely felt very inspired lately.. You can tell when I go through moments of burnout because my writeups will get shorter and shorter for a bit 🤣 But I'm glad you're loving them and the series we've been in lately!

kaliwali

I'm so glad to hear they will be answered in time!

kaliwali

LOL that's probably very true!

kaliwali

Omg I'm so surprised and laughing out loud seeing the comments and apparently this is a running joke in Demon Slayer 🤣😅 I DEF saw MJ right away haha

kaliwali

Omg now I can't wait to see why you're laughing so hard at my name for 'pig thing' 🤣 And it's actually hilarious that this is a running gag bc I def saw MJ right away bahaha

kaliwali

Ayyy let's go! That's awesome I'm glad you're loving it as much as I am!!

Seeing how humble Tanjiro is has been so refreshing! He's up and coming and so powerful, but he doesn't lose sight of matters the most. And I think his bond with Nezuko is what's grounding him. Being the older brother of the family myself, I can 100% relate! The music has continued to amaze me so much! Both in this and Frieren. Being new to anime, I've immediately loved the music so much. And now thinking and realizing that so many of my favorite video game soundtracks are from Japanese composers, I totally get it!

Sky Quest Music Official

The phrase you're thinking of is "Don't shit where you eat" 🤣 Also, i am 100% going to refer to Muzan as Michael Jackson from now🤣 I had a feeling when he kept appearing in the intro, and he had that very sinister look to him that red eyed MJ here was gonna be our main antagonist.

Morah-SDG

Yeah, I'd say one of the only sorta big faults to this show is the kinda big quick rush they go through in this section of the story to introduce Muzan and his importance to the series. It's good for a show to have a quick pace, but this is one element I felt kind of got blown by really quick. But that's just how it be, and the show still just gets better from here on!

Amos Koh

it will be so worth it for you i know it!

kaliwali

Ooo I need to check that out 👀

Robert da Spruce

Hi Kali I’ve been watching your reactions to this show using the sync version. But I noticed my copy goes out of sync with yours occasionally Are you streaming off Netflix? Not all the time. But sometimes things like the end credits song will be a few seconds shorter. Sometimes longer. Even some spots during the show itself I also noticed your subtitles are sometimes slightly different than mine. You’ll comment on a word they use. But mine didn’t use that exact translation Not a huge deal. As I can get it back in sync. Just an FYI P.S. only seems to be happening on this show

kaliwali

Ooo interesting 🧐 I'm watching this on Crunchyroll so that could be the issue? Also if you're watching in Dub that could be the problem with the words not really matching up with what I'm reading. I'm not sure if you're up for a crunchyroll subscription but that could help with the sync time issues (possibly, not 100% sure!) But thanks for bringing it to my attention! Sorry you're having troubles 🙀

Robert da Spruce

I see I don’t have crunchyroll. I’m guessing switching over to Netflix wouldn’t be an option? As far as the subtitles go. I’m watching the original Japanese with English subtitles. But depending on who’s doing the translating, I guess you can get slightly different results

Cuore

She said, "Michael Jackson?!" lol

Space Crow

everyone had the same reaction first seeing muzan lol

Andre Harry

1:25:25 Kali's introduction to anime is now complete haha.

Kal

Not gonna lie, that "Michael Jackson?!" Out of the left field gave me a good laugh

Holy Arathi

Cool bit of context they never say in the show, but Muzan’s wife is the only human he was close to and didn’t kill. Granted he married her to blend into society but even when he leaves her he doesn’t kill her or the daughter. Almost as if he likes her enough as a person to not treat her like cattle.

Holy Arathi

Don’t worry you’ll learn…. Well kind of why he went after Tanjiro’s family. They don’t straight say it but as you go through the show they drip enough info to kind of determine why he did. Also Muzan’s the most human like out of all demons, like vampires that have been around for 1000 years don’t need to feed much. Kind of like that.

20 16

Holy spoiler pls stop talking Jesus Christ

Holy Arathi

What are you talking about? It doesn’t spoil the plot, protagonists or the journey. All it does is add a bit of context to Muzan as a character that is never explained in the show.

Clark Kent

Don't watch animes on Netflix, they have very bad English subtitle, and worse on some shows there are missing parts, it's criminal. Crunchyroll is the best and accurate version.

Ryo Kurosaki

Fun fact ,the guy at the Final Selection that was grabbing the girls hair demanding his Katana? he has the same voice actor as Himmel in Frieren (in the japanese version of both shows)
