I am not okay after these first three episodes, guys.I knew that what happened in the end of Season 2 would hit Gi-Hun in the worst ways. But this? This was so hard to watch. The man we knew before.. The one clinging to decency, empathy, to the idea that maybe there was a way to survive without becoming the worst version of himself and to help others to do same. He's lost. He slipped right through the cracks of the game into the darkest places.Watching him kill someone not out of survival, but out of revenge, genuinely shook me. Once you cross that line, there's no pretending anymore. You can see it immediately on his face after. Not relief. Not release. Just a hollow realization that something inside is forever gone. Then the wave of self-blame hit him once again. He carries every death like a ghost strapped to his back. The hide and seek game was terrifying. The lighting, the rooms, the maze of suffocation. It was pure nightmare fuel. It wasn't about just hiding and seeking. It turned into trust, fear, timing, and inevitability. Every corner was a trap. I found myself barely breathing through most of it. Then the baby???I genuinely don't have the emotional vocabulary to describe how I've been feeling after witnessing all of that. Episode 2 has been one of the hardest episodes I've ever seen in Squid Game so far. I sobbed. I can't even write about it fully right now because it hurts way too much to think about all over again.I'm honestly so nervous for the final 3 episodes of this season...But I'll see you all next week for the end! 🙀😪Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/GeZ1vUinxYoI watched this on Netflix

I've been waiting so anxiously for you to reach S3 Kali as that's the only season I'd never seen up to now... I'm still excited to get straight into these episodes, but after reading your write up, I think I need to emotionally prepare myself first ( and grab a box of tissues ) before pressing play. Thank you so much for venturing into this world, it's been an journey to remember. Hope you're having a spectacular weekend Kali..

The VIPs sound like a bad English Dub

Kelly Melvin

I am not the biggest season 3 fan, but if there’s one thing this season got right, it was episode 2. The hide and seek game was a standout and the episode as a whole was intense all the way through. It was really well done. For me it’s the second best episode of the entire series right behind the marbles episode in season 1. My only complaint for the episode is how they handled Dae-ho’s character. It feels like he got turned into a plot device for Gi-hun to kill. So much wasted potential with his character.

Black_TYGR

I feel the same. not sure why the character arc for Gi-Hun was handled that way. we have a few more episodes remaining. We can do it and move on haha. I found myself watching the movie Legend after this reaction…hahaha! hang in there, Kali.

Regarding the VIPS acting/delivery in this series its mostly translation style. Yeah, the big, theatrical style common in Korean dramas can feel jarring and over-the-top once it's translated into everyday English delivery, which makes it come off as campy or straight-up cringe when peformed by English speaking actors. A lot of the lines come across as awkward or like they were run through Google Translate (or written by non-native English speakers, which they are lol). Also even though the actors speak in english, in editing they still "dub" over their voices with different English speaking actors. Its also a stylish choice. The VIPS are intended to be cartoonishly evil which is a completely different tone then the other well acted scenes. Basically the VIPS are making fun of the west ha.

It's so strange watching this after just recently finished watching season 3 myself (around the time you finished season 1! I watched the show as it was released then took a break between season 2 and 3 so with me following this reaction series my brain has scramlbed different episodes together. Kali be sweating like a full body workout xD

Nomyrose

BTW don't know if you know this already but the actor that plays the front man, a.k.a Player 1 is the voice actor for Gwi-ma in Kpop Demon Hunters, the Demon King!!

You know, after watching season 2 end with you last week, I felt we couldn't get lower than rock bottom right? Right?? Oh well.... I guess not LOL. I'm glad that in doing the 3 episode arc this week, I could see some of their humanity begin to return. Because it was GONE in the first two. Just about everyone who survived the maze did so by leaving their soul behind in there. It was such a compelling, well done, yet agonizing to watch episode! And I had a feeling this season would hit with so much tragedy because we've gotten to know more of the supporting cast so much more closely than the original season 1. Can't wait to see how this ends next week!

M1 Maz

The dub... that's totally what it is! I'm watching this for the first time too, and I could have sworn I saw their lip sync not line up sometimes. So knowing it was all an artistic choice makes so much more sense now. Their lines and their delivery felt like the old PS1 Resident Evil games if that makes sense LOL. Thanks for the explanation :)

Dave Morgan

After watching all 3 seasons, I gave season 1 9/10, season 2 9.5/10, and season 3 10/10. I can't wait until you get to the final episode.

Gi-hun's journey from the end of S2 is so interesting, because I believe he really wanted, deep down, to go down in a blaze of glory during his uprising. He may have wanted to stop the games and bring justice, but he also was kind of courting a death-by-fire on some level, to right the wrong of the failed uprising he was part of in his past. Once he comes out of the coffin here, he's basically experienced "ego death", a total dissolution of the self he had clung to for so long, and is not simply carrying the dead on his back like "ghosts" as you said, but in some ways a living ghost himself. His fall to his lowest point in the maze, his surrendering of his one remaining form of moral dissent, the games have finally stripped him of his last shred of hope. But the thing about true ego death is, once you've stripped everything away from a person like that, what remains? What is left for him to cling onto? Who, deep down, is Gi-hun at his core? You'll find out!

Fried Poptarts

Its English dub over English actors so that's why its a little awkward. They are basically poking fun at when say America does a Godzilla movie and has bad dub over Japanese actors. Its a deep and heavy show with corny "muahahaha we are evil" villians lol. It's more so for the Korean audience entertainment making fun of us. Its expected that Americans/English speaks will hate it or get offended even. Whether its good or not is entirely subjective but it was an intentional choice.

Cameron

Have you ever considered writing a book? I'm always captivated by how well you tell a story.

Joe Blankenship

Yeah, I enjoy reading the little summaries she writes. It better be her writing. If I find out she's using AI, it'll be an F for the semester, and I am not joking.

Camron

Completely right about the acting of the VIPs. Sounds like a bad dub, but appears to just be them speaking.

Brad

I half expect them to wake up with a neatly folded "player 457" onesie next to the baby. I've been to a couple Asian countries. They have some stereotypes about other races. It never offended me though. I always thought it was funny. But that's why they make the VIP's voices sound so ridiculous and cheesy. It's no different from older movies when they made fun of Asians. All in good fun lol

Woohah

The acting of the VIPs are my only major gripe on an otherwise excellent series too. I don't know. It might have been intentional since a lot of English-speaking roles in Korean drams are the same way . But they definitely dubbed over one or two of them for this one, esp the Asian lady who is hands-down the worst.

Kelly Melvin

Yeah and honestly I can’t even just blame the acting. Like clearly the acting is bad but the writing for these scenes is awful too. Even if good actors were in this role it would still be super corny. Regardless if that was the directors goal, it was a very odd writing choice. It just doesn’t fit in with the vibe of the show

CK12341

No, some of them actually are dubbed. Why? I couldn't fucking tell you lol. But I do remember when the first season came out and the only major criticism was also how bad the English actors for the VIPs were, there were some responses from some of those actors since they got some much shit. A couple of them said that the whole production and direction for the English actors was pretty off and not very good. Apparently, they didn't have really any way to communicate with the director because they didn't have much in the way of a translator and when some tried to say the script sounded off or a little rigid they were told no, to just read it exact the way it is. So who knows. It would make sense though. Although, the dubbing is just ridiculous lol

Cameron

Geez it's not that serious.

James Park

This is a great season but it's gut wrenching to watch Kali get heartbroken by it all

JamesonCourage

If I had to bet money, I would definitely bet it is using AI to some degree, as I am not personally anti-AI and have some moderate exposure to it. It's not close to a deal breaker for me, as I watch her for her heart and her reactions, but I do skip the summaries because of it. Of course, as someone who made a living playing poker for a bit, I know that I don't always win my bets. So who knows, you know?

kaliwali

Sigh. I know with such an AI heavy world it's hard to believe what's real. These summaries come straight from my heart and mind. I pour a lot of time, love, and effort into these post-watch thoughts. This isn't the first time I've been accused of using AI for my write-ups. Probably won't be the last.. But I think from here on I'll probably just keep them in a journal of my own going forward because it hurts my soul to see so many accuse me of using AI just because "how can someone write like this in 2026". I love technology, but I hate what it's doing to humanity.

Cameron

It's really sad that people are so mean. I've seen a lot of content creators get so jaded from the constant harassment. Your geniune insight and kind nature is my favorite part of your content.

JoyBoy69

He didn't get over there fast, that was a different Asian man yes they looked similar but you can see him checking his number so he knew it wasn't him. Speaking about 1:05:40 into this reaction

kaliwali

It's crazy that I DID NOT realize this until you said it! 🙀

JoyBoy69

Hehe just glad I can help!!😁 thank you for all your hard work on these reactions!!

Cameron

"It feels like it's all for nothing now." Yeah as much as I love the show I couldn't shake that feeling either. At the end of the first season it felt like there was a clear message, perhaps even a hopeful one.

James Park

I get where you're coming from about the VIP's their voices sound cheesy and dubbed the script sounds strange compared to the Korean maybe script is translated for them I'm not sure

PG Modehouse

If I were to guess why the baby's father, Myung-Gi, has been avoiding Jun-hee, it's because he feels ashamed to face her after stabbing Hyun-Ju, the woman who was transitioning, in the back while she was standing at the door to their hiding room. He killed Jun-hee's friend and protector.

David Trumble

As a Story Artist in animation, an industry that's constantly being existentially threatened with the mediocrity and exploitation that AI brings, I'm obviously no fan of the technology and it's rampant over-use, especially on Youtube. However, I think anyone who listens to Kali's spoken reviews in the video, off the cuff, could tell you what is written in her summaries is in her voice. The worst part of this day and age is that there's such a heavy saturation of this mindless, uncanny soup that it's hard to know who's really putting the effort in, but to my eyes she's basically writing what she has expressed verbally, and so what need does she have for such a redundant tool? Writing, just to write, is a joy, a mindful exercise that actually requires presence, patience, it can almost be considered a meditation, because you can't be doing five other things at the same time, and there are still those of us out there who really derive satisfaction out of a well-composed, deliberate composition. And, I'll just say, while you've every right to decide not to share your summaries from now on, I think that would be a shame, because a lot of us enjoy reading them. Do what makes you happy, don't the let the haters grind you down.

Cameron

It doesn't even matter AI or not, it's ridiculous that she can't merely express her thoughts (which is the whole reason we are even here) without a debate about the authenticity of her words.

Giancarlo Gasparin

Yeah, the VIPs are so cartoonishly evil that it takes me out of it as well. Like, yeah, let's put the baby in the game 🙄. That's the problem with shows like this that rely so heavily on shock p0rn. You tend to run out of room real quick when "moar shok" is needed.

Woohah

No no, don't let such silly acusations be a discouragement! As someone mentioned earlier, anyone who's watched Kali's reactions should obviously know what she writes is genuine. But also, I think you're one of the best reactors on YT not just for the real reactions which a lot of us can feel but also your reviews and thoughts are expressed so well.

Valdemar Bajdar

Didnt want to reply or post comments here, but here I must. Fully agree. VIPs was one of very few things that weakening feeling of Squid Game show. In both, season 1 and 3, they are more like caricatures, or childish sociopaths with lots of money. I hoped from some people like Oh Il-nam.
