I'm so sad that this Season has already come to an end! It feels like it was here and gone in the blink of an eye (which also seems very fitting in a way). I absolutely LOVED my time in Frieren and I'm honestly so happy I decided to start here with my anime journey. I think the First-Class Mage Exam arc ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire story. Underneath the competitive tests, strategy and incredible magic battles, there was something so much deeper about this entire exam. A reflection on what magic means to different people and how the world has evolved so much since Frieren first walked through it centuries ago. The lore drops on Serie and Flamme were so fascinating!Learning who they both truly are and their connection to Frieren's journey was eye opening. Serie represents this ancient, almost untouchable idea of magic. Power, mastery, control. But Flamme believed in something radically different. That magic should belong to humans. That it could become something personal and expressive rather than something only the ancient elite can possess. What I really loved was the realization of how deeply Flamme shaped Frieren. Even if Frieren never recognized it until much later. Until after the Hero's journey ended, until after Himmel was gone. It feels like Frieren spent centuries carrying those teachings quietly insider her without truly understanding the weight of them until she took the journey she was destined to take. The final test had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. At first I thought the test would be too biased and pointless and completely unfair. But as soon as I realized what Serie was actually measuring, it made complete sense. When Fern meets Serie, it almost felt like watching two completely different philosophies collide. Serie respects power and talent, and Fern proves that she has both. There's recognition there, even if it is a bit cold. But when Serie measures Frieren, you can almost feel the thick history in the air. There is this unspoken tension between them. Frieren being Flamme's student, Flamme being the one who challenged Serie's worldview centuries ago, and Frieren continuing that legacy in ways she might not even consciously realize. Their interaction felt like unresolved conversation that has been echoing on for centuries.Through the memories of Flamme and Serie, I realized Frieren was never taking this exam seriously from the start. While everyone else was fighting, stressing, pushing themselves to pass.. Frieren was just simply observing. Watching and learning. Quietly taking in how far human mages have come since the era she remembers. It started to feel like a teacher sitting in the back of the classroom. Smiling softly while the students surprise her with what they've learned. It was such a beautiful but subtle shift in the way I saw Frieren taking the mage exam. She has grown so much since the Frieren we knew at the beginning of this story. She's still quiet, reserved, and still ancient in perspective.. But you can feel her slowly becoming more connected to the people she walks beside. Smiling more. Taking in the moments more deeply than before. And that's why I think the ending of this season felt so perfect. No massive cliffhangers. No explosive final battle shaking the world and making us feel FOMO until Season 2.The exam ends, the road continues, and Frieren begins another journey with her companions. The same way so many of her journeys have begun before but in a completely different light. This story has such a peaceful confidence in its storytelling. It doesn't need to shout to be powerful. It just quietly lets you walk beside these characters until you realize how much you deeply care for them. I loved this journey so much. And I'm so excited to begin Season 2 with you all next week!Thank you so much for joining me and maybe even taking the plunge into your first anime as well! I genuinely feel like I've fallen in love with this medium and found another place to call home. I can't wait to keep exploring more stories like this together! See you all in more magic, journeys, and quiet beautiful moments next week!I can't wait 🤍Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/tjJ0MLevtmkI watched this on Crunchyroll in original Japanese with subtitles

Wow !!!. Can't believe we've reached the end of season 1 already..... it's gone so fast. Wish I had a Men In Black Neuralyzer so I could wipe my memory of it, so I could watch it again from episode 1 as if it was for the first time. I can't thank you enough Kali for starting this journey and sharing this beautiful and magical adventure with us all. It's been truly wonderous.

As someone who is VERY into anime you frankly chose an incredible starting point. Frieren is one of finest shows out there. The animation is wonderful, the characters are complex and loveable, the pacing and tone are so unique and interesting, the story is profound. I'm so glad you gave this series a shot and liked it! A fantasy story for the ages if you ask me.

rubberkidney

you will chew through season 2, next up hunter x hunter? berserk? dan da dan?

Kase

I recommend getting into Attack on Titan!

Resident german here. If you didnt know here are some translastions for Character names in this arc. Lawine = Avalanche. Kanne = Can /jugg( Maybe because she "Can" be better than she believes or because you can store water in a can and she uses water magic idk) Übel = evil or to feel sick/ill Denken = to think Ehre = Honour Laufen = To run Land = Land/Country (No idea why he is called that just as mysterious to me as Kanne) Genau = Most likely precise Richter = Judge or its based on the richter scale to determine the severity of earthquakes which makes sense considering his magic is all about using earth and rock. Wirbel = Could be vertebrea (definitely not) but most likely it means Whirl as in Whirlwind. Sense is a fun one because translated 1 to 1 it means scythe which wouldnt really make sense. But there is a commonly used figure of speech in germany which goes "jetzt ist sense" or 1 to 1 translated "Now its scythe" and it means to make a cut and stop your current activity either because you want to stop or because its impossible to proceed. A fitting name for someone who has failed every test taker she has had. Overall names in Frieren are really on the nose and fitting like 90% of the time and i love that.

Would be awesome to see March comes in like a lion after this

It's highly likely that the spell used on fern by freirien was last used on the Demon king to give you a idea of how strong it was .

mitchhamilton64

the shot as himmel is saying "it would be embarrassing when we meet again" with him going into a while light. is the same memory frieren was thinking of when she was at his grave crying. im the same way with watching shows, i just binge all the episodes if i can. with season 2, ill break my rule when you start which isnt bad since theres only a few episodes left. when frieren created that field of flower spell for himmel, notice when he called it beautiful he was looking at her. idk if its the case but frieren says its been 80 years when she was forced to use that move and its been 80 years since the demon king had been dead. coincidence? 👀 idk what it is but serie in the opening with the fading in her background of the different time periods is weirdly satisfying. her starting "Do you know what her favorite spell was?" always gets me teary eyed. despite her off putting demeanor she did care a lot about flamme. her reminiscing about her with another person that knew her is evidence of that, as well as eventually wanting to lead humanity into magic like flamme wanted. btw, the way frieren looked when serie's name was mentioned way back in the stille arc is because that was the first time frieren had heard the serie was now the head of the guild. its not shown in the anime which makes me sad but methode went against ferns replica and won. it seems like it was quite the battle though. also, i dont think that old man trained stark. when we first see him saying the same thing to stark frieren asks who that man was and stark says "i dont know. he just comes and says the same thing to me." i forget her name, erhde or something? the one who went against fern during the stille test, at the end she was introducing her grandfather to her group. in that stille arc she said her grandfather was a first class mage who happened to be the one that challenged frieren. also lernen stopped the fight because he wanted to do a surprise attack, but she lived and formally he challenged her to a duel. also notice that his spells easily broke through her defenses, so much so to injure her. obviously frieren was holding back but thats gotta show a glimpse of his power.

Shane

I think when it comes to Serie, it's both the relationship of a teacher & a little bit as a parent too. She wants her students to surpass her, that's why she wishes she met Denken when he was younger, why she wanted Fern, she would have been able to build them up so much. I think her students are "disappointments" in that she herself was not able to teach them enough, rather than they were not able to learn enough, she's sad she can't train them anymore because they're gone or will be soon. She's so like Frieren with Himmel that she doesn't really know how to express her emotions well, so it comes off as cold, it's her frustration and grief at the short sparks of human lifespans. But like Flamme preparing her journal for Frieren, she knew exactly how Serie would react to her will, she understood how she felt. Also of note - Only first class mages can enter the north, can you imagine those two girls (ice and water) beating Quaal, the Zoltraak demon? So in that sense Serie gatekeeping makes her seem a lot softer, she didn't want to risk mass certifaction to preserve the "elite" nature of magic sure, but also so that weak mages weren't wandering into battlefields they're wholly unprepared for.

PaoloGP

i recommend Vinland Saga and Journal with Witch for more deep subjects like Frieren, they would suit you!

Imagine having the potential to heal suffering people with healing magic and some boomer elf says no.

"Full metal alchemist: brotherhood" Is another masterpiece of an anime I recommend! Fun Fact: "Full metal alchemist: brotherhood" was the highest rated anime of all time on a community website called "my anime list" for a full decade before being dethroned by frieren in 2024 after its S1 finale.

PG Modehouse

1000 years after Flamme's will, Serie ended up doing exactly what Flamme asked, by running the Continental Magic Association. She's not gatekeeping. This is after all, a place for mages to study magic. The only difference being that levels of education are ranked. My understanding of the ranks are as follows: 3rd class mages are like a bachelor's degree. 2nd class mages are a master's degree. 1st class is a PhD. After that, if you remain with the CMA to study under Serie, you're doing postdoctoral research lol 😂

Sankis

Seconding Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It's another masterpiece from a little over 15 years ago. Fantastic characters and storyline.

PG Modehouse

When someone says "don't imagine a pink elephant," Ubel ACTUALLY doesn't.

PG Modehouse

Not sure if you caught this or not, but Lernen didn't notice the fluctuations or suppression in Serie's mana. That's why he mistakenly said Frieren is equal to Serie. Her suppressed mana looks like Frieren's maxed out mana release. Lernen couldn't see it for the same reason that someone standing in Trafalgar Square can't see England.

PG Modehouse

Lernen could beat Frieren. Serie said as much. And per Frieren, Serie's intuition is always right. The reason he stopped is because Frieren told him Serie will remember him even if he doesn't make his mark on history. Serie loves all her students. She wishes they lived as long as her so they could reach her level or even surpass her. Can you imagine how lonely it is at the pinnacle of magedom, at the "height of magic"? Serie is the closest thing on this world to a deity.

kaliwali

I actually went on a super long reddit deep dive into this whole Lernen vs. Frieren topic late last night 😅 While I do think Lernen could give Frieren a good run, I don't think that he could actually beat her... But I think it is a very similar discussion to Iron Man vs. Captain America or Superman vs. Thanos, etc. At least in my opinion! In my headcannon though, I think there is a lot that Frieren holds back and tricks up her sleeve we haven't ever seen. I mean replica Frieren almost demolished Fern when cornered for survival. So idk. Could Lernen defeat Frieren? Maybe... But I think it is one of those fights that could go either way but I do heavily lean towards Frieren winning in the end 👀

PG Modehouse

That's the Goddess's magic, practiced by priests. Not humanity's magic. She's not stopping anyone from studying magic. She's giving out degrees and a granting you a wish for whichever spell you want. otherwise you can learn the spell on your own.

kaliwali

LOL this thought has crossed my mind so many times since they introduced Serie's lore

mitchhamilton64

AOT is my favorite anime but it is a HEAVY anime. demon slayer is too, in a way, but unlike demon slayer they dont have a screeching, annoying, "comic relief" that just ruins the tone of the show that i just wanna freaking choke to death! my point being that if she does, just a heads up about its tone and heavy, depressing themes.

kaliwali

So from my understanding (and I could be wrong for sure!) But it seems like there are some elite spells that are kept under lock and key by Serie. She hoards a huge amount of magical knowledge including elite healing magic. There are still spells to discover in ruins, dungeons, grimoires, etc. But many of the most powerful spells only exist with her. Which makes her approval extremely important. The episode that drops this I've watched about 4 times now trying to make sure I understand correctly because a lot of people kicked back saying she isn't truly gatekeeping spells. But it does explain that she is in fact keeping the more elite spells under her protection and only grants access to one elite spell from that collection if you pass her tests. The show suggests a few times that many of the spells Serie has are not realistically obtainable anywhere else.

Anthony

Anyone else think Kali would really like Apothecary Diaries??

M1 Maz

This series has taught me so much about inspiration. And not its power. But rather how EASY it is to inspire people in ways you never thought possible. In ways they never thought possible. It seemed every episode we learned more about the inspiration that so many of these characters instilled in others around them and in this world. And it was such an emotionally powerful way of storytelling. On that note, the battle of Frieren and Fern against dark Frieren was such a peak moment in this season for me for that reason. Not for it's spectacle, but what it showed about those two's relationship, where it started, and how far it's come Absolutely loved everything this season had to offer and so excited for the next one!

Irrelevance - Bjorn Vanbelleghem

Thank you, Kali, for the whole season. Really enjoyed your insights and all your emotional breakdowns. Frieren turned out to be a fantastic starting point. Regret to say that I will not be watching season 2 yet. I will watch it with my brother first, once season 2 is fully released. That way we take all the waiting time before the actual waiting time between the episodes. We will binge the whole thing, maybe in 2 days. Then I'll rewatch it all with you.

Jaded_J

Methode is so underrated, she can do restrain magic, hypnosis, healing magic (Which is more of a priest skill), located all the replicas she could AND held off Fern's clone by herself.

Drift3r

It's been so fun watching your reactions to Frieren season 1. It is truly a unique and top tier anime that breaks the mold in story telling for the shōnen (anime/manga generally made for teenage boys) genre. And I can't wait to watch your season 2 reactions when you get around to diving into it. That being said, here are some suggestions for anime series and movies. This list is not in any particular order so pick and choose as you like. For the series all of them can be viewed on Crunchyroll. For the movies all of them can be seen on Amazon's Prime Video. Anime Series: Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Dub) - Pretty much the king of anime series until AoT and Frieren came onto the scene. I only recommend a dub version if it is good. This is an anime where the dub is actually very good so it's worth watching in dub. The voices are memorable and iconic for the series IMHO. Attack On Titan (Sub) - This is a series everyone should watch. Each season gets better and better and better. However I would recommend having a pen and notepad to keep track of characters but also to write down your theories and questions about the plot. Don't worry all of it will inevitably get answered. DanDaDan (Sub) - It has a little bit of everything including aliens and ghosts. You'll understand when you get around to watching it. It's good. Vinland Saga (Sub) - A story that explores the consequences behind cycles of violence and revenge. Along with what it means to be free of those cycle even if the world itself is not. Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War (Sub) - The best high school rom-com anime out there bar none. A good series to watch when you want something that isn't action/drama. Takopi's Original Sin (Sub) - Only 6 episodes long but each episode carries the emotional weight of a sledge hammer slamming down hard. Don't let the animation style fool you. This one addresses some heavy topics but it is well worth watching. Anime Movies: Silent Voice (Sub) - A coming of age story but also a story about personal redemption and forgiveness. Look Back (Sub) - A coming of age story that kind of hits. Millennium Actress (Sub) - A romance drama. Part of the "Josei" genre (anime/manga intended for adult women) of anime movies. It was directed by a legend in the anime industry named Satoshi Kon. Perfect Blue (Sub) - The best psychological horror/thriller anime made. It is also directed by Satoshi Kon. Paprika (Sub) - A psychological drama/fantasy of sorts. It's a total mind trip but also directed by Satoshi Kon. Yes I'm a big Satoshi Kon fan. Ghost In The Shell (Dub) - The anime that laid the foundations for animated cyberpunk stories before the game blew up that genre. The dub is very good but avoid the 2.0 version. Only watch the original. Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence (Dub) - It's sequel of sorts to the first G.I.T.S movie but done from a different perspective. Again the dub is very good. Princess Monooke (Sub) - A action fantasy epic that explores the conflicts between humans and nature. All of these movies are worth watching. All of them are written for adults to consume. Meaning they each explore topics and themes that would normally only be addressed in Hollywood movies for adults in the West. However in Japan a lot of impactful stories more often than not end up as anime because they have a huge market for anime, and manga, for viewers of all ages.

Drift3r

All true but as Frieren noted Serie simply doesn't know how to properly express/communicate herself to her students. Hence why she called her awkward and a "child".

Tom

Vinland Saga is such an amazing story and form of character development. Lol just masterpiece overall

Da OnlyTEEMZ

Loved the reaction! I’m glad you decided to pick this show, Not gonna lie it was the only reason why I subbed to the Patreon haha. But the way you interpret each episode is the reason why I’m staying, I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this show but yours are probably the best to watch, but if you’re looking for anymore anime shows to watch I’d love to see you react to Violet Evergarden on Netflix, it’s one of my all time favourites! But If you’re more into the romance I suggest, your lie in April. It’s a good wholesome watch.

Khepri Sun

I know it may seem surprising that Methode passed but if you think about it, it makes sense. Despite how little screen time she got, aside from Frieren herself, she's show the most diverse range of magic. She has used reflection magic, restraint magic, hypnosis magic, Zoltrack, defensive magic, and even Goddess magic (Something even Frieren can't use). Fern's clone had the jump on her yet she came out of that fight relatively unscathed. In fact with the way she was standing over Fern's clone, it's possible she was actually able to subdue it. We also know she’s very skilled at mana detection, yet when confronted by Serie, instead of being intimidated by her mana, her only thought was, “how cute and small” she was.

RogerS

It crushes me every time I watch the ending of season one. Frieren during the funeral in season 1, thinks back to Himmels words about goodbyes and how they would be embarrassing if they met again after a tearful goodbye (and thats why they are not their style).

RogerS

I think that is when Frieren really let out her emotions and started crying as that is when she realized that she would not be meeting Himmel again.

mitchhamilton64

we all know why she passed. serie is a tsundere and liked the compliment while pressured by methode's "ara, ara" energy.

mitchhamilton64

lets add, there are also toxic FMA;B fans that downvoted any show that came anywhere near to dethroning the show as number 1. not that im saying FMA;B didnt deserve being number 1, it is a great show, but it wouldnt have been number 1 for so long if it wasnt for those fans. much like how AOT's episodes were ranked higher on IMDB before suddenly a wave of breaking bad fans came in and downvoted them to oblivion.

AGGHH I'm so sad Season 1 is done already! Like i said before in discovering this whole anime world with you and holy cow its been incredible! Glad (maybe) to see my game theory on Serie was definitely wrong, the "claws" putting that royal red cape on her was not in fact a demon of any sort rather than just Senses hair😂 I think I'm so used to SO many other shows and movies having main antagonists/villains coming after them that thats who I'm always trying to look out for but this show never really focused one particular one. Theres people you're wary about but in the end doesn't seem like theres any one main one like Default Michael Jackson in Demon Slayer. I think it was a very daring move for them to do that because most shows the plots are usually driven by trying to face off against one major threat but this one, yes you have enemies here and there but ultimately they rely on the character development, personality and growth to keep drawing you back in and much to my great surpise it works! My interest in wanting to see more was based soley on wanting to see how these characters (for me Freiren in particular) developed from where they were during past events. I think the one and only thing I struggled with throughout the show is reading what exactly these characters are supposed to be feeling emotionally in any given moment. Theres a very small few of the major 0-100 moments like In Demon Slayer but otherwise their voices or facial expressions don't vary too much. You can tell here and there if their angry or embarrassed (especially angry and embarrassed 😂) But otherwise they don't show too much emotion throughout. Luckily using the music and soundtrack I was able to grasp more on what they're feeling. In fact there was a few moments like when Freiren was told she couldn't enter that ceremony I thought it was going to be allot more emotional and like frustrating but because the music was so light hearted and almost humorous sounding I was like "Oh okay, we're not too upset about this." Otherwise, I've LOVED this show and I'm SUPER excited for Season 2! I guess I am also an officially an anime fan now😂🤘

HadSkills

So glad you enjoyed the season. It’s funny seeing someone new to anime experience something like Frieren. For example many anime fans actually liked the bird test more because, as you will find out if you keep up with anime, the mage exam arc is a popular anime trope, and the bird test was a different take on it. Again i mentioned this on one of your earlier posts but this show is a master class in story development and animation, and it will spoil you once you start to see a lot of the general anime out there. There is a reason why this show is such a standout, and over time you see notice it haha especially in fantasy anime. I’m sure if you stick to viewer votes and recommendations you will have a great time but anime right now has a lot of slop cookie cutter shows haha. But the ones I’m sure you keep hearing about are all good. Can’t wait for season 2, even though it’s only 10 episodes, they are fantastic so far and I’m glad they are keeping up with the standard they set. As a fan, once you experience a beloved series crash out, it’s tragic. (My poor one punch man fans) So I’m always glad to wait for peak seasons. Also I LOVE your reaction style, so many reactors feel the need to talk over the show when they want to speak about something, while you take the show in and are always mindful to speak between dialogue. And you don’t pause or interrupt the dialogue to try and guess whats going to happen minutes before it’s explained. As a reaction enjoyer that loves seeing content I enjoy enjoyed by others I truly appreciate it, and have been watching your other movie reactions now for the same reason. Can’t wait for more in the future.

HadSkills

Also I think you would REALLY enjoy Bocchi the Rock 😁 completely different from what you are currently watching and a taste of a really fun comedy/slice of life anime

JULLIEN Nicolas

Takopi's Original Sin was my favorite anime of 2025, 6 episodes is enough to feel all the feels. Also would love her to react to the Ghost in the Shell movies and Princess Mononoke. Watching an anime from Hayao Miyazaki is just a must.

Jose Morales

This was also my first completed anime show. I really love this show. I am glad the ending wasn't Serie having some cheesy change of heart and passing Frieren. So nice that they ended with the journey continuing without it feeling like a cliffhanger. Can't wait for season 2.

Cuore

Thank you for sharing your first step into anime. I'm so glad you loved it like I did. There's something about the shared experience of loving the journey... with millions of people across the globe that makes anime special. It's really come into its own within the last 25 years or so. I don't think you could have picked a better story to start with. Frieren is a once-in-a-lifetime type of creative effort. I could be wrong though... maybe there are anime stories just as well thought out coming soon! Something I noticed this time watching through: So there's a lot of emphasis on Flamme's favorite spell to create a field of flowers right? Well "hana" is how you say "flower" in Japanese. But I was noticing in the credit song they use the word "hanashi" which is a versatile verb meaning "conversation" or "story". It could just be coincidence... but the show is so good it has me looking for even deeper symbolism like that every time I watch it. Friggin fantasting. Thanks again!

Holy Arathi

I like Serie. She comes off as cold and she kind of is but not as cold as you’d think. She legit cares about her students, humans or not. And it bothers her when they die and I think she tells herself it was on a whim so as to not feel sadder than she already does.

Sankis

Yeah, Serie seems like someone who has put up a lot of barriers to try to protect herself but is another softie at heart. I also like that the show didn't make her a villain. She and Frieren are not on the best of terms but it's mostly due to philosophical differences. I feel like a lot of shows wouldn't be able to resist making her the big bad. Granted, neither the manga nor the anime are finished but I'd be extremely surprised if anything of the sort happened.

kaliwali

Ahh that's so interesting that the bird test is a favorite amongst more seasoned anime watchers, but I didn't get the trope 😅 I'm honestly really glad I started my anime journey with Frieren! And I'm definitely excited to check out more. I keep hearing that anime can be really hit or miss with certain series.. But I'll keep listening to you all on where I should go next haha And thank you so much for hanging out here for my first anime and even some movies now! I'm glad you've been enjoying the vibes 🤍

kaliwali

Thank you so much for joining me in my first anime season! I'm so glad I started off my journey with Frieren. I think it definitely gave me a really deep appreciation for the art, love and creativity they put into these stories! And thank you for sharing that realization! I wouldn't be surprised if that was placed there intentionally since this show absolutely loves to sprinkle in little bits of lore everywhere no matter how small the detail 🌸

kaliwali

Ahh it's so true the emotional difference between frieren and demon slayer! I totally get what you mean! But you picked up on the emotions the same way I figured out how to: through the beautiful music! ✨ I'm glad you loved this journey as much as I did!! See you in season 2!

kaliwali

Omg this is such a beautiful realization!!! I think I was so sad that Frieren Season 1 was over that I was too busy panicking to realize the callbacks LOL. So thank you for sharing! 🤍

kaliwali

Thanks so much for hanging out with me for my first anime season!! It was so much more than I ever expected.. And I'm definitely addicted to this entire medium now thanks to the beauty and wholesomeness of Frieren ✨ I'm glad you'll be sticking around for more of that journey tho! I'm glad you've been loving your time here so far! I keep hearing Violet Evergarden mentioned so I really need to watch that one soon!

kaliwali

Ahh awesome list! Thank you so much for hanging out in Frieren Season 1 with me! A few of these have made it on my google notes list, but a few I haven't heard mentioned before so I'll definitely add them 👀 And someone mentioned it, but I have seen A Silent Voice and loved it! My reaction is here on Patreon :)

kaliwali

I'm realizing this too! Yes she is!

kaliwali

I totally understand! I hope you enjoy Season 2 with your brother!! I can't wait to watch it, too 🤍

kaliwali

Omg. You're right! Thank you so much for the beautiful callback 🥲 It was definitely the same memory Frieren was thinking of at his grave.. Thank you so much for hanging out with me & sharing so much insight! I'm actually really sad hearing that the fight between Methode and Fern was included in the manga but not the anime. I have been wondering in the back of my mind what happened with Fern's clone and Methode. But thought that they defeated the monster before she had a chance. I would have looooved to see that fight and that also changes Methode's power in my mind so much. I knew she had to be pretty incredible, but defeating Fern? 👀🔥 And that's hilarious about the old man. Just wandering the woods and bothering Stark LOL. He seems like one of those guys that odd stuff just constantly happens to. He's a magnet to it. Hilarious 😅 See you in Season 2! I can't wait 🤍

kaliwali

I saw you got crunchy roll but I had trouble finding the comment where you mentioned it so I could finally reply 😅 I hope you've been enjoying it over using Netflix for the animes! No more syncing issues as well which has to be nice!

kaliwali

I'm so glad you loved the journey as much as I did, Terry! It really was such a beautiful introduction to anime for the both of us 🥲🤍 Season 2 here we come!!

Michael

The finale few episodes are so good. I'm very happy to have rewatched the episodes, and actually enjoyed it a lot more having your reaction a long the way.

Robert da Spruce

No cliffhanger. No final boss showdown. Just a quiet end to this chapter and on to the next 😊 This is a very unique show! Not sure I’ve seen anything like it really. I really enjoyed this show! And watching it along with you has made the experience even more enjoyable

Sankis

Bocchi is amazing. As someone with Social Anxiety myself it is in my opinion one of the best depictions of it I've ever seen.

James

huge shoutouts to your content i found you off a random youtube video right around the time when you started posting your frieren reacts and i wanted to stay along for the ride I especially like your detailed write ups about your experience and definitely think it's a huge benefit for your content and audience kudos for the extra effort it's noticed and appreciated

inkreydible

frieren's vulnerability is basically the same as if you blinked every time you shoot a gun. 😭

inkreydible

also when frieren said "it's been about 80 years since I had to use that", 80 years ago was the death of the demon king ;)

inkreydible

You might really like Bocchi the Rock! It's the same director as Frieren :)

inkreydible

I think the reason lernen gave up on fighting Frieren is because of what she said about the true nature of Serie. Even though Serie is so deep into this mentality of making the most efficient use of magic and pushing her students to reach certain heights, subconsciously she still has that deeper connection and actual love for each of her students since she's still able to remember their personalities and favorite spells. Serie is just too immature and 'awkward' in that sense to communicate that appreciation to her students and especially Lernen in this case, but I think Frieren opened his mind to it in that moment. I like to think they might have made up a little bit after this :) Anyway sorry for the multiple comments on one post. I also wanted to just say a quick thank you to you kali for your content, I found you right when you started watching Frieren and your more genuine, reflective reacts were comfy and really enjoyable and even helped me see the show in new ways I didn't before!! Excited that you've found how cool anime can be, it's genuinely an amazing medium. If you're looking for any recs, I think these have been mentioned before but I'd recommend Vinland Saga (similarly reflective to Frieren), Witch Hat Atelier (coming out soon), Bocchi the Rock (same goated director as Frieren), Attack on Titan (a lot darker/gritter but an amazing show), and also Toradora (an older romcom with really fun characters)! cheers <3

So... When Fern got blasted against the wall by Frieren's clone, Fern said "I can't detect a spell" and "so this is truly the height of magic." I hadn't thought about this before but it makes me think that Frieren has the ability to just manipulate raw mana without using a spell. That's the only thing I can think of anyways...

"It'd be embarrassing when we meet again" probably my favourite line in the whole show. So beautiful

Frieren teaching fern: you only need plain offence and defense magic Frieren fighting Frieren: black holes massive fireballs stars and cosmic energies lighting bolts and a zoltraak blast some 5 times the size of anything we have ever seen and some un seeable mind blast

I also thought initially that Serie was being unfair to the people she failed, but my second time around I realized she needs strong mages who can last and survive and by failing the mages she did she essentially extended their lives because they are in fact the weaker mages. She’s been around the world, fought demons and researched magic for millennia. She knows exactly what it takes to survive at the top. If anything she’s doing those mages a kindness by failing them. And I liked most of the people who failed so I felt slighted initially. But in the end I do think her judgements are fair.
