Every week I love this show more and more! The world keeps feeling bigger and bigger. The spirit world was so eerie and unpredictable. It made me realize I only understand a sliver of what this world really is. It also made Aang's responsibility as the Avatar feel even heavier than it did. Which is crazy considering his role already lol.Meeting Avatar Roku was SO COOL. Idk why but I wasn't expecting the previous Avatars to really play a role at all in what's happening now. I thought they were just old legends passed down through generations. But seeing Aang actually speak with Roku made everything feel so much more connected. Like this isn't really just Ang's journey. He isn't alone. He's a tiny part in something so much bigger and ancient. I also continue to love Zuko and Uncle Iroh. I know they're the villains LOL. But every episode has me rooting for them a bit somehow.Iroh always seems to bring this warm wisdom and humor that I can't help but love. This show just continues to surprise me. I came in expecting a fun, silly fantasy adventure. But I'm already seeing so much more than I thought I would. The characters, the world, the legends, the mythology. Every time they reveal another piece I'm so invested lol.See you all next week for more!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/v8FSaJ7w6vUI watched this on Netflix

What a perfect way to start out the morning! Thanks for the reactions as always :)

Oh what I want to say about iroh but I won’t give anything away but he is one of my favorite characters you misunderstand him completely from beginning to end but all in all he’s just that guy you love to love

Edgar Gonzalez

Oh yes Fam ✌️ We are back! 👏💪

Haha Aang and Luffy do have very similar vibes, aside from Aang's vegetarianism xD And because the Avatar follows a cycle of reincarnation, yes Roku has to be dead for Aang to exist now.

The show ends up getting so good I forget how slow it starts off, but now that Kitara is starting to learn water bending it should start to pick up. And yes, you'll get to see how layered each of the characters are in their own way. It's one of the reasons why this show is held in such high regards by so many people.

fun fact! most, if not all the animal and creature noises are done by one guy, dee bradly baker. yeah, roku died. that would be how hes aang's previous incarnation as the avatar. aang is the avatar that disappeared a hundred years ago, roku is just a visual stand in since to the world hes the last known avatar. lol i think the sickness is giving you a debuff the ending of the winter solstice part 2 is one of my favorites. just a soft instrumental, no talking, simple visual, aang sitting and thinking about his new responsibilities as sokka and katara hug him. the last episode of these 3 is a nice stopper for sure. way more lighthearted overall and i cant wait for next weeks 3. ive noticed theres weird placements on where it looks like the commercials would be, like when aang awoke in the first episode going "SOKKA!" but thats not normally where a commercial would be. its very strange. maybe its some sort of international release or something of the show, which might explain why theres a "previously on" so early in the series. idk.

They show Roku because he’s the last known Avatar. The war began shortly after him and the airbenders were all eradicated. Aang is technically the one who disappeared because he was Frozen and no one know who the current Avatar was specifically

Roku sending out a fire wave that hits all of the bad guys, and melts the chains without actually hurting the people chained up is probably one of my favorite showcases of how powerful an Avatar can be. That's such a crazy amount of precision.

thanks for the morning binge! Its not surprising that you love the show more and more since the show will continue to get better and better!

They did a great job writing all of the characters in the show to make them all feel very human and realist. All of them have very understandable motives, flaws, and strengths. What is really nice is that it never goes away: all of the characters get more developed as the story goes on, making them feel even more human. It's the same with why you emphasize with Zuko. While an antagonist, he has a very understandable motive, flaws, and strengths. That makes it easy to emphasize with him, and wanting him to succeed, even as he attacks the heroes of the story. I wouldn't recommend watching them until you're done with the series to avoid spoilers, but another channel I watch does psychological dives into a number of the characters. That channel is Cinema Therapy.

Katara being so angry about aang learning waterbending feels in line with the fact that her mom died and believed in katara as the last waterbender in their tribe when she was so young. shes probably lived her whole life feeling like she needs to be the waterbending master or her moms death would be in vain. and yes you are right about everything feeling like its happening for a reason. there is basically nothing that happens in this show that isnt because of what happens previously and causing what happens next. its just masterful fictional writing this show is so damn good ill never get over it.

LeRezwarrior

It's a great show because how human everyone is. Even rooting for Zuko and Iroh. Katara being young she gets frustrated and competitive despite being the mature person of the group. Even some of the FireNation soldiers have their moments. Also time wise he's got about just less than a year to learn all of the elements.

Now that you're watching Avatar, it would be right and proper to watch Hook. In fact, the sooner you watch it into the show, I think the deeper your appreciation for Zuko will be, as the real-life actor plays a prominent character in that movie. It’s also a classic Robin Williams movie, so you may have seen it. It does seem like it might be kind of up the Kaliwali-alley(It 100% is), maybe you haven't seen it, though. In either case, you should squeeze it in. Can we get a petition for four episodes a week? Three is just not enough. Weren't we getting four for Demon Slayer? I'm trying to remember, but I feel like we were. Are there more episodes of Avatar? I know there are three seasons, and they're about 21-23 episodes each. They're about a similar size, but man, please, can we get to four next week? That would be sweet.

There’s this hilarious YouTube channel called “Overanalyzing Avatar” where he dissects every tiny little detail of every episode to show how well thought out and planned the series really is. As well as just pointing out a bunch of funny details and little coincidences. One thing he points out for episode 7 is that when Aang first ends up a spirit, he’s still carrying his staff. Even tries to fly with it before he realizes he can’t airbend. But once he goes to ride Roku’s dragon and eventually returns to his body, he doesn’t have the staff anymore. He left it on the floor after failing flight. So for the rest of the show whenever he uses his staff he’s TECHNICALLY carrying a soulless husk of a stick because he never brought its spirit back. It’s completely ridiculous but also hilarious to think of his stick as having a spirit that Aang just completely abandoned and now he wields some soulless abomination 😂

Up to this point, I've only watched shows that I have never seen before with you. But now I'm watching you watch something that I have seen before, and I understand what people mean when they say it's so hard to not be like "YO. TRUST ME YOUR GONNA DO THIS OR THIS IS GONNA BE LIKE THAT AND KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR THIS" 🤣 I'm so excited for you to see all the moments this show has to offer.

BattleMaster

I agree, the characters are so Human. While rather virtuous, Katara has a great admiration for her people's culture, the water tribe, and holds it in very high regard. So when a scroll of her peoples sacred art is plundered and sold by pirates she is compelled to liberate it and return it to hands that would respect it. Much like in episode one where she chastised Sokka when he spurned her water bending, telling him it is a traditional cultural art worthy of respect.

"Prince Zuko, you're really going to get a kick out of this. Your honor was in my sleeve the whole time!"

Regarding "the Avatar disappeared..." The Avatar is an important world figure and when the war was beginning, Roku had died and the next reincarnation, Aang, went missing. No one but his fellow monks knew that he was the next Avatar. So to the world, there was suddenly no Avatar they could turn to.

kaliwali

My schedule is what I can handle in a week :)

rubberkidney

Well, 100% put Hook on the "Can Handle It" list. I don't know, I'm just saying it would be awesome if you could do four eps. Also, since I have you here, you should definitely watch X-Men '97 before you continue with your X-Men watching. Listen, kali, I'm not trying to push you. I'm just saying that's what my heart's desire is.

Yolanda Castillo

I think Roku is in the intro vanishing the way he is, is because usually the Avatar's identity isn't revealed to even the Avatar themselves until they turn 16. So Roku was the last avatar the world got to know, since obviously Aang didn't start traveling the world to train as the avatar yet. Everyone just knew some air bender out there was the avatar because of the law of the reincarnation cycles. And once all the air temples were destroyed by the fire nation people assumed who ever the Avatar was probably died and no one ever revealed themselves to be the avatar since. So once Avatar Roku died no avatar was ever seen again.

Yolanda Castillo

As Aang once told her...."You still ARE a kid" lol.

UTU49

Hey, Kali, I really loved your description of these 3 episodes, and your explanation of what you are appreciating at this point in the series. Really well, written, IMO. I can't wait to see what you think of Episode 12. I guess I'll watch it... RIGHT NOW. lol.
