I swear that early on Charles sort of had thought bubbles talking about wanting to bang Jean Grey. When he was an old man and she was a teenager. It was more so him saying "he loves her" and stuff lol. Also in an early issue he pretends to lose his powers only to get them back the next issue. He also fakes his death somewhere between issue 40-50. He comes back about 10-15 issues later or so, maybe 20 issues later. So yea, Charles has always been a weird manipulative jerk.
