A cereal called Tear-tear sounds like the kind of thing that only one person remembers and then spends the rest of their life trying to prove that everyone else forgot. They possibly find others who also remember it, like a message board visited by like 13 people who share this phenomenon.

Never heard of tear-tear but I think you're on the money about it being meme'd off of a kid learning to talk. When I was a baby I called cereal "sear" and after a while it caught on the same way.

I'm clueless as to the origins of "Tear-tear", but hearing the phrase legit shook me for a minute my neighbor/nanny when I was less than 5 years old had us call her "Ter-Ter". Short for Terry, but still tripped me up to think about again.
