QOTD: On average do you recognize most of the references we make?

Comments

Colby Mazur

Yeah and the more obscure ones you usually give some context to or I can get it through context clues. Very rarely I google

Joshua Levine

Yes I recognize the references but that's because I've the years you've gotten me interested in checking out new shows to be like Arrested Development and Venture Brothers. Plus, I grew up watching a lot of the same things as Brett.

MrTheHuman

I definitely get I’d say 80-90% of your references but it may also be from watching the show for like 8 years now and whenever I don’t understand a reference I try to get the context myself or sometimes you guys are kind enough to provide context. That being said I also feel that even though I’m about 5-8 years younger than both of you I grew up as the youngest in my family which means a lot of my media was stuff from older cousins which would be the same age as you guys.

gloop

QOTD: a couple of episodes ago you guys were talking about grease etc and I was so lost for half the episode, but usually i get most of them

BellemereMaxine

QOTD: I'd say I understand about 90% of Brett's references and about 95% of Alex's. Ted will sometime throw me for a loop.

Zachawry

Brett is absolutely doing his job better than right. Dude is so funny that understanding a reference doesn't matter. Y'all beat ass.

Matthew Barr

So for QOTD I'd say i'm probably getting about 80% of the references, part of that may be for watching for years though.

Joshua Queen

I get 80-90% of the references.

JustKevinManley

The Barron Underbight episode was my intro to venture bros.

Ian Thompson

I'm in my early forties. My favorite movies to quote are the Mummy and Fifth Element. My favorite shows are like Arrested Development, Venture Bros, and Spaced. My favorite comic franchise is the X-men. You literally make this show directly for me

Fudge McGroobs

In my late 20s. Grew up outside of the US. I don't get most of the references. I can detect a bunch of references and I understand some stuff from context. I still find all the bits hilarious! They're funny because you all are having such a good time.

RetroViking

QOTD: I am an 87' man, very close to Alex's 88. I would say I got >90% of the jokes made by both of the BBs. The time that you dudes lose me is when you are more so talking about LA Zeit Geist-esq things or inside baseball talk about production stuff. Things you would expect to be missed by anyone who doesn't know that stuff first hand. Like talking about McGruff the Crime Dog and crazy pre-internet shenanigans is something I really vibe with because that was my generation.

Edward Eagerton

I get about 90% of the references. I'm not entirely sure where Alex gets the idea that the SBB audience is made up of 14 year olds.

danny axel

QOTD: Yes, for I am also OLD.

The Collective Unconscious

A lot of stuff goes over my head when it comes to the references but I started watching Venture Bros. and am about to finish it soon so I’m at least getting references more and more. Also the show is literally one of my favorites now so thanks for inadvertently turning me onto the show guys.

Art Souls

I'm 39 and get probably 90% of the references you guys make .. that I recognize as references. That said, I watched Arrested Development for the first time only a few years ago (entirely because of you two), and prior to that the number was closer to like 50%.

Kyle

really anything that isn't theatre performance related I get. Never was much into theatre

Steve

I get the question but I feel what Brett is saying. Even if I don't get the reference, the bit was entertaining nonetheless and I laughed. That being said, understanding the joke was a call back to something else moreso unlocks a memory and just adds to the experience. Growing up with a similar interest in pop culture definitely helps!

Mega

I don’t know like 80% of the references but I still laugh based on delivery alone

Bob Marthins

I definitely don't get most of the references

UnorthoD3X

I am 35. I recognize most references, but some of the more deeper cuts like quoting and naming characters, I’m lost.

Korbo

I'm 32, so not that far from you guys, but I probably miss like 75% of the references. I don't really share most of your tastes in movies I don't think, and I'm not very into comics so anything that's beyond the most basic X Men or marvel stuff, I have no idea. Don't think I ever even fully watched (any) ghostbusters. Back to the future though, I'm game. And I think brett's voice is pretty distinct when he's making a reference, opposite to what he thinks, but then again there might be many references I don't know I'm missing as well-- since I don't know the source of most of them to begin with.

FrewForAll

I’m also 39. I get probably 87% Though I haven’t seen arrested Development or all of Venture Bros

Dave P

I'm 30 and I understand a good chunk of the references. I will sometimes Google a reference you guys make, if I don't understand it, but recognize it. Like Venture brothers. Sometimes I don't remember the specific moment or episode, and will pause the video to look it up.

reese

I am 27 and honestly have a terrible memory due to mental health issues going unmedicated and undiagnosed for so long, so there is stuff I *should* get, that I just don't have the memory of anymore. Confused would be the wrong word for me. Most of the time, I don't even realize a reference is being made vs a homemade bit. Ignorant is more accurate for me, on average I am ignorant to a reference being made.

Sam Leheny

I can safely say I've gone and got familiar with several wonderful shows based on all the references you make that go over my head but sound funny.

Tyler Cauthen

I am 24 and I don't get half the references y'all make however I don't consider myself confused but entertained by your excitement and your hilarious bits/improv! Confusion is a choice and I choose to be happy listening to y'all banter and play awesome video games. Truly brings me peace.
