I grew up with getting all my video games second hand from my dad. Mostly all my games. He generally played them all first but never played any hand held games. So Pokemon was something he never played until the Switch era.

Creative Outpouring

My mom never played Pokémon with us but she would destroy us in Street Fighter 2.

First, I love the concept for this month! Second, my dad is a capital G Gamer, but I think was allergic to anything Nintendo. If it didn't involve killing aliens, he wasn't interested. He definitely had the "are you playing with your pokeymans? which one is that, lizardmon?" Attitude toward Pokemon.

Lemmy Hawkins

My mother loved the SNES and Mega Drive. We used to play Donkey Kong Country 3 all the time. She never played Pokemon, but she liked watching the games and animated show.

Mr_Moe

My mum did try mortal combat and Mario once then gave up but would like to watch sometimes . She’s 74 now

My dad use to sit me on his lap while he played Duke Nukem 3D, and later played Star Wars Dark Forces 2 and all the Lucasarts adventure games along side my brother and me. As I got older he complain that I played games too much, even though he’s the one who got me into them. Then at 68, in his retirement with nothing to do, he bought himself a ps5 and has been playing Fallout 4 and Red Dead 2, it’s been fun seeing him get back into it

Your dad is a real one. I'm 43 and I play prob more than my teenage daughters (they play a lot too, tho). In 20/30 years, retirement homes are gonna be lit...

Joshua Levine

I had the dad who would play one game. First, with my Sega Master System, he would okay Choplifter. Then, with my Gameboy he would DESTROY Tetris! Finally, for a long time he played chess on his PC until he went into a retirement home this year.

My mom would regularly play Pokemon with me and we would race every release to see who would beat it first. And my dad would play the Pokemon TCG with me at leagues every week (which is very out of character for him hobbywise). They really did a good job engaging with me and my hobbies. Also I definitely played Pocket Monster on my generic system that looked like a Penguin and had one cartridge with 500+ games.

🎶🎶“They play the shitty games that suck ass…” 🎶🎶

My parents never tried pokemon, but my dad and I played through all 4 Onimusha games when I was in high school. And those are the only games my dad really ever played.

Deconstruction JD

When i was around 8, my dad played my Gameboy color and started a new save on Gold while I was asleep. He must have realized he might ruin my game, so he woke me up while I was asleep and asked me to turn it off so he didn't ruin my game. In my sleepy stupor, I did my auto-pilot save and quit. The next day all I had was a cyndaquil and I was at Mr. Pokemon's house.

Funny enough my mom borrowed my brother's Red version and then didn't give it back, he got Yellow after so he won. She fell in love with the series and didn't miss an entry until she passed. Pokemon, Animal Crossing and the turn based Final Fantasy games are what helped bond us.

Spencer Wells

I got gifted fire red pre kindergarten, and my dad definitely played it more than I ever did. Those games are hard when you can barely read. He was pretty disappointed when I killed Zapdos and immediately saved so I could show how proud I was of beating the hard boss.

Xenau

My dad always had a passing interest. He played a lot of Tetris and some of those old Pentium games like Myst. He lost interest for a bit but now in his retirement and well into his sixties, has recently played through the whole Mass Effect trilogy and has been asking me for other sci-fi action rpgs to play.

Weather Report

We got our classic Gameboy from grandpa through circumstances I never understood cuz he definitely wasnt the type of dude to enjoy games. When I was maybe 2 or 3 I remember riding in the shopping cart at Walmart and seeing Blastoise on Pokemon Blue's box behind the glass begging my mom for the cannon turtle game. Super clear memory of that despite how long ago it was, good times. Only time my parents ever tried to play games, mom made a character on the Wii Animal Crossing and probably put a couple days worth of fishing into it. Dad got to the second zone in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 in a single sitting but never touched a console again. Did have a cool uncle who'd play the PS2 Dragonball fighting games with us though.

Questionable Toast

My parents, my sister and I would have Dr. Mario nights and play for a couple hours all together when I was like 7. My mom and I would play Pipe Dream together quite a bit. My dad introduced me to the Space Quest series and Prince of Persia. So I guess I kinda had some gamer parents to an extent.

MsDiz Storment

not really QOTD but adjacent-when my brother got the ps2 we would play the story missions of Timesplitters with our dad. Usually one of us kids and dad playing a mission. Its a great memory now, planning the levels and trying to beat hard mode. At the time it felt like we had to babysit him a bit since he wasnt terribly good at the game but I still remember it fondly

Cody

Neither of my parents play games at all on their own, but my early 60's dad will ALWAYS put down whatever he's doing to play Mario Golf with me

Justin Jacobson

So for reference, I'm 36. Roughly the same as y'all. My mom thought all games were horrible horrible wastes of time for my entire childhood. And everything was a Nintendo. The Sega, Playstation, Xbox? All Nintendo. My dad watched me play Pokemon Blue when I was in 4th grade and was like... well whatever floats your boat buddy... when Pokemon Go was a thing, my mom got into it because if was something that required her to go out and "touch grass" essentially. Because she liked the concept and gameplay of that, I tried to get her to play Let's Go on the Switch, which she thought was tolerable. 30 years and a little progress lol.

Atemuzuko - Atem

QOD: My mom has gotten WAY into Pokemon GO (she is 57) and played the Let's Go game when it came out. My dad has always played games with us and before us. Started with Doom and still plays to this day. His favorites are Mass Effect, Gears of War and the new Lara Croft games (he is 58)

Bingo Clamshell

My Mom would play the first OG Mario with me and actually got to 8-4 before I did, but I was the first one to beat 8-4 and actually beat the game.
