Model Release: Articulating Sliding Mimic Chest (Patreon)

Update Jan 18, 2026: And if one chest that is “definitely not a mimic” was not enough, this release has been expanded to also include a Monstrous Mimic Chest. It uses the same segmented column style but leans more into the true horror that mimics can be!For our first Curations By Kira release of the New Year we bring you a perfectly ordinary, completely safe treasure chest. It is absolutely not a mimic. You can trust it. Please ignore the teeth.

This is our latest articulating figure, built in the same sliding column style as the gelatinous cube from December. Makes for a great fidget toy!

In addition to the regular .stl release, we have also made a four colour .3mf project for anyone printing with an AMS or other multi material setup, with ready to use colour assignments for the wood, metal, teeth, tongue, and eyes.

And then there is our favourite part about this first model release, hidden monstrous features are tucked into every column that are revealed as you play around with the figure!

Files for this month are provided to active Drake and Ancient Dragon patrons through Google Drive during the release month. Once the models are available on MyMiniFactory, you will receive a reward link so you can add them to your MyMiniFactory library.

Printing notes

These mimics are intended to print support free, since removing supports is never fun. For the cleanest overhangs, you may still want to add light supports under the rear chest hinges.

Print upright so that the segments stand vertically

Material: PLA

Nozzle size: 0.4 mm

Layer height: 0.2 mm (finer layer heights are fine, just adjust top/bottom layers accordingly)

Top layers: 4 (0.8 mm)

Bottom layers: 3 (0.6 mm)

Walls: 2 (0.8 mm)

Infill: 10 - 20 percent gyroid (20% lightning infill will also work to save on filament cost but this will make the model much louder to play with)

No supports required under normal conditions

Multi material printing

Load the included .3MF file into your slicer to access pre set colour regions

You can keep our colour layout or reassign them to match your own palette

After printing, gently flex the columns to make sure any small fused spots break free and the segments can move.

Tier access and usage

Drake tier: Receives the Articulating Sliding Mimic Chest for personal use as part of the January pack.

Ancient Dragon tier: Receives the same files plus the right to sell physical 3D prints of this model under the merchant license terms in our Patreon introduction post.

No selling or sharing of STL files is permitted. Credit to Curations By Kira is required when selling physical prints, and merchants must have an active Ancient Dragon subscription.
