Just in time for February, here is a little something for your favourite dice goblin or TTRPG valentine.

This is our Mechanical Heart Dice Box, a heart shaped gear box that locks and unlocks with a sword shaped key. Turn the key to open the box, reveal a fun TTRPG-inspired candy heart message, then lift the insert to reveal the dice hidden underneath.

Inside the heart is a removable dice tray with:

Sections for a full dice set

Side compartments that can hold small minis or trinkets

We've made seven different heart shaped overlays for the dice tray with different messages to choose from (including a blank to create your own - SUPER easy in TinkerCAD)

The overlays also work great as coasters once the box is open on the table.

Best of all, the entire box itself is designed to print support-free! Only the sword key needs supports, and we are working on a support free variant of the key for a future update.

What is included

You receive:

Print-in-place Support-free Mechanical heart shaped box base and lid with integrated gear mechanism

Sword shaped key that locks and unlocks the box

Removable dice tray insert with space for dice and side sections for minis or trinkets

Seven heart shaped overlays with nerdy valentine style phrases plus blank hearts so you can customize your own messages (These have been prepared with raised-text for non-multi-colour printing as well as flush text for multi-colour printing with a perfectly flat surface)

Multi colour project files set up for AMS- or MMU-style printing

This is the first Curations By Kira model release for February for Drake and Ancient Dragon patrons.

Files for this month are provided to active Drake and Ancient Dragon patrons through Google Drive during the release month. Once the models are available on MyMiniFactory, you will receive a reward link so you can add them to your MyMiniFactory library.

Printing notes

The heart box and tray are designed to print support-free. Only the sword key needs supports at this time.

General FDM recommendations

Printer type: FDM

Orientation: Print the heart box and tray flat on the build plate

Material: PLA

Nozzle size: 0.4 mm

Layer height: around 0.2 mm

Infill: 15 to 25 percent gyroid or your preferred infill pattern

Supports

Heart box and tray: no supports required

Sword key: light supports under the cross-guard and hilt

We are testing a support free variant of the sword key and will share it in a future update once we are happy with how it prints.

Ironing settings for a smooth surface

To get a very smooth finish on the top of the heart box, you can enable ironing on top surfaces. These are the settings we used on a 0.4 mm nozzle with a Bambu Lab P1S:

Pattern: Rectilinear

Ironing speed: 60 mm per second

Flow: 30 percent

Ironing line spacing: 0.15 mm

Ironing inset: 0.21 mm

Ironing direction: 45 degrees

Feel free to tweak these to match your usual profiles.

Tier access and usage

Drake tier: Receives the full Mechanical Heart Dice Box for personal use as part of the February pack.

Ancient Dragon tier: Receives the same files plus the right to sell physical 3D prints of this model under the merchant license terms described in our Patreon introduction post.

No selling or sharing of STL files is permitted. Credit to Curations By Kira is required when selling physical prints, and merchants must have an active Ancient Dragon subscription.

Thank you again for supporting our Patreon and for all the enthusiasm around the poll results! We'll be back soon for the second model of February!

Hey! Do you guys have an email for troubleshooting? I've printed the box and top twice now (Bambu a1, using your Bambu profile, suggested settings) and everything slots in fine, hinges work, except the locking gear just falls out of its circle as soon as it comes off the print bed. Is there a step I should be doing or changes?

Curations By Kira

Aah I'm so sorry! There was some stringing I noticed on a previous build so tried to edit the internal socket for better printing and ended up widening the bottom accidentally! I've updated a v1.13 that should have this solved thank you for bringing this to our attention!
